Red Sox | Mookie Betts lands on DL

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:54:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts (concussion) was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Wednesday, July 29, after more tests confirmed he suffered a concussion Tuesday, July 28, according to manager John Farrell. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket and is starting Wednesday night. There is no timetable for Betts' return. Farrell said Bradley will be the team's everyday center fielder with Betts out. Bradley was hitting .305/.382/.472 in 71 games with Pawtucket, but he was just 4-for-30 (.133) in 14 games with Boston earlier this year.

Fantasy Tip: Concussions can be tricky, so stay tuned for more updates on when Betts might return. Hang onto him in all leagues in the meantime. Bradley has an opportunity to make noise for those outfield-needy teams in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He'll be a source of salary cap relief on FantasyScore with a cheap salary.

Red Sox | Mookie Betts sitting out

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:37:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts (concussion) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. was called up from the minors and is starting in center field and hitting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana.

Fantasy Tip: Betts could need to go on the seven-day concussion DL, so stay tuned. Bradley could be a short-term pickup in deeper leagues if Betts goes on the DL, and he could split time with Alejandro De Aza in center. Tonight against the southpaw Quintana, Bradley is a very unattractive FantasyScore pick.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley recalled

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 13:09:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket Wednesday, July 29, and will start in center field for the Red Sox against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley probably will receive several starts in center field while Mookie Betts is out of the lineup. He is hitting only .133 in limited playing time with Boston this season and is not a great option for fantasy owners.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino returns to team

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 14:30:04 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, July 3. The team also optioned OF Jackie Bradley Jr. to Class AAA Pawtucket. Victorino and OF Alejandro De Aza will share time in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has not played since the last week in May, so owners should want to see him play in a few games before considering him for their lineups. His value will also take a hit since he will be part of a platoon for the time being.

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 09:31:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. was called up from the minors Thursday, June 25, and he's starting in right field and hitting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) was hitless in 11 at-bats for Boston earlier this year, and he was hitting .322 (66-for-205) with four home runs and 16 RBI with Class AAA Pawtucket. Fri, 22 May 2015 12:40:40 -0700

Updating an earlier post, Boston Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo was recalled to the parent club on Friday, May 22. In a corresponding move OF Jackie Bradley Jr. was optioned to Class AAA Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo could have an explosive bat, but resist the temptation to ride it until you've seen the prospect play in a few games.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley Jr. on his way down?

Fri, 22 May 2015 08:19:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. could be demoted soon, in the opinion of The Providence Journal writer Brian MacPherson. MacPherson anticipates Boston will recall OF Rusney Castillo Friday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a fringe daily play and shouldn't be on mixed rosters. AL-only players can cut bait if he is indeed demoted.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley draws start Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 09:53:39 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. is starting in right field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Wednesday, May 13. OF Shane Victorino is sitting the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is making his second start of the season, and h'es 0-for-5 on the year after being called up over the weekend. Bradley makes for a very weak play against Gray, who has been really tough on lefty hitters in 2015.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino returning to lineup

Mon, 11 May 2015 09:13:19 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) will come off the disabled list and return to the starting lineup Monday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12, with the Red Sox facing two left-handed pitchers, according to manager John Farrell. "When Vic gets back to us, Vic's going to get left-handed starters, if not more," Farrell said. "But Jackie's arrival here gives us a premium defender, and we certainly like him against a lot of right-handed pitchers. We'll find the right matchups. I'm not going to say it's a strict platoon situation, by any means." Farrell also said he won't move OF Mookie Betts to right field to have OF Jackie Bradley Jr. play center field on days that they are both in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) should at least see semi-regular playing time in right field, and he could split time with Bradley or Daniel Nava. Coming off a DL stint and facing Oakland Athletics starter Scott Kazmir Monday isn't a time you should trust Victorino for your FantasyScore lineups.
