Diamondbacks | Jake Lamb out against Cubbies

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 09:43:10 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb is not in the lineup against Chicago Cubs left-handed SP Jon Lester Friday, Sept. 4. 2B Phil Gosselin is starting at the hot corner and is hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been a fixture in the D-backs lineup of late, but it doesn't mean he's suddenly one to own in fantasy leagues. He only has three career home runs and has only three hits in his first 13 at-bats for Arizona. Avoid him in daily contests.

Diamondbacks | Phil Gosselin stays at 2B

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 16:44:48 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Phil Gosselin is starting at second base for the second game of the team's doubleheader against Colorado Rockies SP Kyle Kendrick Tuesday, Sept. 1. Gosselin is batting seventh in the order.

Fantasy Tip: While Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) typically would be one to avoid on FantasyScore, he does have deep sleeper appeal after hitting a home run in Game 1 and while playing at Coors Field against one of the worst starters in baseball this year, who is also coming off the DL.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed sitting out

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 14:57:17 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Monday, Aug. 31. 2B Chris Owings will start at shortstop, while 2B Phil Gosselin will start at second base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return soon. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) recently returned from the disabled list and should not be a starting option at this point.

Braves | Bronson Arroyo acquired from ARI

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 11:36:36 -0700

The Atlanta Braves have acquired SP Bronson Arroyo and minor league P Touki Toussaint from the Arizona Diamondbacks, in exchange for INF Phil Gosselin.

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and is not expected to be activated from the disabled list before August. Toussaint, who is likely several years away from reaching the majors, was Arizona's first-round draft pick in 2014 and he features a mid-90s fastball and above-average curveball. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is currently on the disabled list with a fractured thumb but is expected to return to action in about a month.

Diamondbacks | Bronson Arroyo traded to ATL

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 11:35:51 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded SP Bronson Arroyo and minor league P Touki Toussaint to the Atlanta Braves, in exchange for INF Phil Gosselin.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a salary dump for Arizona, as Arroyo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will make $9.5 million this season and $11 million next year (or a $4.5 million buyout). Toussaint was the 16th overall pick in the 2014 draft and is several years away from reaching the majors. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a career .282 hitter through 70 major league games but is currently on the disabled list with a fractured thumb. He is expected to return to action by late July.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo sitting Sunday

Sun, 17 May 2015 07:31:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Alberto Callaspo is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 17, against the Miami Marlins. 2B Phil Gosselin will start at third base and hit second in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin (($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should receive some consideration due to his enviable position in the batting order and the fact that Atlanta goes up against the rusty Henderson Alvarez. Gosselin is 6-for-his-last-12, with two extra-base hits. Gosselin also has the ability to steal bases, making him worthy of GPP consideration on FantasyScore.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo sitting vs. Marlins

Fri, 15 May 2015 13:10:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Alberto Callaspo is not in the starting lineup against the Miami Marlins Friday, May 15. 2B Phil Gosselin is batting second and manning the hot corner Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Callaspo ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He failed to register a hit in three consecutive games and is currently mired in a 4-for-36 funk. Callaspo should be reserved to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he shows some life at the dish. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as a desperation flier for daily contests.

Braves | Phil Gosselin batting second

Fri, 15 May 2015 12:54:44 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Phil Gosselin is batting second and playing third base against the Miami Marlins Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a career .272 hitting over 162 career at-bats, and with a modest minor league track record (.706 career OPS), he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a desperation flier in daily contests. However, batting second in front of Freddie Freeman increases Gosselin's upside.

Braves | Jace Peterson sitting Friday

Fri, 08 May 2015 13:26:07 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 8. 2B Phil Gosselin is starting at second base and hitting seventh in the batting order against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) isn't worth your time at FantasyScore.

Braves | Jace Peterson not playing Tuesday

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 13:49:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, April 21, with 2B Phil Gosselin starting instead.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) looks like he is out due to the Mets starting Jon Niese. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is not worth the salary due to a small sample size and one hit in his last 10 at-bats.
