Sat, 25 Jun 2016 18:12:32 -0700

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos tied a franchise record, converting his 33rd straight save dating back to last season Saturday, June 25, against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: It is safe to say that Ramos has earned himself a long leash, and strong strikeout numbers further cement his status as a high-end fantasy closer.

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves Wednesday, June 22, to pick up his 23rd save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Ramos has allowed some baserunners during his outings but has not blown a save this season. He should be a starter in all leagues because he should continue to receive plenty of save chances.

Marlins | A.J. Ramos navigates through tough save

Tue, 31 May 2016 22:28:12 -0700

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos picked up his 16th save of the season Tuesday, May 31, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but it was anything but easy. Ramos loaded the bases in the ninth inning with nobody out, but was ultimately able to escape the jam and close it out. He ended up allowing one run on one hit and two walks, while striking out one.

Fantasy Tip: Ramos was not only fortunate to keep Miami in front, but also in keeping his own perfect record intact as well. In particular, Gregory Polanco was just a few feet from lacing a grand slam on a fly ball to deep center field. The 29-year-old has converted every one of his 16 save opportunities, though there have been times where he would get himself into trouble before escaping. Even so, he's clearly been an elite closer this season and is on pace for an All-Star berth.

Marlins | A.J. Ramos unscathed

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 23:52:45 -0700

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos nailed down his fourth save Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: He has yet to allow an earned run and has given up just two hits in seven frames. His five walks aren't great, but three of them came in his first outing. He has nine strikeouts in those seven innings, and he's a legit RP1 right now.

Marlins | A.J. Ramos makes spring debut

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 15:52:42 -0700

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos (calf) made his spring training debut Wednesday, March 16, and fired a perfect ninth inning against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: That's great news for the Marlins and his fantasy owners, as Ramos is fully set to resume his closing duties after Carter Capps (elbow) went down for the season. After years of exhibiting potential to close, Ramos was terrific in his first go-around with the job, saving 32 ballgames in 38 chances, while registering an outstanding 2.30 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. Furthermore, he also racked up 87 Ks in 70 1/3 innings pitched. He has a good chance of being an upper echelon closer in 2016.

Marlins | A.J. Ramos is ready

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 10:33:16 -0700

Miami Marlins RP A.J. Ramos (calf) had dealt with a sore calf early this spring, but he's now ready to pitch in Grapefruit League games. He's no longer on any medical lists.

Fantasy Tip: Ramos now doesn't have much competition for the closing job in 2016 after Carter Capps went down with a season-ending injury. Ramos can be dominant in the role, but his control and homer allowance can be issues, which make him more of a second or third fantasy stopper.

Marlins | Miami closer's job up for grabs

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 07:27:08 -0800

The Miami Marlins are expected to have an open competition for the closer job, with RP Carter Capps having an opportunity to win the job away from incumbent CL A.J. Ramos, according to general manager Michael Hill.

Fantasy Tip: Ramos went 2-4 with a 2.30 ERA and 32 saves in 71 games last season, while striking out 87 batters in 70 1/3 innings, and should still be considered the favorite to close games for the Fish. Capps went 1-0 with a 1.16 ERA in 30 appearances in 2015, with 58 strikeouts in 31 innings. Despite the eye-popping K/9 rate, Capps has never saved a game at the major league level. Both pitchers should be monitored throughout spring training, especially in NL-only leagues. The Marlins had also expressed interest in free-agent RP Fernando Rodney, who has prior closing experience, before he signed with the San Diego Padres.
