Mariners | Seattle sitting three starters

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 12:26:44 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nori Aoki, OF Seth Smith and 1B Adam Lind are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Tuesday, July 26. OF Franklin Gutierrez will start in left field and is batting second. 1B Dae-ho Lee will start at first base and is batting fifth. OF Nelson Cruz is starting in right field because the Mariners are not allowed to use a designated hitter in National League stadiums.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez and Lee are in the starting lineup because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Gutierrez is hitting .273 with seven home runs and 21 RBI against lefties this season and can be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Lee has also posted solid numbers against left-handed pitchers in 2016 but has gone hitless in his last six games, which makes him a risky option. Cruz should start in all fantasy leagues.

Mariners | Nori Aoki, Mike Zunino starting

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 10:33:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nori Aoki is starting in left field and hitting leadoff against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Wednesday, July 20, and C Mike Zunino starts behind the dish and is batting eighth. C Chris Iannetta and 1B Dae-ho Lee will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Aoki and Zunino were just recalled from the minors before the game as the M's look to shake up their offense. Aoki should receive decent playing time against right-handers, but his mild contributions across all categories mainly make him an AL-only depth option. Zunino was showing nice improvement at the dish in the minors this year and cranked two homers in seven at-bats earlier this month when he came up. He could push Iannetta for decent playing time and is worth a look in two-catcher and AL-only formats.
