Cubs | Jorge Soler starting against the Dodgers

Mon, 30 May 2016 12:41:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler is starting in left field and batting fifth against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood Monday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Soler has been showing signs of heating up at the dish with an active 9-for-28 run, including eight runs, three home runs, six RBI and a .714 slugging percentage. The playing time is a little too inconsistent currently to make Soler an option in all fantasy leagues, but if he keeps hitting, he'll garner more playing time and more value.

Cubs | Jorge Soler draws another start

Sat, 21 May 2016 13:44:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler is in the starting lineup Saturday, May 21, against San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain, making his third straight start in left field and will bat fifth. 2B Ben Zobrist will shift from his usual spot at second base to right field to replace injured OF Jason Heyward and hit fourth. Javier Baez will move over from third to replace Zobrist at the keystone and bat sixth.

Fantasy Tip: The only question in regards to the Cubs' lineup following Heyward's injury was whether Kris Bryant or Zobrist would move to the outfield. Today, it is Zobrist, who is getting rewarded with a shot at the cleanup spot after hitting safely in 16 of his last 17 games. Soler has endured a miserable season so far (.200), although he has shown signs of life over the last three games. Baez is hitless in his last 15 at-bats. As a result, only Zobrist should be trusted of this bunch in most fantasy lineups until further notice.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella starting at third base

Wed, 18 May 2016 13:32:30 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Tommy La Stella is starting at third base and batting sixth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Wednesday, May 18. OF Jorge Soler and INF Javier Baez are not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: The Cubs are providing La Stella, Baez and Soler with semi-regular at-bats through mixing and matching their lineups. All three are viable depth options in deep mixed leagues with Baez likely owning the most upside. For Wednesday, view La Stella as a low-priced target in daily contests. He has a .327/.403/.582 slash line with 10 runs and six RBI through 62 plate appearances.

Cubs | Javier Baez at 3B again

Tue, 17 May 2016 13:34:47 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B/OF Javier Baez is starting at third base and is hitting seventh against Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson Tuesday, May 17. 3B Kris Bryant is playing left field, while OF Jorge Soler is relegated to the bench.

Fantasy Tip: With Soler ice cold at the plate, Baez has been a lineup regular recently. Baez is hitting at a .277 clip with two home runs and five RBI in 65 at-bats, and he should be owned in most leagues for his upside in the power and speed departments. Consider him a fine daily commodity tonight, too.

Cubs | Chicago brass counting on Jorge Soler

Fri, 13 May 2016 12:05:39 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler will continue to receive plenty of at-bats, and manager Joe Maddon and president of baseball operations Theo Epstein both believe Soler will have a big impact this season.

"There will be ebbs and flows to the season where he sits a few games in a row but that doesn't mean anyone has given up on him," Epstein said. "Over time he's going to get plenty of at-bats, he's going to get hot and he's going to carry us."

Fantasy Tip: As it stands, Soler should be benched outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and he might not even warrant a roster spot in shallower formats. However, Soler has shown monster power, and there is plenty of upside. So, with the endorsement from Maddon and Epstein, expect Soler to be given a long leash to work out of his current struggles.
