Rangers | Jake Diekman to DL

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 10:28:36 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Jake Diekman (finger) was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 6, with a cut on his left index finger. Diekman was injured after he was cut on a piece of glass at home.

Fantasy Tip: Tony Barnette will likely take over in the eighth inning. He has six wins, a 2.43 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP, but he has fanned just 29 in 40 2/3 innings. His fantasy appeal outside of AL-only leagues is pretty minimal.

Rangers | Jake Diekman picks up a save

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 16:20:27 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Jake Diekman recorded the save Saturday, June 18, instead of RP Sam Dyson.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson only threw 10 pitches Friday night and had a day off Thursday. He could have been rested because he pitched five times since last Saturday. His job shouldn't be in danger, but look to see if anything comes out about an ailment.

Rangers | Jake Diekman nabs save

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 16:07:34 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Jake Diekman picked up his first save of the season Thursday, June 9, against the Houston Astros. He recorded a scoreless ninth inning, only issuing one walk.

Fantasy Tip: Sam Dyson has worked a lot lately for the Rangers, hence why he was unavailable the past two contests. Diekman has developed into a fine late-inning arm for the Texas bullpen, and apparently is one of the fill-in options to close whenever Dyson is not involved.

Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.

Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

Phillies | Mike Adams feeling good

Thu, 23 Jan 2014 15:10:55 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies RP Mike Adams (shoulder, hernia) is feeling good after shoulder surgery and thinks he can be ready for Opening Day March 31. "But at the same time I'm going to try not to set opening day as my final date. I don't want to be ready Opening Day then all of a sudden I'm back on the disabled list in July or August or even sooner," Adams said. He also had hernia surgery after the 2013 season, but he said his shoulder was the main concern. He's currently throwing long toss at 100 feet and will resume bullpens in mid-February. Adams thinks he'll need around 10 spring outings in order to be ready. The Phillies may choose to go the cautious route and hold him back for a few weeks in the regular season. RPs Antonio Bastardo and Jake Diekman can also work the eighth inning.

Phillies | Bullpen competition beginning

Thu, 07 Mar 2013 14:43:57 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said the bullpen competition is about to heat up. RP Phillippe Aumont is really the only pitcher that may have jumped ahead of the competition, with RPs Jeremy Horst, Raul Valdes, Justin De Fratus, Michael Stutes and Jake Diekman battling for the other two spots. Ps Tyler Cloyd (forearm) and B.J. Rosenberg (triceps) threw bullpens Thursday, March 7, and are close to game action.
