Orioles | Wei-Yen Chen hurls quality start

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 19:43:53 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings against the Cleveland Indians Friday, June 26, with two walks and five strikeouts. However, he ended up with a no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) was making his first start following a brief stint in the minors due to arm fatigue. He has been the victim of poor run support this season and is only 3-4 despite posting a 2.90 ERA over 87 innings.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen rejoining rotation Friday

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:32:56 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen will rejoin the starting rotation and face the Cleveland Indians Friday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) last made a start for the O's June 15, and he hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in his three June starts. However, you should be cautious using him on FantasyScore against the Tribe Friday, as they've held their own against southpaws this year (ranked 10th with a .724 OPS).

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen has big night

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 22:08:27 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen tied a career-high by pitching eight innings in a win Monday, June 15, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He tied a season high with nine strikeouts, too.

Fantasy Tip: Chen still sits under .500 with his overall record, but he has a 2.89 ERA over 81 innings while issuing two or fewer walks in 10 consecutive starts. At $5,500 (or 11.0% of cap) he is a strong value in FantasyScore.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen Ks season high

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 17:02:49 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen struck out a season high nine hitters Thursday, June 4, against the Houston Astros. Chen allowed five hits and two runs in six and one-third innings.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) held his opponent to fewer than three earned runs for the first time in four starts. Chen is next scheduled for June 10, against the Boston Red Sox. With that game taking place in the hitter-friendly confines of Camden Yards, Chen should be avoided on FantasyScore.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen's injury not arm-related

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:19:39 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen's (undisclosed) soreness was not in his pitching arm, and he was fine after his workout Thursday, May 28, according to manager Buck Showalter.

Fantasy Tip: Just because the arm injury wasn't arm related doesn't enter Chen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) into safe territory for FantasyScore players. At best, Chen is a high-risk source of cap relief. His 4.35 FIP is much higher than his 3.13 ERA, so season-long owners should expect a few hiccups ahead.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen starting Saturday

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:09:31 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen (undisclosed) will start against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has been dealing with undisclosed soreness, and while it may not be arm related, it is a concern. FantasyScore players should view Chen as a high-risk, high-reward option for contests Sunday, and it isn't out of the question to bench him in seasonal formats. For the season, Chen has a 3.13 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 7.2 K/9. However, his 4.35 FIP suggests Chen could have rougher waters ahead.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen could be pushed back

Thu, 28 May 2015 10:33:41 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen (undisclosed) could have his next start pushed back while dealing with undisclosed soreness. The team will wait to see if he makes it through a bullpen session Thursday, May 28, before committing to him.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is currently lined up to start against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday. He's allowed seven earned runs in his last 12 innings, and it'd be wise to avoid him at FantasyScore this weekend if he makes the start.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen takes loss

Wed, 20 May 2015 19:07:59 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen suffered his third loss of the season Wednesday, May 20, against the Seattle Mariners. Chen allowed four runs and eight hits over seven innings. It was the first time in eight starts this season Chen allowed more than three runs.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been benefiting from an opponent BABIP of just .222 through 42 and two-third innings. Chen's 4.57 xFIP signals more regression on the way and FantasyScore owners will need to proceed with severe caution when considering using Chen in lineups.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen has been tough on Tampa

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 14:26:02 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen is 4-0 with a 1.67 ERA in his career against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) isn't a terrible midrange starting pitching option for daily lineups Tuesday. The Rays are a team that isn't expected to be very feared on offense in 2015.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen starting Tuesday

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 04:28:46 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen will start Tuesday, April 7, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) only threw 68 pitches in his final spring start, and the buzz is he could be on a pitch count in this outing. He was 1-1 with a 3.67 ERA in five starts against Tampa Bay last season, and Chen was 8-4 on the road. Chen should perform well in this outing, making him a safe bet.
