Yankees | Mason Williams to DL

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 08:11:07 -0700

New York Yankees OF Mason Williams (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, June 21.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) was hitting .286 with a respectable 13.6% strikeout rate prior to the injury. In his absence, OF Chris Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) should get the majority of the playing time as the third outfielder.

Yankees | Chris Young starting Saturday

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 14:14:32 -0700

New York Yankees OF Chris Young will make the start in left field and hit ninth in the order Saturday, June 20, against the Detroit Tigers and RHP Alfredo Simon. OF Mason Williams (shoulder) is out of the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has just one home run since May 2, as his regression continues following his strong start. Young can be used as a GPP option on FantasyScore when he's hitting higher in the order against a lefty, but he can be faded while hitting ninth against a right-hander.

Yankees | Mason Williams injures shoulder

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 18:36:11 -0700

New York Yankees OF Mason Williams (shoulder) appeared to jam his right shoulder while sliding back to first base in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday, June 19, against the Detroit Tigers. He remained in the game and came around to score but was replaced defensively by OF Chris Young in the top of the sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has gone 6-for-21 with a home run and three RBIs since being called up last week. If he misses a significant amount of time, expect Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) to see regular playing time in center field for a team that already has OFs Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) and Slade Heathcott (quadriceps) on the disabled list.

Yankees | Mason Williams will not start

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 14:28:16 -0700

New York Yankees OF Mason Williams is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP David Phelps Tuesday, June 16. OF Brett Gardner will start in center field and is batting first, while OF Chris Young will start in left field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is probably receiving a day off after playing in the last several games. Gardner ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has picked up at least one hit in seven of his last nine games and could be a solid option on FantasyScore. Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is hitting. 222 in June and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Mason Williams starting again

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 13:32:21 -0700

New York Yankees OF Mason Williams will make his second consecutive start Saturday, June 13, against the Baltimore Orioles. Mason is again filling in for OF Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) in center field, and he'll hit ninth in the lineup against RHP Bud Norris.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will be the Yankees starter in center field for however long Ellsbury is shelved, and he went 1-for-2 with a home run and a strikeout in his debut Friday. AL-only owners shouldn't be misled by the impressive debut, as Williams hadn't hit a single home run in 235 minor league plate appearances prior to his call up.

New York Yankees OF Mason Williams will be the starting center fielder against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez Friday, June 12, and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Yankees | Yanks call up Mason Williams

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 10:51:36 -0700

New York Yankees OF Mason Williams was called up to the majors to make his major league debut Thursday, June 11. Williams was hitting .318 in 54 minor league games this year between Class AA and Class AAA this year, and he's known to be excellent on defense. Williams has very little power, but he did have 11 stolen bases in the minors. He hit just .223 at Class AA last season.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will be cheaply priced on FantasyScore as a post-hype prospect, and he's likely to platoon in left field with Chris Young while Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) continues to heal. Williams hits left-handed, meaning he should be on the strong side of the platoon if Joe Girardi has confidence playing him often. He's a deep sleeper pick on FantasyScore with speed upside, and he's worth a short-term investment in AL-only leagues if you're in need of an outfielder.

Yankees | Farm system not what it once was

Wed, 05 Feb 2014 20:02:21 -0800

The New York Yankees minor league system ranks 20th of out 30 teams, according to ESPN's Keith Law, and among his Top 100 prospect, the Yankees have just three players. C Gary Sanchez is ranked 68th, OF Tyler Austin is ranked 85th and OF Mason Williams is ranked 87th. None of the players have excelled above the Double-A level, and are so far from the major league level, that the team spent nearly $300 million on free agents.
