Broncos | Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman out

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 13:47:07 -0800

Denver Broncos RBs Montee Ball (groin) and Ronnie Hillman (foot) did not practice Friday, Nov. 21, and are ruled out for Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Ball and Hillman are likely a week or two away from returning to action. For the time being, C.J. Anderson ($5,800) will lead the way in the backfield. The Miami Dolphins aren't the best matcup for Anderson, but thankfully he catches a lot of passes, and FantasyScore rewards a point per grab.

Broncos | Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman out again

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 13:12:12 -0800

Denver Broncos RBs Montee Ball (groin) and Ronnie Hillman (foot) both did not practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Neither player will play this weekend against the Miami Dolphins, leaving C.J. Anderson ($5,800) to the main running back duties again. Anderson faces a stiff test against the Dolphins defensive front, but he may be worth a lineup spot because of his ability to catch passes, and FantasyScore rewards points per catch.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman, Montee Ball sitting

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 10:56:26 -0800

Denver Broncos RBs Ronnie Hillman (foot) and Montee Ball (groin) are not participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Neither running back is expected to play in Week 12, so C.J. Anderson should continue to receive most of the work at running back. Anderson costs $5,800 on FantasyScore and could be a starting option for owners.

Broncos | Montee Ball to miss 2-3 weeks

Mon, 17 Nov 2014 14:14:49 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) will miss the next two to three weeks after aggravating his groin injury in Week 11, according to two league sources. RB Ronnie Hillman (foot) is expected to miss another game in Week 12 with his foot ailment.

Fantasy Tip: For at least another week, C.J. Anderson will be the primary ball carrier for the Broncos. He's a nice option again in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins, especially in PPR leagues like FantasyScore. Ball probably won't be fully healthy for the rest of the season. Dropping him in shallow leagues is understandable.

Broncos | Montee Ball expects to miss time

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 17:35:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) said Sunday, Nov. 16, that he didn't feel right after the first few plays of the Week 11 game against the St. Louis Rams. He said it is "hard to tell" how much time he will miss.

Fantasy Tip: C.J. Anderson will be the biggest beneficiary of Ball's absence, if he indeed is forced to miss additional time and Ronnie Hillman remains sidelined, too.

Broncos | Montee Ball leaves again

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 11:20:28 -0800

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) left the team's Week 11 game for a second time because of a groin injury. He is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Ball went back into the game, but it appears he aggravated his groin injury more severely this time. Ball could miss more playing time, which likely would give C.J. Anderson a bigger role in the offense. Anderson could be a weekly starting option until Ball and Ronnie Hillman are healthy.

Broncos | Montee Ball hurt, probable to return

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 10:49:27 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) left the team's Week 11 game early because of a groin injury but is considered probable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Ball likely aggravated his groin injury, but it does not look like it is serious. Ball was being eased back into the offense after missing time and probably will be limited because of the injury. Owners may want to keep Ball on the bench until he is healthier.

Broncos | C.J. Anderson will start

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 07:37:47 -0800

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson will be the starting running back in the team's Week 11 game. RB Montee Ball will be the No. 2 running back.

Fantasy Tip: Anderson played well in Week 10, rushing for 90 yards, and probably will receive a majority of the carries in Week 11. Anderson costs $5,300 on FantasyScore and could be a good No. 2 running back or flex option. Ball costs $4,600 but may not be a great option to use, because he may see limited work during the game.

Broncos | Montee Ball listed as probable

Fri, 14 Nov 2014 12:30:22 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 14, and is listed as probable for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Ball likely will be active for the game, but probably will be eased back into the offense since he has missed several games. Ball has a price tag of $4,600, but owners should consider looking for a better option to use.

Broncos | Montee Ball fully practices

Thu, 13 Nov 2014 15:44:07 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) had a full practice Thursday, Nov. 13, and is expected to return this week against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Ball will probably be eased in coming back from an extended absence. C.J. Anderson should see the majority of playing time among Broncos' running backs in Week 11.

Broncos | Montee Ball fully practices

Wed, 12 Nov 2014 14:12:38 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Ball will likely be eased back into game action this week, with C.J. Anderson getting a majority of the work. That makes Ball a risky FantasyScore play this weekend.

Broncos | Montee Ball hopeful of returning

Mon, 10 Nov 2014 14:47:47 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is hopeful of putting in a full week of full practice, and he is poised to return to the lineup in Week 11 against the St. Louis Rams after missing five games. Ball wants to do more than just return, though; "to try and get my old job back." "It's who's healthy, No. 1 first and foremost. We've been evaluating that week to week ... we'll evaluate it again come Wednesday," head coach John Fox said. "Doesn't matter how I feel, it's how they feel ... Time heals, we'll see how they feel come Wednesday."

Fantasy Tip: C.J. Anderson, who had a big Week 10, should see a lead-back role against the Rams with Ball being eased in. That makes Ball a risky option for your FantasyScore lineups this weekend.

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 09:51:56 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) will not play in the team's Week 10 game but may have a chance to be ready for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Ronnie Hillman likely will continue to receive most of the work at running back with Juwan Thompson also receive some snaps. Hillman costs $6,400 on FantasyScore and should be a solid starting option against the Oakland Raiders.

Broncos | Montee Ball questionable against Raiders

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 13:58:28 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) was limited in practice for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 7, and is questionable for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: With Denver's game coming Sunday afternoon, Ball should be avoided in all fantasy football lineups. If he does play, it'll likely be in a complementary role to Ronnie Hillman, who has taken the No. 1 running back duties and run with them.

Broncos | Montee Ball limited again

Thu, 06 Nov 2014 15:09:30 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Ball's availability for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders remains unknown, and he's likely to be questionable. However, even if he is active, Hillman should remain the go-to running back in Denver's backfield. Ball isn't a strong FantasyScore option for $3,600.

Broncos | Montee Ball limited Wednesday

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 14:44:02 -0800

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos will likely ease Ball back in, and it's unknown if he'll even be able to return in Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders. For now, don't plan on using him at FantasyScore for a price of $3,600.

Broncos | Montee Ball drops weight

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 13:54:57 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) spent his down time the past several weeks changing his diet, and he dropped from 224 pounds to 212 pounds. "This is where I was in college. I am more comfortable," Ball said.

Fantasy Tip: Ball is back at practice this week, but that doesn't mean he will return in Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders. The Broncos are likely to ease him back in, especially since Ronnie Hillman has run with the lead-back role. Ball may not even have much of a role behind Hillman when he returns, either. Stay patient if you own him in deeper leagues, but don't plan on using him anytime soon at FantasyScore.

Broncos | Montee Ball on the field

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 10:45:20 -0800

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Ball appears to have a chance to play in Week 10, but his role in the offense is not known at this point. Ronnie Hillman likely will continue to receive work even when Ball returns. Ball costs $3,600 on FantasyScore, but probably should only be considered a weak flex option until his role is more defined.

Fri, 31 Oct 2014 15:01:52 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not practice Friday, Oct. 31, and has been ruled out for Week 9 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Ronnie Hillman ($5,500) will continue to carry the load in Denver's backfield, and he could once again return a nice profit at FantasyScore against the Patriots.

Thu, 30 Oct 2014 15:16:06 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) remained out of practice for the second day this week Thursday, Oct. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Ball won't return this weekend and could be several weeks away from coming back. Ronnie Hillman ($5,500) continues to run well in Ball's absence, and he remains a fine FantasyScore play in this potent offense.

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) remained out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Ball won't be back this week, and his value will surely take a hit when he returns thanks to Ronnie Hillman's success in his absence.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman continues to impress

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 10:25:20 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman continues to run with confidence in the absence of RB Montee Ball (groin), and Ball will likely find it hard to win his starting job back when he's healthy. He showed impressive footwork and showed breakaway speed in the team's Week 8 win over the San Diego Chargers Thursday, Oct. 23, and he could have easily finished with two touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Hillman is quickly becoming a must-start in all fantasy leagues in this high-powered offense. It was frustrating to see Juwan Thompson vulture two goal-line touchdowns from Hillman, but that shouldn't deter you from starting Hillman in the future.

Broncos | Montee Ball out again Tuesday

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 14:31:22 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) was not at practice for the second straight day Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Ball won't be available on the short week against the San Diego Chargers. Ronnie Hillman has really stepped up in his absence. He's still relatively cheap enough at FantasyScore ($5,500; 11.0% of cap) to turn a profit.

Broncos | Montee Ball remains out

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 13:55:01 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not practice again Monday, Oct. 20. The Broncos didn't actually practice, so Ball's designation is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Ball is likely at least another week away from being able to return to the team. The rise of Ronnie Hillman in his absence, though, means Ball may not have much of a role when he returns. You shouldn't drop him in standard leagues, but be prepared for him to be no more than a flex option in the second half.

Broncos | Montee Ball unlikely to regain role

Sat, 18 Oct 2014 13:38:25 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) will have a difficult time regaining the featured-back role this season after his injury. It's beat writer Mike Klis' opinion that Ball never fully recovered from his appendectomy, which could have been a precursor to his groin injury.

Fantasy Tip: Ronnie Hillman ($5,000; 10% of your cap) appears to have been a waiver-wire gem and makes a great RB2 on FantasyScore this week. Juwan Thompson ($3,000; 6%) is expected to be involved, but he probably won't be much of a factor this week.

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 15:50:02 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Ball is not expected to play again in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday night. Ronnie Hillman ($5,000; 10.0% of cap) remains the lead back in Ball's absence, but he'll face a stiff run defense in the Niners this weekend. He could wind up being a bust after a 100-yard rushing effort last week.

Broncos | Committee to replace Montee Ball?

Sat, 11 Oct 2014 17:43:24 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman, RB C.J. Anderson and RB Juwan Thompson (knee) will all be leaned on while RB Montee Ball (groin) is out with a groin injury, according to head coach John Fox. Anderson said he feels that the back that has the hot hand will receive a majority of the carries.

Fantasy Tip: All three backs have a tough matchup in Week 6 with the Broncos facing the sixth-ranked rush defense of the New York Jets. Fantasy owners may be better served waiting to see how the carries are divided Sunday and then trying to find value in the Denver backfield in the coming weeks.

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 14:43:57 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and has been ruled out for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Ball probably will miss another week or two because of his groin injury. Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson are expected to handle the running back duties. Hillman costs $5,000 on FantasyScore and probably is the better option for fantasy owners.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman the guy

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 07:40:17 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman will serve as the lead running back in RB Montee Ball's (groin) absence. "Ronnie has played at different times, in different amounts, but when you're the starting back and running out there in pregame warm-ups as a starting back, it's a different hat that you wear," said QB Peyton Manning. "There's no question he has a burst that is pretty unique when he gets the ball in his hands. It's our job to give him space."

Fantasy Tip: This was all but confirmed, but there was also word that he would be in a timeshare. Hillman ($4,000; 8% of your cap) has a tough matchup against the New York Jets this week, and C.J. Anderson and Juwan Thompson should see time. However, Hillman is a great flex option on FantasyScore.

Broncos | Montee Ball sits out Wednesday

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 13:18:53 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Ball will miss up to three games with a fairly serious groin injury. You can forget about him at FantasyScore for at least a few weeks. Ronnie Hillman ($5,000) should see the majority of touches against the New York Jets, and is a smart play.

Broncos | Montee Ball likely out three games

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 07:08:13 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is likely to miss the next three games because the team plays those three games in a span of 12 days.

Fantasy Tip: Ronnie Hillman ($5,000; 10% of your cap) has a tough matchup against the New York Jets this week, but he's a decent flex option in this offense.

Broncos | Montee Ball to miss a few weeks

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 13:40:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is expected to miss a couple weeks because of the groin injury he suffered in Week 5, but will not need to undergo surgery, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Ronnie Hillman probably will receive most of the carries while Ball is out and has the chance to be a No. 2 running back for owners. C.J. Anderson and Juwan Thompson could also receive some carries but likely will not be more than flex options in deeper leagues.

Broncos | Montee Ball has major injury?

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 13:04:30 -0700

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is expected to be out for a significant amount of time after suffering a groin injury in the team's Week 5 game, according to a team source. In his absence, RB Ronnie Hillman will step into the lead running back role, with RBs Juwan Thompson and C.J. Anderson also seeing action.

Fantasy Tip: For those that own Ball, be prepared to go without him for a while. In the meantime, run to the waiver wire and immediately add Hillman, who looked much better than Ball has all year in Sunday's win. Thompson is worth a look, too, if the team continues to use him in goal-line situations.

Broncos | Montee Ball working on run game

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 19:33:52 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball is averaging 3.4 yards per carry this season, and the team is averaging almost 42 fewer rushing yards per game than a year ago. Ball said Monday, Sept. 22, that the team will focus on fixing the run game heading into the bye week. "Right now, we need a lot of work on it," Ball said. "It starts up front, starts with the tight ends, and with the running backs too. Collectively, we all need to sit down and focus on it, and I believe we will."

Fantasy Tip: Peyton Manning and the Denver passing attack have remained stout this season so it seems like only a matter of time before Ball starts to put up some big numbers. However, the Broncos return to action in Week 5 against an Arizona team that has stuffed the run this season so any improvements that Ball and company make in the off week may not pay immediate dividends.

Broncos | Montee Ball fighting for yards

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 08:24:52 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball rushed for 69 yards in the team's Week 1 game, but 55 of those yards came after contact.

Fantasy Tip: Ball is a part of an explosive offense and will continue to get the chance to post solid stats each week. Ball should be in the starting lineup in most leagues because of his matchup and could be a fine addition on FantasyScore at $7,800.

Broncos | Montee Ball improving

Wed, 20 Aug 2014 19:27:37 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (appendix) continues to do more work in practice each day, but most of his work continues to be outside of the team structure. However, he was wearing pads and working individually with QB Peyton Manning Wednesday, Aug. 20, and his workload is scheduled to increase. Ball might be ready to get some action in the preseason finale.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should be cautiously optimistic that Ball will be available for Week 1, but be sure to have plenty of depth on hand in case he isn't ready to answer the bell for the opener. Ronnie Hillman would be a great play in Week 1 if Ball is out or suffers some sort of setback.
