Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno will compete with RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas for the starting running back job during training camp.
Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:10:25 -0700
The Miami Dolphins agreed to terms with RB Knowshon Moreno (Broncos) on a one-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Fantasy Tip: Moreno will likely see significant regression this year, and is likely to split time with Lamar Miller in the backfield. He could even see third-down duty. Moreno is more of No. 3 or flex fantasy football running back with the move to a less explosive offense. Moreno has slightly more value in PPR leagues.
As a result of this move, it means RB Montee Ball has some upside as an RB2 since he'll be expected to become the main back for the Denver Broncos.
Wed, 26 Mar 2014 13:29:23 -0700
Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team wants RB Lamar Miller to play more consistently and be able to break more tackles.
Fantasy Tip: The team reportedly has been looking to add a running back in free agency, which would hurt Miller's value. Owners could consider Miller as an occasional matchup play depending on how the team uses him in 2014.
Sun, 09 Feb 2014 08:57:03 -0800
The Miami Dolphins could add a running back this offseason, although the team is happy with both RB Lamar Miller and RB Daniel Thomas. "They're a good complement to each other, and we like Miller's speed and explosiveness," the Dolphins staffer said. "Miller has the higher ceiling, but you wish he ran with a more physical [style]. And both have to improve as blockers."
Mon, 20 Jan 2014 13:39:42 -0800
The Miami Dolphins may look to add a running back in free agency or the draft because there is a feeling within the organization that RB Lamar Miller is not the answer at running back.
Mon, 23 Dec 2013 18:09:36 -0800
Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was defending the fact that the team ran just three times in the entire second half in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills. "I just did not feel at any point of those 12 carries our longest run was three yards," Sherman said Monday, Dec. 23. "We really haven't had many explosive runs this year which is not good, we need to continue to build towards that. A lack of productivity in the run game caused me to veer off into another direction."
Fantasy Tip: Lamar Miller had just three totes for eight yards, while Daniel Thomas averaged less than a yard per carry, rushing for six yards on nine runs. Basically, you shouldn't be relying on either rusher, unless it's a deep league, if your championship contest is in Week 17. The New York Jets have been good against the run this year.
Mon, 16 Dec 2013 07:28:09 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller played 38 offensive snaps in Week 15, and RB Daniel Thomas played on 18 snaps.
Fri, 13 Dec 2013 16:21:05 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 13, and is listed as probable for Week 15.
Fantasy Tip: Owners can consider keeping Miller on the bench this week because it is not a great matchup and RB Daniel Thomas is running well at this time.
Thu, 12 Dec 2013 16:00:47 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 12.
Wed, 11 Dec 2013 18:58:35 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) was listed as a full participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Fantasy Tip: The Patriots actually rank dead-last in the AFC, and 31st in the NFL, against the run, so Miller could be a sneaky low-end RB2 or sleeper flex fantasy play this weekend barring any setbacks.
Tue, 10 Dec 2013 10:25:31 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) is participating in practice Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Sun, 08 Dec 2013 19:14:21 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (concussion) suffered a concussion in the Week 14 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. RB Daniel Thomas came on and posted 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
Fantasy Tip: If Miller is forced to miss time, Thomas could re-emerge as a useful low-end RB2 or flex fantasy play going forward.
Fri, 06 Dec 2013 14:19:46 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (pectoral) fully participate in practice Friday, Dec. 6, and is listed as probable for Week 14.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Miller will be able to play this week and should be considered a solid No. 2 running back for most fantasy teams.
Thu, 05 Dec 2013 15:57:10 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (pectoral) was limited in practice again Thursday, Dec. 5.
Fantasy Tip: Miller doesn't really have much competition for touches with Daniel Thomas (ankle) still beat up. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been easy to run at times this year, too. Miller isn't the most appealing RB2, but he should be serviceable this weekend.
Mon, 11 Nov 2013 20:57:10 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller 'led' the team's running backs with two rushing yards on seven carries in the Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while RB Daniel Thomas ran four times for minus-2 yards. Miller also had nine yards on two receptions, while Thomas did not have a catch.
Fantasy Tip: It was a shockingly bad performance by the Miami rushing offense, which managed just two rushing yards against the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. Miller is only worth using as a flex fantasy option in the deepest of leagues right now, and Thomas can be dropped if you can find a more productive option. Check out Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Brian Leonard or Bobby Rainey, for example.
Wed, 06 Nov 2013 07:41:07 -0800
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is tied for second in the NFL with a 4.8 yards-per-carry average, among rushers with more than 50 carries.
Tue, 05 Nov 2013 10:02:31 -0800
Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said RB Lamar Miller could be given more work after his recent production. Miller is only averaging 11 carries per game through nine weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Miller looked solid in his effort against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9 Thursday night. If Sherman holds true to his word, Miller's stock is rising at the expense of Daniel Thomas.
Mon, 21 Oct 2013 10:36:23 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is still the team's starting running back, according to head coach Joe Philbin.
Mon, 30 Sep 2013 21:21:28 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller had 11 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Sept. 30. He also added a catch for six yards.
Fantasy Tip: Miller wasn't great, but he was good. He has 62 or more rushing yards in three consecutive games, finding the end zone in two of the past three outings. He remains a decent RB2/3 or flex fantasy play heading into Week 5.
Tue, 17 Sep 2013 20:14:26 -0700
Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin reiterated Tuesday, Sept. 17, that the team wants to keep the playing time comparable between RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas, despite Miller having had a more productive game in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. Philbin said unless "one guy is breaking tackles left and right and taking the ball a long way, and the other guy is not being productive," that this plan will continue.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should hang tight, as it might only be a handful of games like Week 2 which propel Miller into more of a lead role, and Thomas to a traditional backup job.
Mon, 16 Sep 2013 17:15:08 -0700
Miami Dolphins RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas each allowed a sack in the Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts. While offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said Monday, Sept. 16, that they have "improved (but) it still has a ways to go" and is not where it needs to be.
Mon, 09 Sep 2013 08:52:05 -0700
Miami Dolphins RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas split the snaps in Week 1. Miller had 36, and Thomas had 32.
Sun, 08 Sep 2013 13:31:48 -0700

Mon, 02 Sep 2013 16:07:32 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is listed as the starting running back for the team's Week 1 game.
Wed, 21 Aug 2013 13:49:55 -0700
The Miami Dolphins are not naming a starting running back between RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas just two weeks from Week 1. Both Miller and Thomas took first-team snaps during 11-on-11 drills Wednesday, Aug. 21, and Miller had nine snaps with the first-team offense Monday, Aug. 19. Thomas hasn't started a game in the preseason but got 12 snaps Monday and is pushing for the starting job. "They're both very young. They don't have a lot of snaps in them just yet. But they both have a chance to be good running backs in this league and see how far they can go. I'd rather have two good ones than one, put it that way." Miller has failed to separate himself from Thomas and prove he deserves the job. Miller fumbled in the preseason opener and dropped a crucial third-down pass last weekend.
Fantasy Tip: It's disappointing to see that Miller has yet to separate himself from Thomas, who has been injury-prone and has had fumblitis in his young career. Miller was going as a No. 2 RB earlier this summer. That's quickly changing since he's not even a lock now to be the lead back. Both running backs are probably sketchy RB3s at this current juncture.
Wed, 14 Aug 2013 17:33:49 -0700
The Miami Dolphins have used an empty backfield setup with five players lined up as receivers, including WRs Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline, RB Lamar Miller, TE Dustin Keller and either WR Brandon Gibson or TE Charles Clay. The team even practiced with that grouping in goal line situations. "That surprised me and I'm on the team," Wallace said. "If we can do that, we'll keep catching teams off guard and get a lot of mismatches we want."
Wed, 14 Aug 2013 17:28:09 -0700
Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland praised RB Lamar Miller in a radio interview Wednesday, April 14, but also indicated the battle for the starting job is far from over. "I don't think it's just going to be Lamar's position. We've got a good running back in (RB Daniel Thomas) that's certainly making some noise," Ireland said. The GM said he feels Miller and Thomas will be a "pretty good one/two punch."
Tue, 13 Aug 2013 09:13:37 -0700
Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman indicated this week that RB Lamar Miller is not necessarily locked in as the top tailback on the depth chart over RB Daniel Thomas, at least not yet. "Yeah, I would say it's pretty close, the running back competition," Sherman said. "I thought that Daniel Thomas did a really nice job in the game the other day. Certainly Miller has had his shining moments as well, and some of the younger guys have stepped up."
Fantasy Tip: For fantasy purposes, it is still expected Miller will come out on top in the preseason battle. Miller has been going in the neighborhood of Round 4 in fantasy football drafts in leagues of 12 or more teams. That might be a tad too high given the relative uncertainty of his status on the depth chart.
Thu, 08 Aug 2013 10:32:23 -0700

Wed, 24 Jul 2013 21:42:39 -0700
Miami Dolphins CB Nolan Carroll, WR Jasper Collins, RB Lamar Miller and RB Marcus Thigpen worked as kick returners Wednesday, July 24, with Thigpen as the clear cut favorite for the job after his stellar performance in the role last season.
Wed, 24 Jul 2013 10:56:23 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Marcus Thigpen appears to be the clear favorite for the kick return duties this season. RB Lamar Miller, WR Jasper Collins and CB Nolan Carroll have also received kick return reps during practice.
Mon, 22 Jul 2013 12:50:45 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has not earned the starting running back job yet because the team believes RB Daniel Thomas can have a big season if he is able to stay healthy. Miller has received most of the reps with the first-team offense, but Thomas has received some reps with the starters.
Fantasy Tip: Miller appears to have the edge for the starting job, but Thomas could receive the chance to win the job. Miller should be seen as a low-end No. 2 fantasy running back if he wins the job while Thomas should be considered a high-end No. 3 running back if he starts.
Sun, 21 Jul 2013 13:40:19 -0700
Miami Dolphins RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas displayed impressive bursts through the holes in the first day of camp. Thomas, who worked on diversifying his game in the offseason, showed quickness and agility at the second level.
Fri, 12 Jul 2013 09:27:01 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has been working out with San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore, who's taking on a sort of mentor role. They've been working together twice a day with a group of other players who, like them, came from the University of Miami. "(Miller's) footwork got a lot better" since they started working out together, said Gore.
Fantasy Tip: Miller is one of the prime targets to make a jump to RB1 potential if he can lock up the everydown role. Best part is you may be able to snag him as a low-end No. 2.
Tue, 09 Jul 2013 09:04:38 -0700
Free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens) is willing to keep waiting to see if another team will give him a large contract. The Miami Dolphins are interested in signing him to a low-money deal, and they remain the favorites to land him, unless another team comes out of the woodworks and offers him something he can't turn down.
Fantasy Tip: If Leach does indeed sign with Miami, he'll make a nice blocking weapon for Lamar Miller, who many consider to be a breakout player waiting to happen.
Mon, 24 Jun 2013 06:37:00 -0700
Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said RB Lamar Miller has improved as a pass blocker.
Thu, 20 Jun 2013 12:03:57 -0700

Thu, 13 Jun 2013 08:04:33 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has spent all of camp as the starting running back, but RB Daniel Thomas has seen a few first-team repetitions.
Fantasy Tip: Thomas is little more than a handcuff right now.
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 15:47:28 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is the clear favorite to win the starting running back job during training camp.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 05:49:24 -0700
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill confirmed RB Lamar Miller is the starting running back. "Lamar Miller is doing a great job this offseason, really has a great handle on the offense and he's doing a great job protecting," Tannehill said. "They can (all) run the ball but being able to understand the pass game, understand the checkdowns and where they're protecting really makes a big difference and makes me more comfortable."
Fantasy Tip: Miller is a great breakout candidate to target in the early middle rounds of your draft. Mike Wallace presents a deep-threat option to keep defenses honest, and Miller could have a good year.
Mon, 03 Jun 2013 14:13:36 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Marcus Thigpen, RB Lamar Miller, WR Brian Hartline and WR Brandon Gibson worked as punt returners during organized team activities Monday, June 3.
Sun, 02 Jun 2013 19:16:59 -0700
Miami Dolphins RBs Mike Gillislee and Jonas Gray (knee) appear set to do battle for the No. 3 running back job behind RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas. "We feel very good about (Gray) coming off the knee. Then (rookie) Mike Gillislee. There's youth at the position," general manager Jeff Ireland said. "There's special teams value there. We feel very good about their skill set. Obviously, we need to see them play a little more and solidify the position."
Sun, 02 Jun 2013 19:15:36 -0700
Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said the team is very comfortable with their stable of running backs despite the fact each has less than three years of NFL experience. "I feel very comfortable with (RB Daniel Thomas)," Ireland said. He said Thomas is a powerful back, and RB Lamar Miller has "speed and explosion," making for a "good combination."
Thu, 30 May 2013 11:58:04 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has a leg up on the competition to start at running back in 2013 although Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin considers the competition wide open, and Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee, Jonas Gray and Marcus Thigpen also are all competing for the starting job.
Fantasy Tip: This is a battle that will likely play out through training camp and preseason games. Keep an eye on how the running backs are used in training camp and preseason. Also, Joe Philbin used a running back by committee approach in 2012, which hurt the value of all involved.
Tue, 21 May 2013 20:47:20 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller worked predominantly with the first-team offense, but RBs Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee and Marcus Thigpen also saw carries Tuesday, May 21, in organized team activities (OTAs).
Sun, 19 May 2013 11:43:06 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Mike Gillislee is expected to compete with RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas for the starting running back job during offseason workouts and training camp.
Tue, 14 May 2013 21:05:08 -0700
Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has been working out with San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore during the offseason. Gore, a fellow University of Miami alum, counseled Miller on lessons learned in the NFL. Miller said Tuesday, May 14, he is staying at 215 pounds, but adding more muscle mass.
Fantasy Tip: Miller is viewed by some as having a leg up in the competition for the starting tailback job in Miami, although Daniel Thomas is not ready to go quietly. Whoever emerges as the top dog will be a low-end RB2 or flex fantasy option in most formats.
