Dolphins | Lamar Miller expected to start

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 17:34:20 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller said earlier this week that he is ready for the lead tailback role in Week 3, and with RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) out, he will get his chance. Miller is averaging a career-best 4.8 yards per carry through the first two games."I'm looking forward to it," Miller said. "Every running back wants the ball in their hands."

Fantasy Tip: Miller will set you back just $5600 (or 11.2 percent of your salary cap) in FantasyScore leagues in Week 3, making him an intriguing mid-level pick as an RB2 or flex play. He'll see regular touches while also saving you plenty of salary to spread across other position. Plus, Miller could be very productive against a Kansas City Chiefs rush defense which is allowing 125 yards per game on the ground.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller practices

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 11:07:49 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) practiced for the third straight day Thursday, Sept. 18. Miller has a slight limp after spraining his ankle in the team's Week 2 game, but has not been on the injury report this week.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has a decent FantasyScore price at $5,600 (11.20% of cap) in Week 3, but there are probably better options available to you without the injury risk.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller not on injury report

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 21:32:51 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) was not on the team's injury report Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Miller was in a walking boot after the Week 2 game in Buffalo, but apparently he is fine. FantasyScore owners will want to pay close attention to Miller, who could be a nice sleeper against Kansas City in Week 3, especially since he should see a lion's share of the carries with Knowshon Moreno (elbow) out.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller in walking boot

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 10:27:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills in a walking boot Sunday, Sept. 14, and his status for Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs isn't known.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins don't believe Miller's injury is serious, but we'll have a better idea of his availability for Week 3 as the week progresses. Knowshon Moreno will be out a while, so Miller will be thrust into the No. 1 role. It'll boost his value, but by how much, especially if he's not 100 percent?

Dolphins | Daniel Thomas re-signs

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 08:17:01 -0700

The Miami Dolphins re-signed RB Daniel Thomas to an undisclosed deal Monday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is worth placing on your watch list because of injuries to Knowshon Moreno (elbow) and Lamar Miller (ankle).

Dolphins | Lamar Miller should be fine

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 14:42:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills due to an ankle injury, although it is not considered serious.

Fantasy Tip: Miller will likely have to pick up the slack with Knowshon Moreno (elbow) potentially sidelined for multiple weeks with a dislocated elbow. If Miller is able to suit up in Week 3, he might re-emerge as a solid low-end RB2 or flex play for FantasyScore owners. Damien Williams might be a fantasy sleeper if Miller joins Moreno in the inactive column.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller expected to return

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 13:00:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) is expected to return to the game Week 2 after initially leaving with an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Miller only suffered a minor injury. Miller likely will be the most expensive Dolphins running back on FantasyScore next week because of the injury to Knowshon Moreno.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller leaves game

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 12:53:13 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (leg) left the game early Week 2, and is having his right leg looked at by trainers.

Fantasy Tip: The severity of the injury is not known at this point. Damien Williams could be a solid buy at FantasyScore next week if Miller and Knowshon Moreno are not able to play Week 3.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller still the starter

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 07:50:06 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is still listed as the No. 1 running back over RB Knowshon Moreno on the team's weekly depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Miller and Moreno will likely continue to share carries, and either back could see the lion's share of the workload any given week. Moreno ($6,700 - 13.4% of your cap) is the hot hand and a solid RB2 after a strong Week 1 showing. Miller ($4,600 - 9.2% of your cap) might present a worthwhile discount as your flex option in Week 2.

Dolphins | Dolphins going with hot hand at RB?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 13:28:37 -0700

Miami Dolphins RBs Knowshon Moreno and Lamar Miller will be involved in some sort of time share moving forward, offensive coordinator Bill Lazor said. Lazor also indicated that the team could go with the hot hand, based on the situation. "Sometimes a guy may just need a blow for a moment and, when he comes out because he's had a couple of plays in a row, we happen to call three straight runs. Some of it is going to be luck of the draw and the flow of the game. If a guy, if it's his turn to play and he runs for three first downs in a row, he's going to get to play more. They also get to earn some of it." Lazor sidestepped a question on whether he sees one of the backs as the starter heading into Week 2. Lazor doesn't think Miller's self esteem will play a factor, and he continues to be confident in Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Moreno clearly had the hot hand in Week 1 against the New England Patriots, running for 134 yards on 24 carries to Miller's 11. However, Miller also had four receptions for 19 yards and a score. Moreno will be a hot waiver wire addition and will be used more in FantasyScore moving forward, likely making Miller a bargain based on the matchups.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno delivers

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 06:28:34 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno had 24 rushes for 134 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. RB Lamar Miller had 11 rushes for 59 yards and four receptions for 19 yards and a score.

Fantasy Tip: Moreno appeared to move ahead of Miller this week. Moreno could be a great RB3 in Week 2 against the Bills. Miller is a low-end flex option.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno practices

Wed, 03 Sep 2014 15:38:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Moreno is a bit of a risky play because of the presence of Lamar Miller. Moreno's health should not be an issue heading into Week 1.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller in lead

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 07:24:04 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is listed ahead of RB Knowshon Moreno on the depth chart the team released Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Fantasy Tip: As stated previously, the competition could go any direction and be a week-to-week thing. Moreno may have more PPR upside, but see if you can handcuff the two in fantasy leagues.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller needs consistency

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 06:23:06 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller totaled nearly 20 percent (140 yards) of his season yardage total (709 yards) on his longest four carries of the 2013 season. He had a 3.3 yards-per-carry average in the other 173 carries. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor said the team is looking for him to be more productive and decisive. Miller has improved his pass blocking but needs to break more tackles and make would-be tacklers miss.

Fantasy Tip: There is skepticism growing about whether Miller or Knowshon Moreno will start and carry the bulk of the load. Miller has been the team's choice all preseason, but these two are neck and neck. Try to handcuff them together if possible.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno to top Lamar Miller?

Wed, 27 Aug 2014 08:45:36 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno is expected to have more carries than Lamar Miller, in the opinion of Omar Kelly.

Fantasy Tip: Of course, Kelly cautions that defenses and game situation will dictate each back's use. Moreno (knee) is working his way back to health, and Miller remains the favorite, according to head coach Joe Philbin. This is far from settled, and both reside in RB3 territory on draft day, at best.

Dolphins | Top RB job still up for grabs

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 22:46:36 -0700

Miami Dolphins RBs Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno split first-team snaps in practice the past two days, and head coach Joe Philbin said Tuesday, Aug. 26, that the job is open. However, he was more effusive and expansive discussing Miller than Moreno this week. "I like everything Lamar has done since he's gotten here," Philbin said. "He's had an excellent offseason and camp. I like everything he's done since April 21."

Fantasy Tip: The winner of this position battle will be a decent RB2 or flex fantasy play, while the loser of the battle is more of an RB3 or reserve for positional depth.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno looking good

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 11:15:23 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) is starting to look like his old self in the running game, but the team has not decided if he will play in the second preseason game, according to head coach Joe Philbin. Philbin said he is not sure how Moreno would do in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: Moreno was expected to compete for the starting job during training camp but needed to undergo knee surgery. He is expected to enter the season as the backup in Miami but could get a chance at the starting job if Lamar Miller struggles. Owners can consider selecting Moreno in the later rounds with the potential of him starting at some point.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno could still start

Mon, 11 Aug 2014 06:09:56 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) could win the starting running back spot over RB Lamar Miller before the start of the season, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Chris Perkins. Moreno looked much better Monday, Aug. 11, than he did the previous day.

Fantasy Tip: The team has raved about Miller all offseason, so we're a little skeptical that Moreno has time to bowl the team over. As it stands, Miller is a solid RB3 with Moreno as a good RB4.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno activated

Wed, 06 Aug 2014 05:24:55 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fantasy Tip: He has lots of catching up to do, but Lamar Miller has impressed the team so much that Moreno may already be lost in the fold. Look at Moreno as an RB4 with upside.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno unsure about preseason status

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:19:00 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) said he is feeling better but is not sure if he will be able to play in a preseason game. "I don't know. I don't know. I really don't even know. I just want to take each day one at a time. They have a schedule for me and they're just going to tell me every day what I have to do, and I just go out there and do it," Moreno said.

Fantasy Tip: Moreno was expected to compete for the starting job during camp, but Lamar Miller likely will get the job because of Moreno's injury. Miller should be considered a No. 3 running back in most leagues. Moreno could be a later-round flier or handcuff to Miller in some leagues.

Dolphins | Want Lamar Miller in LeSean McCoy role

Sun, 27 Jul 2014 16:43:15 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller will be used much like Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy was last season.

Fantasy Tip: That means he should see quite a few passes headed his way. He'll have to hold off Knowshon Moreno (knee), but Miller seems to be clearly in the lead in the backfield. Miller is a mid-rate RB2. Moreno has low RB3 value when he returns from injury.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno will undergo knee surgery

Mon, 23 Jun 2014 14:33:09 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this week, according to sources. Moreno is expected to miss four to five weeks.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins backfield was getting messy before this news, but now Lamar Miller will have every opportunity to seize the No. 1 running back role. Moreno's prognosis gives him ample time to recover and be ready for Week 1, but if there are setbacks, Daniel Thomas stands to be the beneficiary and receive more touches.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno update

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 06:40:53 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) is dealing a knee issue and may require arthroscopic surgery. If he undergoes surgery, he'd be ready for training camp. It is not the same knee in which he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in during the 2011 season.

Fantasy Tip: This compounds the earlier reports that he was out of shape, which gave Lamar Miller the nod for most of the first-team repetitions. Moreno still has the RB2 talent, but drafting him there is very risky right now.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno has health issues

Thu, 19 Jun 2014 14:23:08 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (undisclosed) is fighting a medical issue during minicamp this week, according to a source. The source said Moreno has been dealing with the undisclosed injury for a couple of weeks and needed time off to recover. Moreno has barely been involved in 7-on-7 and team drills during last week's organized team activities and this week's mandatory minicamp. He's spent the time working behind RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas, and even RBs Mike Gillislee and Damien Williams have seen more repetitions than Moreno.

Fantasy Tip: The move to Miami from Denver sets Moreno up to be a big disappointment for fantasy players, and the fact that he's injured and not receiving valuable reps with his new team is another giant red flag. Miller should be bumped up a tad in your current offseason rankings. Perhaps Moreno's presence will give Miller the kick he needs to finally produce.

Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno not worried

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 18:16:23 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno spent most of his time in practice Wednesday, June 18, either holding his helmet or working on the side with a trainer. RBs Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas and Mike Gillislee have been taking nearly all of the first-team snaps in offseason workouts, but Moreno isn't worried about his status. "We're all pushing each other," Moreno said. "I'm working on the little things and competing. Everything will take care of itself. I just want to do what I have to do to help my team win."

Dolphins | Lamar Miller still working with starters

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 05:37:06 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has worked with the first-team offense for three weeks in a row and is making more plays than RB Knowshon Moreno. "He's had a very good camp. ...This is the time as a third-year player that you're ready to make a big contribution," Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said of Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Miller hasn't given fantasy owners much to be excited about in his two seasons. He has the skills, but he'll need to be more physical and run harder to stay ahead of Moreno in the No. 1 role. He could wind up being a low-end RB2 if he holds the No. 1 job and performs, but right now, consider him more of a midrange RB3.

Dolphins | Coach happy with Lamar Miller

Mon, 09 Jun 2014 12:33:12 -0700

Dolphins | Lamar Miller taking first-team reps

Wed, 04 Jun 2014 19:29:10 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has been taking a lot of the first-team reps during offseason workouts, with RB Knowshon Moreno working mostly with the second-team offense. Head coach Joe Philbin indicated Moreno's conditioning should be better.

Fantasy Tip: Moreno is fully expected to overtake Miller for the top spot on the depth chart, but he hasn't really endeared himself to his new club by not being in tip-top shape. Miller should be relied upon mostly as an RB3 option for depth on fantasy rosters rather than a vital cog.

Dolphins | Agree to terms with Knowshon Moreno

Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:10:25 -0700

The Miami Dolphins agreed to terms with RB Knowshon Moreno (Broncos) on a one-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Moreno will likely see significant regression this year, and is likely to split time with Lamar Miller in the backfield. He could even see third-down duty. Moreno is more of No. 3 or flex fantasy football running back with the move to a less explosive offense. Moreno has slightly more value in PPR leagues.

As a result of this move, it means RB Montee Ball has some upside as an RB2 since he'll be expected to become the main back for the Denver Broncos.

Dolphins | Want Lamar Miller to be more consistent

Wed, 26 Mar 2014 13:29:23 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team wants RB Lamar Miller to play more consistently and be able to break more tackles.

Fantasy Tip: The team reportedly has been looking to add a running back in free agency, which would hurt Miller's value. Owners could consider Miller as an occasional matchup play depending on how the team uses him in 2014.

Dolphins | Could add a running back this offseason

Sun, 09 Feb 2014 08:57:03 -0800

The Miami Dolphins could add a running back this offseason, although the team is happy with both RB Lamar Miller and RB Daniel Thomas. "They're a good complement to each other, and we like Miller's speed and explosiveness," the Dolphins staffer said. "Miller has the higher ceiling, but you wish he ran with a more physical [style]. And both have to improve as blockers."

Dolphins | May look to add RB

Dolphins | Abandoned the run in Week 16

Mon, 23 Dec 2013 18:09:36 -0800

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was defending the fact that the team ran just three times in the entire second half in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills. "I just did not feel at any point of those 12 carries our longest run was three yards," Sherman said Monday, Dec. 23. "We really haven't had many explosive runs this year which is not good, we need to continue to build towards that. A lack of productivity in the run game caused me to veer off into another direction."

Fantasy Tip: Lamar Miller had just three totes for eight yards, while Daniel Thomas averaged less than a yard per carry, rushing for six yards on nine runs. Basically, you shouldn't be relying on either rusher, unless it's a deep league, if your championship contest is in Week 17. The New York Jets have been good against the run this year.

Thu, 05 Dec 2013 15:57:10 -0800

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (pectoral) was limited in practice again Thursday, Dec. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Miller doesn't really have much competition for touches with Daniel Thomas (ankle) still beat up. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been easy to run at times this year, too. Miller isn't the most appealing RB2, but he should be serviceable this weekend.

Dolphins | Running game listless on MNF

Mon, 11 Nov 2013 20:57:10 -0800

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller 'led' the team's running backs with two rushing yards on seven carries in the Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while RB Daniel Thomas ran four times for minus-2 yards. Miller also had nine yards on two receptions, while Thomas did not have a catch.

Fantasy Tip: It was a shockingly bad performance by the Miami rushing offense, which managed just two rushing yards against the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. Miller is only worth using as a flex fantasy option in the deepest of leagues right now, and Thomas can be dropped if you can find a more productive option. Check out Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Brian Leonard or Bobby Rainey, for example.

Tue, 05 Nov 2013 10:02:31 -0800

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said RB Lamar Miller could be given more work after his recent production. Miller is only averaging 11 carries per game through nine weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Miller looked solid in his effort against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9 Thursday night. If Sherman holds true to his word, Miller's stock is rising at the expense of Daniel Thomas.

Mon, 30 Sep 2013 21:21:28 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller had 11 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Sept. 30. He also added a catch for six yards.

Fantasy Tip: Miller wasn't great, but he was good. He has 62 or more rushing yards in three consecutive games, finding the end zone in two of the past three outings. He remains a decent RB2/3 or flex fantasy play heading into Week 5.

Dolphins | Want RBs to split carries

Tue, 17 Sep 2013 20:14:26 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin reiterated Tuesday, Sept. 17, that the team wants to keep the playing time comparable between RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas, despite Miller having had a more productive game in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. Philbin said unless "one guy is breaking tackles left and right and taking the ball a long way, and the other guy is not being productive," that this plan will continue.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should hang tight, as it might only be a handful of games like Week 2 which propel Miller into more of a lead role, and Thomas to a traditional backup job.
