Browns | Robert Griffin the likely shoo-in

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 06:41:44 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is likely to be the starter in 2016 as head coach Hue Jackson appears to be "all-in" on Griffin. Jackson and quarterback's coach Pep Hamilton have coached Griffin up on every aspect of the position, and Griffin has worked on sliding and throwing the ball away.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin appears to have a long leash in what is a make-or-break opportunity for him. He's a backup in fantasy, but he could be a bye-week replacement or injury fill-in.

Browns | RG3 has been underwhelming so far

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 20:13:00 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III will have to earn the starting job during the offseason, training camp and the preseason. Beat writer Tony Grossi said in a radio interview Monday, June 27, that Griffin has been underwhelming. "He is learning a new offense. First of all he is healthy, he's very healthy. He looks physically like the old Robert Griffin in that he's moving great, he can zing the ball pretty well, but that's just the first step," Grossi said.

Fantasy Tip: It's still rather early, so don't get too down on RG3. He still has a good shot to win the starting job, and if he does he should be considered a Top 25 fantasy quarterback.

Browns | Robert Griffin III working on mechanics

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 20:12:48 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is working on planting his back foot before throwing passes, and head coach Hue Jackson said Griffin is doing a good job of checking the ball down.

Fantasy Tip: All the talk about Griffin this offseason has been positive, but temper expectations. Draft him as a fantasy backup and hope he can come close to recapturing the form he displayed as a rookie.

Browns | Robert Griffin III still developing

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 19:00:21 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is still mastering the quarterback position, according to head coach Hue Jackson. "I'm not gonna say he's raw, but he is still developing," Jackson said. "And most young quarterbacks are still developing."

Fantasy Tip: Between his own development and the lack of offensive weapons around him in Cleveland, the deck is stacked against Griffin. He is worth a roll of the dice late in drafts, but don't count on him being a reliable contributor.

Browns | Cleveland starter not close to official

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 16:42:39 -0700

Cleveland Browns QBs Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown and Cody Kessler will be part of an open competition in training camp, according to head coach Hue Jackson. Jackson said he is not even close to naming a starting quarterback at the close of minicamp.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin still figures to be the favorite to start, but anything can happen between now and late August. As has been said before, though, none of Cleveland's quarterbacks are QB1 material.

Browns | Robert Griffin practicing smarter

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 16:02:15 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has been practicing his slides and throwing the ball away this offseason. Improving in those areas will enable the Browns to better keep positive downs and distances, according to Griffin. Griffin has also learned to take constructive criticism with head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton constantly adjusting his release point, stance, footwork and velocity.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin has had a knack for playing all-out, which has attributed to an extensive injury history already. Even if he can minimize mistakes and keep the Browns and himself on the field, he likely won't reach QB1 status. The tools and talent just aren't enough in Cleveland.

Browns | Robert Griffin not the starter yet

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 12:08:28 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has not officially been named the starting quarterback yet, and head coach Hue Jackson is not ready to name a starter at this point. "When the time is right, trust me, you guys will be the first to know," Jackson said. Jackson has seen improvements in Griffin, who he says is getting better every day, but added that the Browns need to make the right choice, not just the fast choice.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin is the favorite to start, unless he is injured during offseason activities or starts performing terribly. Griffin will only be worth starting in favorable matchups, though, assuming he wins the starting gig. He should not be drafted as a QB1.

Browns | Hue Jackson not rushing QB decision

Sun, 15 May 2016 17:58:02 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III or any other player won't be named the starting quarterback until they earn it, according to head coach Hue Jackson, but Jackson said that he expects to name the Week 1 start well before the season opener.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin should open the year as the starter, and while he may never resemble the player that he was his rookie year, he is worth a late-round flier based on potential alone.

Browns | Cody Kessler will get chance to start

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 22:16:19 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler will have a legitimate shot to beat out QB Robert Griffin III for the starting job in training camp and the preseason. "It's a competition. We'll let it play out," executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to imagine Kessler beating RG3, but it is Cleveland and anything is possible. Kessler would be nothing more than a low-end QB2 fantasy option if he does somehow win the starting job.

Browns | Robert Griffin not guaranteed to start

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 17:41:40 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III will have to compete for the starting quarterback job during training camp even though the team traded down in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, according to vice president of football operations Sashi Brown. Head coach Hue Jackson said Griffin's presence on the team did not affect the trade.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin likely is the leading candidate for the starting job at this point but will have to compete for the job during training camp. Griffin will not have a lot of weapons to work with next season if he wins the job and likely will be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.
