Browns | Cleveland on fifth QB in five games

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 17:31:36 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler will be the fifth starting quarterback in as many games for the Browns. Going back to the last two weeks of last season, the Browns have started former QBs Johnny Manziel and Austin Davis and QBs Robert Griffin III (shoulder), Josh McCown (shoulder) and now Kessler. Cleveland is the second team since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to start five different quarterbacks in five straight games, according to Elias.

Fantasy Tip: This is just further proof that the Browns' quarterback position cannot be trusted. The lack of consistency will be a damper to Josh Gordon's fantasy value when he does return, and it hurts the rest of the team, too. Corey Coleman, Gary Barnidge, Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson are still startable, but they're unlikely to reach their ceiling with an unproven rookie quarterback at the helm.

Browns | Robert Griffin to miss at least 10 weeks

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 06:59:05 -0700

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) is now expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks with a fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance that Griffin could miss the remainder of the 2016 season. QB Josh McCown will serve as Cleveland's starting quarterback but is not an ideal fantasy option and should be viewed as a midrange QB2 at best.

Browns | Cleveland won't trade for quarterback

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 15:03:07 -0700

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson said the Browns will not trade for a quarterback despite QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) being placed on the Reserve/Injured list. QB Josh McCown will start, with QB Cody Kessler likely serving as the backup. As stated earlier, Griffin will be reevaluated in three to four weeks.

Fantasy Tip: McCown held his own last year and looked Gary Barnidge's way frequently. The tight end's stock increases a little bit with McCown under center, but for the most part the Browns should function close to the same as with Griffin. McCown should not be viewed as a starting fantasy quarterback, however.

Browns | Robert Griffin placed on IR

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 11:37:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Sep. 12, with a fractured coracoid bone. He will not undergo surgery and will be reevaluated in three to four weeks.

Fantasy Tip: That certainly escalated quickly for Griffin and the Browns. Fortunately for Cleveland, they have a capable, veteran backup in Josh McCown. Gary Barndige may be the main beneficiary as he and McCown hooked up frequently last season. McCown doesn't have as much fantasy value as Griffin and is comfortably in the low-end QB2 conversation, but he's worth a pickup for Griffin owners.

Browns | RG3 could sit out Week 2

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 10:35:36 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) is in danger of missing Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot.

Fantasy Tip: This is speculation on Cabot's part, but it makes sense considering Griffin's right arm was dangling by his side at the end of Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Josh McCown would be the next man up at would probably serve as a boost for the entire passing game, particularly Gary Barnidge. If RG3 is ruled out, consider McCown a midrange QB2.

Browns | RG3 to have MRI on shoulder

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 16:51:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) will undergo an MRI on the sprained left shoulder he suffered in the Week 1 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. He admitted after the game he was in pain.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin initially said he expected to be fine for the Week 2 game, but now his status is in question until after his test. If he is forced to miss time it would be Josh McCown called into action. Either way, RG3 is only worth using in deeper fantasy leagues which use two starting quarterbacks.

Browns | Robert Griffin injures shoulder

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 14:48:15 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) said he suffered a sprained shoulder during the team's Week 1 game but expects to be ready for Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Griffin will be able to practice this week. He probably can be avoided in most leagues next week since he will be facing a strong Baltimore Ravens defense.

Browns | Front office backs Robert Griffin III

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 19:32:15 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III could be more than a "short-term" option for the franchise, head of football operations Sashi Brown said Friday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin will try to resurrect his career with Cleveland, and while he has enough potential to stash as a QB2, he is a shot-in-the-dark play in Week 1 against Philadelphia.

Browns | Cleveland taking long-term view with RG3

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 10:07:44 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has not been ruled out as the long-term starting quarterback for the franchise, according to head of football operations Sashi Brown.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin may have taken the first step by impressing his new teammates enough to be named one of the team's captains, but it will ultimately be up his mastery of new head coach Hue Jackson's offense and play on the field that will determine whether or not he turns out to be more than a stop-gap. Jackson's solid track record with quarterbacks and a supporting cast built around Josh Gordon and rookie Corey Coleman are reasons why he may have a shot to stick. Still, he's a QB2 at best for now in fantasy.

Browns | Robert Griffin III sacked five times

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 20:57:18 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III was sacked five times in a 30-13 preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 26. He completed eight of his 14 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown and ran once for four yards.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin was under pressure early and often. He has shown flashes of upside, but he is likely to remain hit and miss all season. He is a late-round lottery ticket.
