Redskins | Kirk Cousins named starter

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 06:24:34 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was named the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 31, over QB Robert Griffin III, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has a little more upside than the "game manager" purgatory, but he's a low-end QB2 in two-QB leagues. RG III should not be drafted at this point.

Redskins | No decision on Washington QB starter

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:40:28 -0700

Washington Redskins QBs Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III still don't know who will start Week 1, according to a source. It was previously reported that Cousins was expected to start Week 1 over Griffin.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin's recent concussion issues have made Washington's quarterback situation a complicated one. Again, whoever starts is not worth starting as your fantasy quarterback.

Redskins | Robert Griffin can practice

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:16:22 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is allowed to practice without contact following tests, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: There have been rumblings that Kirk Cousins will start Week 1 of the regular season. One would think Griffin could still start if he is medically cleared to play, though. Neither Cousins nor Griffin should be drafted as a QB1.

Redskins | Robert Griffin not cleared to play

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 16:09:46 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has not been cleared to play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, and will be reevaluated in one to two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin will not be allowed to play until he passes all of the concussion tests, which could make his status for Week 1 uncertain. Griffin probably will not be a great starting option when he is healthy this season and should be a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Redskins | Robert Griffin cleared

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 16:04:07 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has been cleared to play Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: How much Griffin plays remains to be seen. It would be of benefit to the Redskins to be cautious with him as he is coming off a concussion. Griffin sometimes plays with unnecessary abandon, which too frequently puts him in harm's way and makes him a risk to draft this year. Consider him a QB2.

Redskins | Robert Griffin won't be benched

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:21:44 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) practiced fully Tuesday, Aug. 25, and didn't experience any setbacks from the concussion he's been recovering from. Head coach Jay Gruden said he hasn't thought of using backup quarterbacks. Gruden also said he hasn't considered benching Griffin because of his lack of effectiveness.

Fantasy Tip: Gruden and the Redskins seem set on Griffin as their starter, at least for now. Griffin has been battered this preseason, and throughout his short career, but he is a capable starter if he can stay healthy. He gives Washington another dimension with his running ability, but he still shouldn't be regarded as a starting fantasy quarterback.

Redskins | Robert Griffin to see neurologist

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 13:11:24 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has been cleared for "non-contact" activity in practice, according to head coach Jay Gruden. He has no effects of a concussion but is still scheduled to see a neurologist.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin appears to have recovered from the concussion he suffered in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Aug. 20. Even before the injury, he was considered no better than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in deeper leagues.

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 11:37:45 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) is fully participating in practice Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin suffered a concussion in the last preseason game but appears to have recovered from the injury. Griffin struggled last season but is looking to improve his play but should not be more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback at this point.

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 16:17:39 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has doubts lingering from "people in the building" that believe the team needs to make a change at quarterback, according to ESPN980's Jason Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Until there's word that Griffin is replaced as the starter, he's a midrange QB2 in deeper leagues. Kirk Cousins is a low-end QB2 that seems to be gaining steam.

Redskins | Robert Griffin hit often

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 17:03:32 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion, stinger) was sacked three times and hit several other times during the second preseason game Thursday, Aug. 20, and had to leave the game because of a concussion and a stinger. Griffin was hit twice by unblocked rushers during the game. OG Brandon Scherff said the offensive line's play was unacceptable.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin is expected to be fine and could play in the next preseason game but could be in for a long season if the offensive line continues to struggle. Griffin should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Redskins | No timetable for Robert Griffin III

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 19:56:12 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has no timetable for his return, but he is the starter when healthy, head coach Jay Gruden said Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Griffin's health, but he should still be the starter in Week 1 unless it takes him an unusually long time to recover from his concussion. Draft him as a QB2 on the off chance he regains his rookie form.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III has concussion

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 19:46:04 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) suffered a concussion in a preseason game Thursday, Aug. 20, but his shoulder is fine after suffering a stinger, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin will have to go through concussion protocol, but on the plus side, the stinger he suffered doesn't seem to be an issue. Consider him a mid-range QB2 with upside.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III won't return

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 18:16:08 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (head, shoulder) will not return to the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Thursday, Aug. 20, after suffering a stinger and a possible head injury.

Fantasy Tip: Unless the injury turns out to be something that sidelines Griffin for an extended period of time, he should still be the starter for Washington in Week 1. Don't draft him to be your fantasy starter, but he is worth stashing as a backup in case he can recapture the form he showed as a rookie.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III suffers stinger

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 17:32:10 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (head, shoulder) left the preseason game against the Detroit Lions in the second quarter Thursday, Aug. 20, after suffering a shoulder stinger. He spent three minutes on the ground with a trainer after several Detroit players landed on his arm following a fumble. Griffin was also required to go through the NFL's concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin is considered questionable to return but it's highly unlikely that the team would risk having him suffer further injury in a preseason game. Check back for further updates on his status. Griffin should be viewed a No. 2 quarterback option in most fantasy football leagues due to a lack of consistency.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon working with QB

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:07:35 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon has been participating in extra work with QB Robert Griffin III to make sure they are on the same page when the season starts.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon had a bit of a disappointing 2014 season with 752 yards and three touchdowns and is looking to build a better chemistry with Griffin. Garcon should see a solid amount of targets this season and could be a middle- to late-round option depending on the league.

Redskins | Robert Griffin confident in abilities

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 10:32:58 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III said he believes he is the best quarterback in the NFL because he is a competitor and looks to improve each day. "Any athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else, they're not a top competitor, they're not trying to be the best that they can be. There's guys in this league that have done way more than me. But, I still view myself as the best because that's what I work toward every single day," Griffin said.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin struggled last year but looks to be the clear No. 1 quarterback for the Redskins this season. Owners could probably consider Griffin a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues since he is not consistent fantasy performer.

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 18:21:26 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III hit WR Rashad Ross and WR Pierre Garcon in stride on deep balls in practice Saturday, Aug. 15, and he connected with WR Evan Spencer in the red zone.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin may never recapture the form he showed as a rookie, but he is still has enough potential to gamble on as a high-end QB2.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III more comfortable

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 20:46:04 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III said he's more at ease in his second year in head coach Jay Gruden's system. "Second year in it, I feel like you can go out there and you kind of know what to do, and I think that helps," Griffin said. "You can play free and not be worrying about a thousand different things at one time going on in your head. I just feel more comfortable in the office, comfortable with where I'm at and comfortable with the coaches. That's all you can ask for."

Fantasy Tip: RGIII shined in the two-minute drill Monday, Aug. 3, going 8-for-8 for 80 yards and a score against the team's defense. It's a make-or-break year for him, and he's in the mix of high-end QB2's.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III needs to be ordinary

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 15:25:12 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III told SI.com's Peter King Friday, July 31, the team is asking him to be more basic in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: RG3 went on to say when the opportunity to make a big play presents itself, he's still going to take it and not think twice about it. Griffin had six interceptions and nine fumbles last season to go with just six passing and one rushing touchdown. While his performance over the last two seasons has drastically decreased his fantasy value, RG3 will have plenty of upside as a late-round backup quarterback in standard leagues.

Redskins | Robert Griffin perfect Friday

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 17:06:37 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III did not throw an incompletion during team drills Friday, July 31. Griffin appears to be going through his progressions and throwing to secondary targets during some the snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin has struggled the last few seasons and is looking to improve his play this season. Owners should consider Griffin as a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues this season and only used against favorable matchups.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III shaky Thursday

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 19:14:28 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III was inconsistent during full-team workouts Thursday, July 30, throwing high to his targets at times.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin is facing a make-or-break season, and while there is always a chance he could recapture the magic he showed as a rookie, drafting him as more than a mid-level QB2 is asking for disappointment.

Redskins | HC excited about Robert Griffin

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 15:30:51 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's progress this offseason has head coach Jay Gruden excited. Gruden said Griffin improved during organized team activities, adding that the more comfortable Griffin becomes with the terminology and reads, the more he'll keep improving. Gruden also said that Griffin has taken over as a leader, but that the team and coaching staff still need to be patient with him.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin did not excel in his first season in Gruden's system. That was followed by the dislocated ankle. If Griffin can combine good health with the improvements he's made on the field, he could have a nice rebound this season. One should temper expectations, however, and take Griffin as a mid-range to low-end QB2.

Redskins | Robert Griffin critiqued

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 12:29:32 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's decision-making, fundamentals, footwork and his inability to find open receivers are all reasons why Griffin isn't good enough to be successful in the NFL, in the opinion of ESPN NFL analyst Mark Brunell.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin has certainly been a disappointment since taking the league by storm in his rookie season. He has yet to play a full season in his three years in the NFL, and his games played have decreased every year, from 15 to 13 to 9 since 2012. As Brunell also said, Griffin does have the skill set to succeed, but he's too risky to draft as a QB1.

Redskins | Robert Griffin feeling better

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 15:27:01 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III said he's feeling better than he's felt in a while. "I just think we're all feeling better about what we're doing," Griffin said. "We know a lot more than last year. And for me as a player, you always have to be confident. Sometimes you have to throw a little swag on it."

Fantasy Tip: Griffin has had a positive offseason, and head coach Jay Gruden has even taken notice with his development. The big question for Griffin is can he stay healthy? He's coming off a season in which he suffered a dislocated ankle. In Griffin's three-year career so far, he hasn't played in all 16 games even once. The talent is there, and he has more value because of his ability to run the football, but he's too risky to be taken as a starting fantasy quarterback.

Redskins | RG3 making progress

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 18:09:04 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III has been impressing head coach Jay Gruden this offseason. "The more he plays, the more success he has, the more confidence he's going to build up as a player and the more confident this whole offense is going to be with him under center," Gruden said of Griffin. "That comes with time. I don't think anybody lacks confidence with him at quarterback. I think the transition for him into a new season last season was a little bit rocky for all of us. When you have the same system going in for Year 2, I think he's going to get better," said Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: RG3 will likely slide to the bottom of 2015 fantasy drafts, but if he can stay healthy there is tremendous upside to be had. Owners who miss out on a top-10 quarterback should take Griffin as their No. 2, as he still has the potential to be an elite fantasy asset.

Redskins | Robert Griffin's option was obvious choice

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 11:22:26 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's fifth-year option being picked up was the obvious decision, according to team president Bruce Allen. "We know his talent. It really was a no-brainer," Allen said. "I think if you asked us six months before it would have been the same decision."

Fantasy Tip: It's interesting that it took Washington how long it did to pick up Griffin's option considering Allen's words. Nevertheless, Griffin is slated to start the 2015 season and will look to play a full season for the first time in his career. Draft him as a QB2.

Redskins | Mike Shanahan talks RG3

Sat, 23 May 2015 15:25:04 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III can't blame his regression on injuries, according to former Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan. "I don't think getting hurt has anything to do with it," Shanahan told WJFK in Washington Friday, May 22. "I think what you do is you rehab yourself and you get better. ... You don't have to have great running ability to run the read-option. You have to be able to know when to slide, when to throw the football away, depending on if you're running or passing," said Shanahan.

Fantasy Tip: RG3 has the abilities to be a steal in the late rounds of 2015 fantasy drafts, if he's able to stay healthy and translate his game to head coach Jay Gruden's system. Griffin is worth a flier as a second quarterback.

Redskins | RG III's benching meant to send message

Fri, 15 May 2015 09:23:41 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III was benched last season, in part, to set him up to succeed in 2015. The team wanted him to lose his sense of entitlement to his opportunities.

Fantasy Tip: RG III appears to be the team's starter, but he'll have a short leash during the season. He's a midrange QB2 in fantasy.

Redskins | Robert Griffin to make strides in '15?

Mon, 11 May 2015 13:35:29 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III should be comfortable enough with the offense to improve this season, according to head coach Jay Gruden. "Everything should come a lot more natural for [Griffin], and hopefully, we see that transition from year one to year two in this system with the terminology and knowing where to go with your footwork and anticipation of getting the ball out quicker," Gruden said.

Fantasy Tip: It will certainly be hard not to improve this year after a tumultuous 2014 campaign that ended prematurely because of a dislocated ankle. If he's comfortable enough with the offense and if he can play a full season up to his potential, he can end up in QB1 range this season.

Redskins | Robert Griffin's option picked up

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 09:45:27 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's 2016 option was picked up Monday, April 27. He will make $16.2 million in 2016, and he'll have a base salary of $3.27 million in 2015. The fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only, meaning the Redskins could release him before the 2016 season without salary cap ramifications.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin is expected to be the starting in training camp and leading up to Week 1, but beyond that, not much is guaranteed for him unless he delivers on the field. He hasn't done much since an impressive rookie season in 2012, mainly due to injuries. Griffin has plenty of upside left, though, and he's a high-end QB2 in traditional leagues, with plenty or risk/reward.

Redskins | Robert Griffin option's likely picked up

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 05:30:29 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will likely have his fifth-year option exercised in 2016. The team views it similar to a franchise tag situation.

Fantasy Tip: After basically two lost seasons, Griffin is in a make-or-break year. He's a high-end QB2 in two-quarterback leagues.

Redskins | Robert Griffin has support of teammate

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 16:08:58 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is doing what he needs to do in order to improve, according to WR DeSean Jackson. Jackson added that the offense needs to build their camaraderie and increase its chemistry for them to improve on a four-win 2014 season.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin first needs to stay on the field. He's only played in 24 games the last two seasons. If he can stay healthy, he's worth starter consideration with his dual-threat ability.

Redskins | Robert Griffin OK without option?

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 15:00:42 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III said he wouldn't be "bummed" if the Redskins did not pick up his 2016 option. "I just want to win. I want to win games and have fun doing it. The rest will take care of itself," Griffin said.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin seems more relaxed and stress-free heading into the 2015 season. He has a lot to prove after a tumultuous 2014 campaign. Griffin should be regarded as a low-end QB2 with fantasy drafts approaching.

Redskins | Washington not giving up on RG3

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 13:57:22 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III isn't being given up on by the team's executives, according to executive Doug Williams. "This is a young guy that's got some talent," Williams said. "There are adjustments that he has to make if I think given time, and I think that's one of the reasons why nobody has given up on him. With the talent that he does have, you're hoping that the last couple of years with the injuries and everything is out of the way, that he will develop into the guy that we all hope for him to be. I think it's fair to give him that opportunity."

Fantasy Tip: Griffin will enter training camp as the team's starter, but he'll have to perform well to hold off Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy. Griffin could likely have a short leash with the coaching staff, too. On top of his injury history in recent seasons, Griffin is a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option as a QB2.

Redskins | Competition not going away for RGIII

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 16:28:32 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will be the first-team quarterback during offseason workouts, according to head Jay Gruden, but Gruden also said he expects QB Kirk Cousins and QB Colt McCoy to be on the roster when the regular season begins.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin has the most upside among the three, but his injury history and the lack of support he seems to have received from the coaching staff at times makes him a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option. He is worth taking a chance on in drafts but only after you have secured a more reliable starting quarterback.

Redskins | Robert Griffin's option to be picked up?

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 13:56:17 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's option must be picked up by May 3. General manager Scot McCloughan said the team has had discussions about Griffin's option and that they are still talking it through.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin has had trouble staying healthy so far in his young career, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see Griffin be released. When healthy, however, Griffin is a tremendous dual-threat fantasy quarterback. Stay tuned leading up to the May 3 deadline.

Redskins | Washington willing to draft QB early

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 13:30:43 -0700

Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan said that the team will go with the best player available in the 2015 NFL Draft with the No. 5 overall pick, which means that they could take a quarterback in that spot. McCloughan could be compelled to take Oregon QB Marcus Mariota if he's available at No. 5, even after the team said QB Robert Griffin III was the team's starter a month ago. McCloughan doesn't think anyone will be handed a job, and they'll have to compete to win a spot.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin is the team's starting quarterback right now, but he'll have to earn it in training camp this summer, and that task will become tougher if Mariota is on the roster in July. If Griffin indeed winds up being the starter in Week 1, he'll have to prove himself in the fantasy landscape as well. Consider him a QB2 with upside for more if he stays healthy.

Redskins | GM remains high on Robert Griffin

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 11:31:53 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will enter the 2015 season as the team's starting quarterback, and general manager Bruce Allen thinks Griffin's ceiling in the NFL remains high. Griffin missed five games last year with a dislocated ankle, and Allen said Griffin must stay healthy in order to realize his potential. "There's never been a question about him watching film," Allen said. "He is motivated. He's a (25-year-old) man who is still growing and learning the NFL game. We've seen him, a couple years ago, play at the highest of highs. Maybe it spoiled us a little bit to expect that all the time."

Fantasy Tip: Aside from his tantalizing rookie campaign, Griffin has been a huge disappointment, and injuries have surely played their part. Heading into 2015, as Allen notes, being injury-free is the most important. Most fantasy drafters have forgotten about Griffin's rookie season at this point and are more focused on his injury risks. That'll make him a discount on draft day. Select him as a QB2 risk-reward with plenty of upside left.

Redskins | Robert Griffin to start

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 10:16:43 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will go into the season as the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should probably not count on Griffin as their starting quarterback heading into next season, but he probably should be considered as a No. 2 quarterback option on draft day. He also could have good value in FantasyScore depending on the price and matchup.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins in the mix for Redskins?

Wed, 11 Feb 2015 17:30:34 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins should have the opportunity to battle Redskins QB Robert Griffin III for the team's starting quarterback position, in the opinion of The Washington Post's Mike Jones. Jones noted Cousins displayed better feel in the pocket than Griffin but also acknowledged that Cousins was unable to avoid turnovers.

Fantasy Tip: Redskins head coach Jay Gruden was able to coax positive fantasy contributions out of all of the team's quarterbacks at one point or another during the 2014 season. If Cousins is able to unseat Griffin as the team's starter, he would have QB2 value.

Redskins | Robert Griffin to receive another chance

Fri, 09 Jan 2015 14:43:18 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III likely will be given another chance to succeed, because teams should not give up on young quarterbacks, according to general manager Scot McCloughan. McCoughlan said Griffin needs to be surrounded by a strong running attack and a more reliable offensive line.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Griffin will be the leading candidate for the starting quarterback entering training camp next season. Griffin probably should not be considered as a starting quarterback in drafts next season but could be a No. 2 quarterback.

Redskins | Jay Gruden does not commit to QB

Mon, 29 Dec 2014 17:58:06 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III and the rest of the team's quarterbacks will be evaluated methodically during the offseason before a decision on a starter for the 2015 season is made, head coach Jay Gruden said Monday, Dec. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Gruden wasn't around when Griffin was drafted, but given how much the franchise gave up in order to acquire Griffin, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him earn another shot at the starting gig. He is at least worth a speculative add as a QB2 in drafts next year just in case he recaptures the form he showed in his rookie year.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins itching for opportunity

Mon, 29 Dec 2014 08:49:33 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said it would be tough to return to the team in 2015 if QB Robert Griffin III was given the starting job. Cousins said he would talk to the front office.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins would be a mid-to-low QB2 if he became a starting quarterback with Washington or elsewhere. Griffin has more upside because of the added running element, but he's in the same boat in traditional leagues.

Redskins | Robert Griffin likely to play

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 14:14:57 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) is likely to play in Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys despite dealing with a sprained right shoulder, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Griffin was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 24. "He can throw the ball, it's just a little sore," Gruden said. "We just want to make sure he doesn't aggravate it more, give him another couple days of rest and be ready to go Friday."

Fantasy Tip: Griffin ($5,555) should play in the season finale, but he doesn't inspire much confidence for your FantasyScore lineups, especially if he's not 100 percent facing the Dallas Cowboys.

Redskins | Redskins looking for wins from QB

Mon, 22 Dec 2014 10:39:18 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III was benched earlier in the season in part because head coach Jay Gruden is looking for a quarterback that could lead the team to wins. "That is the No. 1 factor, and that is it," Gruden said. "Obviously you look at the production and all that stuff, and what he could've done maybe, but winning football games is the only thing that matters to me for a quarterback. And it doesn't matter if they go 12-for-24 for 80 yards and we win, or if they go 28-for-35 for 400 [yards] and we lose, you'd rather have the 12-for-24. The ability to manage a game, stay away from the big turnovers and get the W is all that counts."

Fantasy Tip: Griffin will be starting in Week 17 after having a decent performance in Week 16. Griffin will be facing a tough Dallas Cowboys defense this week and may not be the best option for owners this week.
