Jets | Stephen Hill still behind

Wed, 20 Aug 2014 08:08:11 -0700

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill has only one reception and 17 yards this preseason and has been targeted only twice. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal have worked with Hill on his route running, including shortening his stride lengths to add fluidity and efficiency, but Hill hasn't shown much progress.

Fantasy Tip: Hill has raw ability but has not yet rounded out his physical tools. He's someone to watch during the season in case it all clicks, but it's looking like a long process. His QB situation won't do him any favors.

Jets | Stephen Hill working to improve health, speed

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 12:25:38 -0700

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill's (knee) No. 1 priority this offseason is staying healthy. Hill said he doesn't have to be at full-speed all the time. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal have worked with Hill on controlling strides and changing direction in order to better control his speed.

Fantasy Tip: It's positive news for Hill, but for a notorious underachiever, there's still a lot to prove. He's currently undraftable unless he makes strides in training camp.

Jets | Stephen Hill showing improvement

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 19:58:17 -0700

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill had a solid minicamp, moving well and catching the passes thrown his way.

Fantasy Tip: Considering injuries and drops have been the main issues for the former second-round pick, his performance in minicamp was at least a step in the right direction. That being said, fantasy owners should still make Hill prove himself during the regular season before taking a chance on him.

Jets | Receiving corps is deep

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 13:17:00 -0700

New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg believes the team's receiving corps is extremely deep and has more than a handful of guys who can play at a real high level.

Fantasy Tip: Eric Decker is a potential WR3 and the only Jets' receiver to count on for weekly contributions. Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill and David Nelson will battle for targets behind Decker, but none are worth more than a late-round pick.

Jets | Nothing guaranteed for Stephen Hill

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 15:00:45 -0700

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill's roster spot is on the line this summer after two lackluster seasons and knee problems. Hill worked with QB Geno Smith in the offseason in order to improve their chemistry, and Hill has been receiving first-ream repetitions in minicamp. He didn't have surgery on his knees in the offseason but spent his time strengthening the muscles in his knees. "My knee actually feels better than it did last year," Hill said. "Because last year I didn't take a lot of OTA reps and I went all through OTAs and now minicamp, so right now I feel strictly 100 percent." The Jets have plenty of options at wide receiver if Hill doesn't work out. He caught 24 balls for 342 yards and a touchdown last season.

Fantasy Tip: Unless Hill plays out of his mind in minicamp and training camp, he's likely to be buried on the wide receiver depth chart behind the likes of Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley and David Nelson. Avoid Hill in all fantasy leagues.

Jets | Stephen Hill could start

Fri, 13 Jun 2014 10:39:39 -0700

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill could start opposite WR Eric Decker in 2014, in the opinion of Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. The battle for the No. 2 wide receiver could come down to Hill and WR David Nelson.

Jets | Coach not giving up on Stephen Hill

Thu, 12 Jun 2014 18:43:52 -0700

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill still has a chance to become a consistent part of the team's offense, according to receivers coach Sanjay Lal. Hill has battled injuries in each of his first two seasons, and Lal believes the injuries are a big reason why he has struggled to make an impact. "If he can maintain his health, I can see him becoming consistent," Lal said. "Because to become consistent, you have to practice. And you have to practice without thinking about, 'Am I going to get hurt?' or 'Is this hurting?'"

Fantasy Tip: Hill has always possessed the physical tools to make an impact in the NFL, but drops and injuries have prevented him from contributing much. Lal may still have confidence in Hill at this point, but fantasy owners have little reason to share his confidence. It is doubtful he will be worthy of a starting spot in any fantasy format this year.

Jets | Geno Smith working out with receivers

Thu, 22 May 2014 15:21:41 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is working out in Florida with Jets WRs Jeremy Kerley, Jacoby Ford, Stephen Hill and Greg Salas.

Fantasy Tip: Well, it can't hurt Smith's fantasy value. None of the receivers involved are necessarily fantasy targets, but Hill and Kerley could emerge as waiver wire additions. Will Smith improve enough to win the job and the hearts of fantasy owners? "Doubtful" seems like a kind response.

We'll see," Ryan said about Hill's season being over. "Obviously we'd like to get him out here if he can play and can be effective. That would the best-case scenario for us. We'll see how it progresses."

Quite honestly, as much as he wants it, it's best for us to make the decision to deactivate him this week."

Jets | Stephen Hill not producing

Wed, 20 Nov 2013 16:17:56 -0800

Updating a previous item, New York Jets WR Stephen Hill, who has no targets and no catches in the last two games, will see his number of snaps go down in Week 12. "I've been disappointed, there is no doubt because we see all the potential that this young man has," head coach Rex Ryan said. "He's got the speed, the size, he's tough enough, he has courage. ... By now I think we're all expecting, Jets fans are expecting him to take the next step and for whatever reason it hasn't been there yet. Doesn't mean we're giving up on the young man, but we want to see it."

Fantasy Tip: Hill shouldn't be on most rosters. The Jets' offense is wildly inconsistent with Geno Smith at the helm, too.

Both New York Jets WRs Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) and Stephen Hill (undisclosed) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 30, and their injuries are unclear, although Kerley was bothered by hamstring tightness last week.

Fantasy Tip: Neither injury appears to be serious, but keep an eye on both wideouts later this week. With Jeff Cumberland (head) out this weekend, both Kerley and Hill should play a bigger role in the team's passing game.

Jets | More targets likely for Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley

Fri, 25 Oct 2013 17:58:24 -0700

With New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) ruled out for the Week 8 game against the Cincinnti Bengals, WRs Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) and even David Nelson (hamstring) are likely to see more targets, as might TE Jeff Cumberland.

Fantasy Tip: Hill and Kerley are worth a look as a WR4 or flex play in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, and Cumberland is a decent bye-week replacement if you primary option is off. However, you can mostly ignore Nelson for fantasy purposes.

Jets | Santonio Holmes misses practice

Wed, 23 Oct 2013 13:20:57 -0700

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Holmes is not expected to play this weekend. Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill will continue to benefit from his absence. Holmes could be returning soon, though, so if he's still on the waiver wire, consider adding him for future weeks.

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: We expect Holmes to sit out at least another week. Against the New England Patriots' depleted defense, Stephen Hill and Jeremy Kerley could be decent flex plays in deeper leagues.
