Giants | David Wilson to go for tests

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:27:30 -0700

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) will undergo tests after suffering a "burner" in practice Tuesday, July 29. The team "will be careful" with Wilson.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants and Tom Coughlin are praying that this burner doesn't equate to a significant setback for Wilson. If it's significant, Wilson's season may be over before it began. Obviously, he's a big risk if you're drafting in the coming days. Rashad Jennings' value will go up even more if Wilson's injury proves costly.

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) took his first hit of training camp Friday, July 25, without issue. "That felt good," Wilson said.

Giants | Could use three-man rotation at RB

Wed, 23 Jul 2014 05:18:00 -0700

New York Giants RBs Rashad Jennings, David Wilson and Andre Williams could be used in a three-man rotation this season to keep Jennings fresh.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings will be the lead back with Wilson in to change the pace. Williams could be the goal line back. Jennings is a decent RB3 with Wilson an RB4. Williams could be a decent flier as an RB5 with upside in TD-only leagues.

Giants | David Wilson looks sharp

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 19:23:28 -0700

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) was making quick cuts and looked like one of the most athletic players on the field Tuesday, July 22, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson's injury history and the depth chart are working against him, but he could still be worth a late-round flier in fantasy leagues thanks to his big-play speed.

Giants | Former OC believes David Wilson can help

Mon, 21 Jul 2014 10:32:15 -0700

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) should be able to help the offense if he is able to stay healthy this upcoming season, according to former offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride. Gilbride said Wilson needs to work on his pass blocking and route running.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson said he has been cleared, but it remains to be seen what he will be able to do on the field after neck surgery. He should have a role in the offense if he stays healthy, but he probably will not receive most of the playing time at the position. Owners can consider Wilson as a risky No. 4 running back leading up to their drafts.

Mon, 21 Jul 2014 08:00:40 -0700

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings is still considered the lead running back, despite RB David Wilson's (neck) clearance for contact.

Mon, 21 Jul 2014 07:29:48 -0700

Giants | Andre Williams could be part of rotation to start the year

Mon, 07 Jul 2014 18:46:26 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams could unseat RB Peyton Hillis as the power back by the start of the year and become a part of a three-man rotation with RB Rashad Jennings and RB David Wilson, according to Giants.com writers John Schmeelk and Dan Salomone.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings is the favorite to be the featured back, but with Wilson's injury history, there is a chance Williams could carve out a worthwhile role in the offense. He probably isn't worth drafting at this point, but he is worth keeping an eye on to see how his role develops.

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) has shown significant progress and healing after undergoing neck fusion surgery. Giants | David Wilson could be ready for training camp

Wed, 04 Jun 2014 12:29:07 -0700

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) could be cleared when he is re-evaluated at the start of training camp, according to team physician Dr. Russell Warren. Warren added Wilson has progressed and healed significantly since his neck fusion.

Fantasy Tip: There is still too much risk in drafting Wilson at this point, especially with Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams in the mix. Consider Jennings a low-end RB2 in standard leagues.

Giants | David Wilson update

Wed, 04 Jun 2014 09:14:30 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) hasn't shown significant improvement from his surgically repaired neck Wednesday, June 4, so he won't be allowed to do contact drills in organized team activities and minicamp, according to a source. However, he expects to be cleared for training camp next month. He'd likely have to start camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list if he's not cleared, and he'd be a candidate for Injured Reserve if the problem continues. Wilson has been practicing almost exclusively in return drills during OTAs.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants are being extremely cautious with Wilson, and there is no guarantee he'll be good to go for Week 1. He's an extremely risky draft choice right now, so hopefully we'll have a better grasp on his health when fantasy football drafts are in full swing. As of now, Rashad Jennings' value is very intriguing as an RB2. Andre Williams was also drafted this year and could compete for touches with Wilson.

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) met with doctors Wednesday, June 4, and will do so again in July. He expects to be cleared for full contact in camp.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson will compete not only with his own health but also Rashad Jennings and rookie Andre Williams in this new offense. Wilson is still a notable late-rounds selection in most fantasy drafts.

Fri, 30 May 2014 15:13:22 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Wilson will enter a crowded backfield, with no guarantee of consistent playing time. He is a late-round target until his role in the offense becomes clearer.

Fri, 21 Feb 2014 11:24:24 -0800

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is not sure of RB David Wilson's (neck) status for both the offseason program and the fall. "I really don't know the answer to that question," Coughlin said. "I think a lot has to do with his attitude, the way he feels, the way the doctors and trainers obviously feel. He's not going to be put out there unless he's ready for that. I'm not even sure how he's going to be limited in the spring. I saw him about four or five days ago and he's that same bouncy personality. He's very pleased with where he's at right now. He's able to do work with his legs for example, not as a heavy-duty thing but in a lighter capacity. He's excited about that. He looks good, he feels good. He doesn't have a lot of pain. I'm excited about that.

Giants | David Wilson ahead of schedule

Thu, 20 Feb 2014 06:12:04 -0800

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) is doing well in his recovery from offseason neck surgery and there is no reason to believe he will not be able to play in 2014. Wilson is working out and lifting weights.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor Wilson's recovery this offseason to see if he suffers any setbacks but should not expect much from him next season. The Giants likely will add another running back that will compete for the starting job, so Wilson's role is unknown at this point.

Giants | David Wilson to have neck fusion surgery

Thu, 09 Jan 2014 15:18:06 -0800

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) will have a fusion of the vertebrae to fix the herniated disc in his neck this offseason, and the procedure will be performed Jan. 16. The Giants aren't counting on having Wilson available in 2014. "I don't think so," general manager Jerry Reese said. "No. 1 we just want David to get healthy. If he gets healthy, that's a bonus. But I don't think we can go into next season saying, 'David will be ready to go. He'll be our No. 1 back.' Necks can be tricky. You have to be careful with those things."

Fantasy Tip: As fantasy football owners, you'll have to count Wilson out of drafts this fall, unless he drastically recovers over the summer. Andre Brown, if he's re-signed, would be the expected main back.
