Browns | Brock Osweiler to compete for starting job

Wed, 19 Apr 2017 10:33:53 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler will compete for the starting job in camp, according to executive vice president Sashi Brown.

Fantasy Tip: Osweiler will presumably compete with Cody Kessler for the starting job, assuming the Browns don't select a quarterback on the first day of the draft next week. Regardless of whom Cleveland adds on offense in the draft, the winner of the quarterback competition will struggle to be anything more than than a low-end fantasy QB2.

Browns | Brock Osweiler reports for workouts

Mon, 17 Apr 2017 21:54:48 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler reported to team headquarters Monday, April 17, for the start of voluntary offseason workouts. Head coach Hue Jackson has not yet committed to Osweiler staying on the roster when the new season begins.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns have gone on record of saying that they plan on dumping Osweiler, so this is a pretty surprising development. Even so, even if he does manage to remain with the team going into the upcoming campaign, he probably wouldn't be starting under center. Thus, he'll have no worth for fantasy owners.

Browns | CLE still wants to dump Brock Osweiler

Tue, 04 Apr 2017 19:11:26 -0700

The Cleveland Browns still plan on moving QB Brock Osweiler, "whether in a trade or an outright release." The club would like to continue to develop QB Cody Kessler, and as a result, Osweiler could be dealt on draft weekend, or the Browns could choose to cut him and try to recoup some of his $16 million salary.

Fantasy Tip: If Cleveland is to dispose of Osweiler, they'll have to cut him, as it seems extremely unlikely they'll find a trading partner. Either way, it appears to be definite that the former Houston Texans starting quarterback will have a new home in 2017. At this rate, he won't have any fantasy value entering the new season.

Browns | Brock Osweiler sticking on roster for now

Sun, 26 Mar 2017 10:20:18 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler will remain a Brown "until he's not", according to head coach Hue Jackson. "He is (going to be part of the Browns). Obviously, he's a player on our team and we're going to treat him just like we do all of our other quarterbacks until he's not. … He's a guy that's gonna come in and compete. We haven't had an opportunity to meet with him … but once we start our offseason program, phase one, we'll get a chance to know him and he'll get to know us," Jackson said.

Fantasy Tip: It is anyone's guess as to whether or not Cleveland will draft a quarterback on the first two days of the draft - a move that would probably signal the end of Osweiler's short stay - or if he'll eventually get a shot to start. Either way, owners can safely avoid him in fantasy in 2017.

NFL | Texans, Browns cycling through QBs

Sun, 12 Mar 2017 12:51:01 -0700

The Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns will become the 10th and 11th teams since 2002 to start five different Week 1 starters in as many years following the departures of Brock Osweiler and Robert Griffin III, respectively.

Browns | Brock Osweiler sealed Texans' fate with fight

Sun, 12 Mar 2017 10:05:06 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler "reacted negatively" to head coach Bill O'Brien's decision to turn to him in Week 17 after starter Tom Savage was injured in the second quarter of a loss to the Tennessee Titans. An argument reportedly ensued and the two men eventually engaged in a "physical confrontation that got ugly", according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: If all the details of this report are true, it would help explain why the Texans showed no interest in giving Osweiler another chance to prove himself in 2017 after a disastrous first season. Osweiler will likely be released soon if the Browns can't find a trade partner, while Houston will almost certainly spend a high draft pick on fixing their quarterback situation, even if it adds Tony Romo at some point.

Browns | Cleveland looking to move Brock Osweiler

Sat, 11 Mar 2017 11:45:36 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler is being shopped to other teams in a trade, and the Browns are looking for a third-round pick in return, according to sources. The Browns are open to adding a fifth-round pick in the trade and are willing to pick up as much as half of the $16 million guaranteed in Osweiler's contract. The team likely will release Osweiler if they are not able to trade him.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns added Osweiler because of the second-round pick in the trade and do not intend to keep him on their roster. It is not known if Osweiler will be able to find a starting job if he becomes a free agent. Owners in all fantasy leagues should avoid him even if he is a starter.

Browns | Brock Osweiler not the future?

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 12:44:58 -0800

Impending Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler is not necessarily the future of the franchise, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Instead, the belief is that Cleveland wanted the second-round pick from Houston and was willing to absorb the salary of Osweiler to facilitate the deal.

Fantasy Tip: Presuming this is accurate, the once-promising future of Osweiler is in free-fall. Regardless of his status for 2017, he should not be trusted as anything more than deep roster filler in cavernous leagues.

Browns | Cleveland acquiring Brock Osweiler

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 12:43:26 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler, a 2017 sixth-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick are being sent to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2017 fourth-round pick, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Texans are now primed to either trade for or sign Tony Romo. This would be an upgrade for DeAndre Hopkins and company, while the Browns' passing game still remains untouchable, aside from Terrelle Pryor if he is re-signed. Stay tuned Houston to sign Romo, but continue to ignore Osweiler and Robert Griffin III for fantasy purposes.

Texans | Brock Osweiler has support

Thu, 02 Feb 2017 19:46:36 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler has all the traits to be a successful quarterback, according to retired head coach Gary Kubiak, and Kubiak said Osweiler is "going to be fine" in the long run.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Kubiak's optimism, Osweiler likely played himself into a quarterback competition with his poor performance this season. Even if he breaks camp as the starter, he doesn't need to be drafted.
