Ravens | Ray Rice suspended two games

Thu, 24 Jul 2014 07:24:17 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice will be suspended for the first two games of the season, according to sources. The announcement is expected Thursday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Rice rates as a mid-to-low RB2 after he misses the first two games. Bernard Pierce will likely take over in Rice's stead and should continue to see looks when he returns. Pierce is a low-end RB3 or a good RB4.

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (shoulder) said he has been fully cleared following his rotator cuff surgery in the offseason. Pierce also said he is down to 223 pounds.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce at practice

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 13:19:47 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (shoulder) practiced Tuesday, July 22. Head coach John Harbaugh is pleased with his medical progression.

Ravens | Pending Ray Rice suspension may force RBBC

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 10:58:12 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice's pending suspension may cause the Ravens to take a running back-by-committee approach. RB Bernard Pierce would be the likely front runner, with RBs Justin Forsett , Lorenzo Taliaferro, Cierre Wood and Fitzgerald Toussaint in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to gauge these players' values because we don't know how long Rice will be suspended, if he is suspended. Assuming Rice does receive a three- or four-game suspension, Pierce would fall in high-end RB3 to low-end RB2 range for that period of time, while Rice's season-long value would take a big blow and spiral him into RB3 or flex territory.

Ravens | Ray Rice important to offense

Fri, 14 Feb 2014 15:30:13 -0800

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak thinks it's paramount that the team get RB Ray Rice going again in 2014 if the offense is going to be successful. Kubiak is expected to employ a run-first offense in a zone-blocking scheme, meaning Rice will receive plenty of opportunities. "Our goal is to get him going, and he's excited to get going and put last year behind him," Kubiak said. Kubiak plans to share the touches between Rice and RB Bernard Pierce.

Ravens | John Harbaugh suggests Ray Rice isn't healthy

Mon, 11 Nov 2013 14:58:24 -0800

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said RB Ray Rice (hip) health has been a big factor in his disappointing season so far. Rice's longest run of the season is for 14 yards, and he's averaging just 1.62 yards per tote on 29 carries since he said he was healthy coming out of the Week 8 bye. Harbaugh suggested he may ride the hot hand out of the backfield as the season progresses.

Fantasy Tip: Rice is more of an RB2 or 3 if this keeps up. Bernard Pierce hasn't been very effective, either, thanks to a struggling offensive line.

Ravens | Ray Rice says he hasn't lost a step

Thu, 07 Nov 2013 09:22:16 -0800

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice said he hasn't lost a step this season and said he's healthy, despite having 97 carries for only 259 yards this year, good for an average of 2.7 yards per carry. The Ravens rank 29th in the league in rushing offense. "If you watch the film, you'd understand that we've been playing pretty good fronts," he said. "We've got eight games left, and that's my focus now." A hip flexor strain in Week 2 limited his explosiveness, but he said he's been feeling fine in recent weeks. RB Bernard Pierce has averaged only 2.7 yards per carry, too, as the offensive line has struggled to open running lanes all year.

Fantasy Tip: Rice's disappointing season is probably a combination of his early season injury and the offensive line struggling. You have to remember that Rice has plenty of mileage on his legs, too, so he may finally be starting to see the effects of that. The second half of the season offers some hope, though, as he faces some weaker run-stuffing units down the stretch.

Ravens | Change offensive scheme

Tue, 22 Oct 2013 09:41:55 -0700

The Baltimore Ravens changed up their offensive scheme, with QB Joe Flacco running more plays from the shotgun and spread formations in Week 7. "We wanted to do a little of that and see if we could keep them on the field and run them around a little bit," Flacco said. The Ravens also ran the no huddle offense. These moves opened up the running game, and the team was able to establish the run with more success. RB Ray Rice had 15 carries for 45 yards and RB Bernard Pierce had six carries for 13 yards. The Ravens averaged 3.2 yards per carry.

Sun, 29 Sep 2013 08:45:40 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) is active for the team's Week 4 game.

Fantasy Tip: Rice missed last week because of the injury but is healthy enough to get on the field this week. Since he is coming back from injury, he probably will share carries with Bernard Pierce during the game. Owners should see Rice as no worse than a flex option for Week 4.

Mon, 23 Sep 2013 13:37:23 -0700

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said RB Ray Rice (hip) has a chance to play Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to monitor his practice participation this week to get a better idea of his status for the game. If he does play, he should be in the starting lineup but may be more like a No. 2 running back because he could lose some carries to Bernard Pierce.

Ravens | Ray Rice believed to have two-week injury

Sat, 21 Sep 2013 09:32:32 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) may sit out the next two weeks to make sure his hip injury has time to heal. RB Bernard Pierce is expected to start while Rice is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known how long Rice will be out, but Pierce likely will be the main running back until Rice returns. Pierce should be owned in all fantasy leagues and will be a No. 3 running back or flex option while Rice is out.

Ravens | Ray Rice doubtful for Week 3

Fri, 20 Sep 2013 12:27:33 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) is listed as doubtful for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Rice will sit out the game because of the hip injury he suffered Week 2. If Rice does miss the game, Bernard Pierce should get a majority of the carries. Pierce should be considered as a low-end No. 2 running back or flex option for Week 3.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce has bulked up

Sun, 07 Jul 2013 20:47:03 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce has bulked up 10 pounds since last season to 228 pounds. He has always preferred to run through defenders, rather than around them, but is working on battling that natural tendency to plow straight ahead. While RB Ray Rice remains entrenched as the feature back, Pierce's workload is expected to increase this year. He averaged 6.75 carries per game in 2012. However, the team is not planning to dramatically alter how they divide up the playing time.

Ravens | Ray Rice wants to be smart

Tue, 25 Jun 2013 11:24:32 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice said he has to be smart about not trying to do too much as he gets older. "Going into Year 6, you have to be smart," Rice said. "I know I have a lot of football left, but the name of the game is longevity for me now. I've proved I can be a Pro Bowl player and I still know I can go out there and make many more Pro Bowls. Part of the lesson you learn is being smart and realizing you can't go out there and do it all on your own. For me, I'm in a great situation, I've a got a young back in Bernard Pierce and we can share the load. But I know when it's a crucial situation, like a fourth down or a big third down, I go out there and make as many plays as a I can."

Ravens | Ray Rice cool with potential plan

Tue, 25 Jun 2013 08:20:33 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice said he's fine with RB Bernard Pierce seeing a few more carries.

Fantasy Tip: It was reported earlier in the offseason Rice was taking on more of a leadership role, and this supports that. Rice's carries shouldn't take a big hit, but his effectiveness could improve with less exposure to hits.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce could push for more carries

Sun, 23 Jun 2013 10:01:51 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce could push RB Ray Rice for more carries this season. The team could consider rotating the running backs during games to make sure both stay fresh.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce had a solid rookie campaign and could receive even more carries if he does well during training camp. Rice will still receive a majority of the carries, but Pierce will still have fantasy value this season. He could be a No. 4 running back on a fantasy team.
