Rays | Several TB regulars return to lineup

Sun, 01 May 2016 07:24:10 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF/DH Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are back in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman Sunday, May 1. In addition, C Hank Conger is starting behind the plate in place of Curt Casali, batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: The left-handed-hitting Miller, Dickerson and Morrison were rested for Saturday's game because the Rays were facing a left-handed pitcher. Although Miller is batting below .200 for the season, he is 6-for-13 with two doubles and a home run over the past week and is worth considering as a value play in daily fantasy games. Dickerson is hitless in his last 12 at-bats and Morrison is batting just .100 through his first 60 at-bats, so both players should be avoided this afternoon.

Rays | Hank Conger losing playing time

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:36:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Hank Conger has just four hits in 22 at-bats and opposing runners have stolen 48 straight bases off of him dating back to last season. Conger is also having trouble blocking pitches in the dirt. C Curt Casali is starting at catcher over Conger Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: The Rays value their defense, so Conger could start losing significant playing time to Casali behind the plate. Neither catcher is very attractive outside of two-catcher formats, though.

Rays | Desmond Jennings, Curt Casali out

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:16:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings and C Curt Casali are not in the starting lineup against the New York Yankees Sunday, April 24. OF Corey Dickerson will bat cleanup and play left field, OF Steven Souza Jr. will bat seventh and play right field and C Hank Conger will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Souza is off to a decent start this year, batting .275 with three home runs and eight RBI in his first 51 at-bats. On the other hand, Conger is just 4-for-22 at the plate and has also struggled defensively, so he should be avoided for the foreseeable future in all formats.

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Saturday, April 23. C Hank Conger will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Conger is hitting only .200 in his limited playing time this season and probably should be avoided in all leagues.

Rays | Hank Conger to start Wednesday

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:52:58 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Hank Conger will make the start behind the plate Wednesday, April 20, against the Boston Red Sox with C Curt Casali getting a rest.

Fantasy Tip: Conger is worth a look in DFS play for his minimal salary. His inclusion in your lineup will open up more salary to spread across deeper positions with more offensive potential.

Rays | Curt Casali, Hank Conger to split duties

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 12:53:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays Cs Curt Casali and Hank Conger will split the catching duties close to 50-50 this year, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't a big surprise. Casali has some power potential, but his lack of consistent playing time and weak contact profile limit him to deep AL-only and two-catcher leagues. Conger is bad on defense but excels against right-handed pitchers. A cheap daily catcher maybe, but not much else.

Rays | Curt Casali lands on DL

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 12:33:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Wednesday, Aug. 26, and the Rays called up C J.P. Arencibia from Class AAA Durham in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: With Casali on the shelf, expect the Rays to use a combination of Rene Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and Arencibia at catcher. Neither backstop is very valuable in any fantasy format, although Arencibia did manage 22 home runs and 65 RBI for Durham this year.

Rays | Curt Casali exits early

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 20:39:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali (hamstring) left the game Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the Minnesota Twins due to a strained left hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has emerged as a cheap source of power for FantasyScore players. Wait to see him officially return before pulling the trigger on him again.

Rays | Rene Rivera catching Sunday

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 12:53:54 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera will bat ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Sunday, Aug. 23. C Curt Casali will receive a scheduled day off.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is 8-for-23 (.348) during the month of August with a double and an RBI, and merits consideration for FantasyScore lineups that need a productive catcher at a low cost.
