Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill impressing

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 06:34:02 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has looked sharp so far in training camp, according to Chris Perkins, of the Sun-Sentinel. Tannehill's accuracy has improved, which is an indication of enhanced footwork.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill is a fringe QB1 in standard leagues but may take some time to acclimate to his new receiving corps.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill showing leadership

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 13:48:21 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill considers himself a big leader in the Dolphins' organization. WR Kenny Stills said Tannehill has put the team on his shoulders and is letting them know that everyone must work hard every day to be successful.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill is coming off a career year in which he threw for over 4,000 yards and 27 touchdowns. Tannehill has the weapons to have an even better season in 2015 and is a borderline QB1.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill likes WR corps

Wed, 27 May 2015 08:25:28 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill praised his largely rebuilt wide receivers corps Tuesday, May 26, saying this is the most athletic group he has worked with in the NFL. He also praised them for being natural hands-catchers.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill's receiving corps from the top to bottom, including tight end, has been completely redone, with the lone exception being 2014 rookie standout WR Jarvis Landry, the likely slot guy. Tannehill needs to build chemistry with his targets, but he is right -- this is easily the most athletic group he has worked with in his short NFL career. Fantasy owners are looking at a risky low-end QB1 or an ideal No. 2 target whose ceiling is vaulted.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill contract breakdown

Thu, 21 May 2015 09:09:51 -0700

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will earn $12.2 million in 2015, but only $745,000 of it will be in base salary. His 2016 base salary of $9.34 million is fully guaranteed. In 2017, the Dolphins will have five days into the league year to decide whether to fully guarantee his $17.47 million base salary, which essentially gives the Dolphins an opt-out if Tannehill struggles to meet expectations over the next two seasons. His contract contains no guaranteed money in 2019 and 2020, other than the prorated signing bonus in Year 5, so Miami could save $17 million in 2019 and $18 million in 2020 by releasing him.

Fantasy Tip: The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero said Dolphins executives looked at him like he had a horn growing out of his forehead when he asked what happens if Tannehill flops, which illustrates how much confidence the organization has in their young passer. Tannehill's 2015 season could get off to a rocky start with all of the offensive turnover possibly needing more time build chemistry, but there's no denying his new receiving corps is more explosive than the 2014 cast. He is a fringe QB1.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill signs extension

Mon, 18 May 2015 13:13:01 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill signed an extension through the 2020 season Monday, May 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill isn't exactly a top-tier fantasy quarterback, but this is a hefty extension for the young quarterback coming off a career year. With guys like Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills, Greg Jennings and Jordan Cameron at his disposal, he's safely in the top-15 fantasy quarterback conversation.

Dolphins | Future bright for Ryan Tannehill?

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 19:48:29 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is coming off his best season as a pro, and the team has added WR Kenny Stills, WR Greg Jennings, WR DeVante Parker and TE Jordan Cameron in the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill turned out to be a low-end QB1 last year, and with added firepower at his disposal and another year of experience under his belt, he should at least be able to duplicate his results in 2015. He is a great quarterback to target if you decide to pass on the high-end QB1 options in fantasy drafts.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill's option picked up

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 18:09:41 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill had his fifth-year option picked up Wednesday, April 29, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. The option is worth $16 million for 2016 and is fully guaranteed only in the event of an injury. The Dolphins plan to work out a long-term deal prior to the season opener.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill will enter the season as a top-15 quarterback and will be a late-round option in fantasy drafts. That said, if Tannehill is able to take the next step in his development, it's not out of the question for him to perform as a top-10 player at his position.

Dolphins | Miami waiting on Ryan Tannehill option

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 11:17:29 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's fifth-year option has yet to be picked up. The deadline for the option to be picked up is Sunday, May 3. "Look, Ryan is here, we're excited he is here, we haven't made any decisions yet," vice president Mike Tannenbaum said. "We know when the deadline is and we'll make those decisions when we get there. The fifth-year option for 2016 is worth about $15 million.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins could still give Tannehill a long-term extension if they don't want to pick up his option. Tannehill had the best season of his career in 2014. A receiving corps of Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings, not to mention Jordan Cameron and Charles Clay at tight end, should give Tannehill plenty of opportunities to succeed. He has QB1 potential but should still be considered a QB2 at this point.

Dolphins | MIA unsure on Ryan Tannehill extension

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:15:26 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is a player the team has not decided on if they will sign to a contract extension at this point, according to executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill likely will be a candidate for a contract extension at some point, but it may not happen until later in the offseason. Tannehill posted career highs in passing yards with 4,045 yards and in touchdowns with 27 in 2014. Tannehill probably will not be an every-week starter in 2015 but should be a solid option against certain matchup.

Dolphins | Miami wants to lock up Ryan Tannehill

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 19:41:19 -0700

The Miami Dolphins are committed to getting a contract extension done with QB Ryan Tannehill before the start of the regular season. However, there have been no formal discussions between Tannehill's representatives and the Dolphins since the NFL Scouting Combine. If a new deal cannot be reached, the team can still exercise his fifth-year option to keep him under control through the 2016 season. He would be paid roughly $16 million for 2016 under that scenario.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill posted a team record for completions in 2014, and he will now have Mike Pouncey protect him for a while after the center signed an extension. The Dolphins believe Tannehill can be a franchise quarterback, but fantasy owners should still consider him in the middle-third of all NFL starters at his position.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill may have option picked up

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 15:55:59 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's fifth-year option will be picked up if the team is not able to sign him to a contract extension over the next six weeks, according to sources. Tannehill would make $16 million in 2016 if his option is picked up. It is believed the Dolphins have talked about signing Tannehill to a six-year deal worth more than $100 million.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill play very well this past season and will look to build on his success next season. He will have some different weapons to work with next season, and it is not known if that will affect his performance much. Tannehill probably will be a starting option on FantasyScore against certain teams next season.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill wants Mike Wallace back

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 11:03:39 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said he cleared the air with WR Mike Wallace, and the two have no problem. Tannehill said he wants Wallace to return, and the team will consider Tannehill's input when they make their decision on Wallace.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is being difficult with Miami, as he's said he won't restructure his current contract. The Dolphins could save quite a bit of cash if they decide to cut Wallace outright. It may be in Miami's best interests to retain Wallace, however, if at least for the sake of Tannehill's future after they already cut Brandon Gibson and Brian Hartline. Wallace had a disappointing 2014 season, but he still managed 67 catches for 862 yards and 10 touchdowns. A move away from Miami probably wouldn't hurt his fantasy value. Stay tuned.

Dolphins | Still comfortable with Ryan Tannehill

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 23:11:51 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill still has a backer in general manager Dennis Hickey, who admitted average salaries for starting quarterbacks are going up but the team is still high on Tannehill as a starter.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill should be a safe bet for starting in 2015 fantasy leagues. Rumors are the team is working on a long-term agreement with Tannehill that could pay him between $15 million and $18 million a season, which would place him among the top earners. The team could sour on Tannehill just like the Chicago Bears did on Jay Cutler, but for now Tannehill appears to be a strong bet.

Thu, 12 Feb 2015 23:17:56 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and his contract extension will be a big priority in the offseason, but the Dolphins plan to secure a solid backup quarterback in free agency. Fantasy Tip: Tannehill should be in consideration for low-end QB1 territory in 2015 fantasy drafts.

Dolphins | Offensive line hurting Mike Wallace?

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 19:24:39 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace was targeted mainly on shorter passes in Week 13, and Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald believes the injury to OT Branden Albert (knee) has forced the Dolphins to use shorter passing routes to help protect QB Ryan Tannehill.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has yet to record a 100-yard game this season, but he has scored seven touchdowns and leads the team in receiving yards. Facing a Baltimore defense ranked 31st against the pass in Week 14, Wallace ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is worth considering at FantasyScore.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has completed at least 70 percent of his passes in six of his last eight games, including four straight, heading into the team's Week 13 game Monday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill is enjoying a breakout season, and a big part of his progression has been improved accuracy. After completing 60.4% of his passes last year, he is currently completing 66.1% of his passes this season. He is a weekly QB1 option right now.

Thu, 27 Nov 2014 12:15:15 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill threw three touchdowns in Week 12 and has been playing well this season. Tannehill costs $6,000 on FantasyScore and should be a good option since the New York Jets allow the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill listed as probable

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 15:07:55 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 21, but he is probable for Week 12 against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Because the Broncos have often jumped out to big leads, opposing QBs have been successful against them with 18.21 fantasy points per game. That bodes well for Tannehill ($6,000). Perhaps this is the first game that sees him go over 300 yards?

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 15:50:19 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill ($6,000) isn't a terrible play at FantasyScore, especially if the Dolphins are playing catch-up and go to the air often against the Denver Broncos. Something else to consider: The Broncos are allowing an average of 18 fantasy points to QBs in their last four contests.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill, who'll cost you $6,000 (12.0% of cap) isn't a bad play in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos. Denver allows 18.21 fantasy points per game to opposing signal callers. The Dolphins could be forced to throw early and often, making Tannehill a wise QB selection at FantasyScore.

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 11:59:28 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in Week 10 but is considered probable to return.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill thriving in recent weeks

Thu, 23 Oct 2014 10:53:05 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has completed 72 percent of his passes for 799 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions since the team refused to name him the starter heading into their Week 4 game. Several reasons account for this, starting with the fact that offensive coordinator Bill Lazor has reduced long passing plays, and he has installed more of the read-option play. Tannehill also has proven that he can step up in the face of pressure and adversity. He threw 12 touchdown passes and five interceptions in five games after the team's 2013 bullying scandal. The biggest factor this year, though, has been Lazor tailoring the offense to Tannehill's strengths. The team has averaged 5.9 yards per play on 254 snaps where Tannehill has been the focal point. In the 148 snaps where he hasn't been, the team averages 4.5 yards per play. Tannehill is also protecting the ball much better, and he's on pace to turn the ball over 13 times this year, compared to 22 times last season.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has become a low-end QB1 in standard leagues, and he makes for an excellent backup option down the stretch. In Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tannehill is an excellent option for $6,400 (12.8% of cap), if you're looking to save a little money at quarterback.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill not throwing deep

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 11:00:06 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has completed five of his 18 passes that have gone for at least 20 yards this season and is on pace to throw only 48 deep passes this season. Tannehill has thrown 58 play-action passes and is on pace to throw more than the 90 play-action passes he throw last season. He has an 87.6 passer rating on play-action passes.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has been able to post solid passing numbers even though he has not completed many deep passes this season. Tannehill has a price of $6,400 on FantasyScore and could be a starting option this week.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill running more

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 10:59:24 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has rushed for 150 yards on 22 carries so far this season, after rushing only 40 times for 238 yards in the entire 2013 season. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor has been willing to call the read option more often.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has been playing better the last few weeks and has rushed for at least 35 yards in his last three games. Tannehill costs $6,400 on FantasyScore and could be an option for owners looking to save a bit of money.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill thrives in reduced system

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 07:27:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was effective in a scaled-back offense that utilized short-to-intermediate throws and reduced the number of troubling deep throws Sunday, Oct. 19. He was 25-for-32 for 277 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 7 game and rushed six times for 48 yards. He completed his first 14 passes to open the game for the second time in three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has had three consecutive strong performances and faces Jacksonville next weekend. Look for him to be a potential value buy on FantasyScore in Week 8.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Oct. 17, and is probable for Week 7 against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill ($6,400; 12.8% of cap) has looked much better in his last few games. However, the Bears haven't been very friendly to opposing quarterbacks this year. You may be better off looking for other options.

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 15:39:40 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 16, after being limited Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill should be good to go against the Chicago Bears in Week 7. On the road against the Bears, though, should make you hesitant to pay $6,400 (12.8% of cap) for him to be in your FantasyScore lineup.

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 20:36:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) was listed as a limited participant for practice Wednesday, Oct. 15, due to an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: Check back on Tannehill Friday for his official status. He has a favorable matchup in Week 7 against a banged up Chicago Bears secondary, and his $5,900 salary (or 11.8 percent of cap) makes him a somewhat attractive play in FantasyScore if healthy.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace not just deep threat

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 07:12:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace leads the team in receptions (20), receiving yards (246) and touchdowns (three). However, the deep ball hasn't been a big part of his game, in large part because QB Ryan Tannehill has struggled with them. He also leads the receivers with 34 targets. After dropping 12 passes in 2013, he has just two in four games.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is on a bye this week, but he is proving to be worthy of a WR3 spot on FantasyScore.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill completed 23 of his 31 pass attempts for 278 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders in London.

Fantasy Tip: During the week, head coach Joe Philbin had refused to name Tannehill as his starter, making headlines. It appears Tannehill is one again back in the coach's good graces after this win and solid performance. However, he is still nothing more than a low-end QB2 in most deeper fantasy leagues.

Dolphins | HC reassures Ryan Tannehill

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 20:15:02 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and head coach Joe Philbin met this week to get clarity on the starting quarterback situation, and Philbin reassured Tannehill that he is the starter for Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders, even though publicly the coach has not backed his quarterback in public.

Fantasy Tip: The Oakland Raiders rank fourth in the NFL against the pass, allowing just 183.3 yards per game with zero pass plays of 40 or more yards allowed. Tannehill could continue to struggle for his shrinking legion of fantasy owners. At this point, he is only worth using in deeper leagues which require two starting signal callers.

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 11:42:03 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said he will be the starting quarterback in Week 4 even though head coach Joe Philbin is still not ready to name the starter.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill could be on a short leash since Philbin still will not acknowledge he is the starter for the game. Tannehill costs $6,600 on FantasyScore this week, but owners should consider selecting another quarterback.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is scheduled to start this weekend in London against the Oakland Raiders despite head coach Joe Philbin repeatedly not committing to Tannehill as the starter.

Fantasy Tip: This is the week for Tannehill to prove he deserves to be the starter. The Raiders have given up four passing touchdowns and just one interception to quarterbacks so far this year.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill starter status still in flux

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 14:17:13 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill may still be on thin ice as head coach Joe Philbin was again noncommittal regarding the quarterback starting Week 4. "At the end of the week, we're going to pick the 46 guys that give us the best chance to win the game in London," Philbin said Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has really struggled through three weeks this season. It may be time to bench him until he proves he's worthy of being started.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill not guaranteed start

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 10:17:10 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is not guaranteed to be the starting quarterback in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders after head coach Joe Philbin declined to name a starter for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Moore would get the chance to start if the team decides to make a change at quarterback. Owners will need to monitor the situation to get a better idea as to which one will start. Tannehill could be an option on FantasyScore for owners looking to save some money at quarterback, but neither quarterback is a great option to use.

Dolphins | Dolphins struggling to execute offense

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 10:25:31 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill struggled to deliver accurate passes in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, and TE Charles Clay had several dropped passes. Tannehill was 5-for-16 (31 percent) on third downs, and the team was sluggish in the running game. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor likes to spread the field and create one-on-one matchups, but the Dolphins might not have the talent to run his schemes the way they were meant to be designed.

Fantasy Tip: It was only the team's second game under Lazor as the new offensive coordinator, so this is something that is a work in progress. Tannehill's big arm will produce big games, but he's more of a matchup play for the time being.
