Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill thrives in reduced system

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 07:27:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was effective in a scaled-back offense that utilized short-to-intermediate throws and reduced the number of troubling deep throws Sunday, Oct. 19. He was 25-for-32 for 277 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 7 game and rushed six times for 48 yards. He completed his first 14 passes to open the game for the second time in three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has had three consecutive strong performances and faces Jacksonville next weekend. Look for him to be a potential value buy on FantasyScore in Week 8.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill probable

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 14:27:28 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Oct. 17, and is probable for Week 7 against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill ($6,400; 12.8% of cap) has looked much better in his last few games. However, the Bears haven't been very friendly to opposing quarterbacks this year. You may be better off looking for other options.

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 15:39:40 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 16, after being limited Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill should be good to go against the Chicago Bears in Week 7. On the road against the Bears, though, should make you hesitant to pay $6,400 (12.8% of cap) for him to be in your FantasyScore lineup.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill has limited practice

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 20:36:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) was listed as a limited participant for practice Wednesday, Oct. 15, due to an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: Check back on Tannehill Friday for his official status. He has a favorable matchup in Week 7 against a banged up Chicago Bears secondary, and his $5,900 salary (or 11.8 percent of cap) makes him a somewhat attractive play in FantasyScore if healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill is a new addition to the practice report this week, but he still should be good to go for Week 7. The Dolphins quarterback will cost you $6,400 in FantasyScore. You can probably find better options available to you at that price.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace not just deep threat

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 07:12:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace leads the team in receptions (20), receiving yards (246) and touchdowns (three). However, the deep ball hasn't been a big part of his game, in large part because QB Ryan Tannehill has struggled with them. He also leads the receivers with 34 targets. After dropping 12 passes in 2013, he has just two in four games.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is on a bye this week, but he is proving to be worthy of a WR3 spot on FantasyScore.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill quiets critics

Sun, 28 Sep 2014 19:57:55 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill completed 23 of his 31 pass attempts for 278 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders in London.

Fantasy Tip: During the week, head coach Joe Philbin had refused to name Tannehill as his starter, making headlines. It appears Tannehill is one again back in the coach's good graces after this win and solid performance. However, he is still nothing more than a low-end QB2 in most deeper fantasy leagues.

Dolphins | HC reassures Ryan Tannehill

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 20:15:02 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and head coach Joe Philbin met this week to get clarity on the starting quarterback situation, and Philbin reassured Tannehill that he is the starter for Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders, even though publicly the coach has not backed his quarterback in public.

Fantasy Tip: The Oakland Raiders rank fourth in the NFL against the pass, allowing just 183.3 yards per game with zero pass plays of 40 or more yards allowed. Tannehill could continue to struggle for his shrinking legion of fantasy owners. At this point, he is only worth using in deeper leagues which require two starting signal callers.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill says he will start

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 11:42:03 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said he will be the starting quarterback in Week 4 even though head coach Joe Philbin is still not ready to name the starter.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill could be on a short leash since Philbin still will not acknowledge he is the starter for the game. Tannehill costs $6,600 on FantasyScore this week, but owners should consider selecting another quarterback.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill scheduled to start

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 15:29:51 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is scheduled to start this weekend in London against the Oakland Raiders despite head coach Joe Philbin repeatedly not committing to Tannehill as the starter.

Fantasy Tip: This is the week for Tannehill to prove he deserves to be the starter. The Raiders have given up four passing touchdowns and just one interception to quarterbacks so far this year.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill starter status still in flux

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 14:17:13 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill may still be on thin ice as head coach Joe Philbin was again noncommittal regarding the quarterback starting Week 4. "At the end of the week, we're going to pick the 46 guys that give us the best chance to win the game in London," Philbin said Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has really struggled through three weeks this season. It may be time to bench him until he proves he's worthy of being started.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill not guaranteed start

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 10:17:10 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is not guaranteed to be the starting quarterback in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders after head coach Joe Philbin declined to name a starter for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Moore would get the chance to start if the team decides to make a change at quarterback. Owners will need to monitor the situation to get a better idea as to which one will start. Tannehill could be an option on FantasyScore for owners looking to save some money at quarterback, but neither quarterback is a great option to use.

Dolphins | Dolphins struggling to execute offense

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 10:25:31 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill struggled to deliver accurate passes in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, and TE Charles Clay had several dropped passes. Tannehill was 5-for-16 (31 percent) on third downs, and the team was sluggish in the running game. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor likes to spread the field and create one-on-one matchups, but the Dolphins might not have the talent to run his schemes the way they were meant to be designed.

Fantasy Tip: It was only the team's second game under Lazor as the new offensive coordinator, so this is something that is a work in progress. Tannehill's big arm will produce big games, but he's more of a matchup play for the time being.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace works extra

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 12:23:33 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace stayed after practice to work with QB Ryan Tannehill.

Fantasy Tip: Big things are expected from Wallace and Tannehill this year under new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. It's encouraging that the two are working overtime to get better. Wallace should be drafted as a low-end WR2 in non-PPR leagues while Tannehill provides sleeper potential as a QB2.

Sun, 10 Aug 2014 20:05:14 -0700

"We just taught him how we want it to be. We explained it to him," Lazor said. "We gave him some drills on how to get it. And he worked his butt off, he's working his butt off to get it right."

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill, Mike Wallace struggling deep

Wed, 06 Aug 2014 05:31:33 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is struggling on deep balls thrown to WR Mike Wallace (hamstring) so far in camp. Wallace said his hamstring injury is still limiting him in reaching top speed. The two converted just six of 36 passes of 20 or more yards last season.

Fantasy Tip: There is plenty of time for the two to find a rhythm. Wallace is a great WR3 or a low-end WR2 in fantasy. Tannehill is a QB2 with upside to sneak into QB1 range.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill with a couple of rough days

Tue, 05 Aug 2014 07:01:28 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has thrown three interceptions in practice each of the last two days.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has plenty of promise this season and could eventually sneak into weak-QB1 territory. However, he's better served as a QB2.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill and Mike Wallace connect

Fri, 25 Jul 2014 08:44:28 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and WR Mike Wallace connected on a deep throw on the first day of training camp Friday, July 25. According to Omar Kelly, the two connected on one deep ball in five weeks during last year's camp activities.

Fantasy Tip: A positive note from someone paid to watch such things. Bill Lazor's new offense and another year of experience between the two could lead a fantasy rebound for both this season, making them fine buy-low candidates.

Dolphins | Will look to compete more deep passes

Wed, 26 Mar 2014 13:10:00 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said completing deep passes will be one of the team's focal points moving forward, because Ryan Tannehill completed only six of his 36 passes to WR Mike Wallace that traveled 20 yards or more. "Some of it's timing between the guys. Some is ball location. Some is the receiver being in the exact right spot. We've got to increase our explosive plays. We've got to score more points. We just have to. [Deep balls are] a part of it. It's not the only part. We've sliced up those routes and studied why and how. We definitely addressed that."

"I'm excited," Tannehill said. "He's a fun guy to work with. Just his personality coming in seems like it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to when we can get into learning the offense. I'm just waiting on that date …. I'm really looking forward to taking a big step this year." Tannehill is not able to meet with Lazor yet because of NFL offseason rules.

Philbin reportedly professed his belief in Moore to several of the team's general manager candidates. "He definitely wants to push Tannehill more," said one source who has spoken to Philbin about the quarterbacks, "and if he doesn't see improvement he said he might go to Moore at some point. He definitely has a lot of faith in Moore, and they're paying him a lot of money."

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has been up and down this season, but his offensive line isn't doing him any favors. If they play like they did last weekend, it will be another very long afternoon against the New York Jets in Week 17. There isn't much upside for Tannehill in the season finale.
