Broncos | Ronnie Hillman likely out in Denver

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 16:47:14 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman has fallen to No. 3 on the depth chart, and "it would be a surprise" if they elected to pay the remaining $1.4 million on his contract, according to reporter Mike Klis.

Fantasy Tip: Hillman's drop down the depth chart has been swift and dramatic, going from No. 1 early last year to falling behind C.J. Anderson and rookie Devontae Booker this summer. He's bound to get a look by another running back-needy team if or when he is released, perhaps as depth behind Frank Gore with the Indianapolis Colts. His next landing spot will obviously determine if he has any fantasy value.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman to work on special teams

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 06:52:22 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is expected to play on some special teams units during the preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers Saturday, Aug. 20, because he is competing for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: Hillman probably needs to play well in the final three preseason games if he wants to make the final roster. He will see limited playing time if he makes the team and will not have much value in fantasy leagues. Devontae Booker is probably the backup to draft if owners are looking for a C.J. Anderson handcuff.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman has competition for job

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 19:03:29 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is facing a battle for a roster spot, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. He is getting competition from rookie RB Devontae Booker and RB Kapri Bibbs for the right to back up starter RB C.J. Anderson. Hillman is expected to see plenty of action in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the San Francisco 49ers. "Ronnie is in a battle, a helluva a battle with Kapri and Book right now," Kubiak said Monday, Aug. 15. "There's no way around that. I'm just being honest with you."

Fantasy Tip: Hillman might need to play more special teams and excel in the role to keep his spot on the roster. He posted 863 yards and seven touchdowns last season while adding 24 receptions. If he makes the team he is a solid handcuff to Anderson, but wait to see how the preseason plays out before risking a late-round fantasy pick on him.

Broncos | Two Denver backs listed as co-backups

Mon, 08 Aug 2016 16:00:31 -0700

Denver Broncos RBs Ronnie Hillman and Devontae Booker are listed as co-backups behind RB C.J. Anderson in Denver's initial depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Booker has more upside, but Hillman's experience and versatility may give him more playing time out of the gate. The rookie should be drafted higher, though, but only for depth in traditional leagues. Hillman has been given plenty of chances and hasn't really run away with the opportunities, pun intended.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman back at practice

Wed, 03 Aug 2016 15:52:03 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (back) participated in practice Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Hillman is working on keeping the No. 2 running back job but is being pushed by Devontae Booker for the job. He probably will be a late-round option in fantasy leagues if he is the primary backup but likely will not be used much by owners.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman sits out Monday

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 10:22:03 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (back) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Hillman probably should be considered day-to-day because of the injury, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He is the No. 2 running back on the roster at this point, but he could be pushed by Devontae Booker during camp. Hillman should be an option in the late rounds of drafts.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman tweaks back

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 18:18:51 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (back) left practice and jogged to the locker room Sunday, July 31, after taking a hard hit to his back.

Fantasy Tip: The injury doesn't sound too serious, but Hillman's fantasy value is on shaky ground as he tries to hold off Devontae Booker to be the main backup to C.J. Anderson. For now, Hillman is only worth a late-round pick.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman may not make team

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 09:27:40 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman could be in jeopardy of not making the final roster if he can't contribute more on special teams during training camp.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Devontae Booker is in prime position to supplant Hillman as C.J. Anderson's backup, but it's not set in stone. Unless Anderson or Booker are injured before the season starts, Hillman's fantasy value will remain minimal. He can be left on waivers or taken as a deep flier in later rounds at best.

Broncos | Ronnie Hillman the favorite for backup

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 14:37:26 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is still ahead of RB Devontae Booker to back up RB C.J. Anderson, according to Andrew Mason of RB Kapri Bibbs will also compete with Hillman and Booker for backup duties.

Fantasy Tip: Denver will try to run the ball frequently this year, but the fantasy value of Booker and Hillman is minimal at this point. Booker probably has more upside, too, despite Hillman currently being ahead of him. Don't view either as more than an RB4, though.

Broncos | Devontae Booker to push for RB2

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 05:45:28 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (knee) ran well after he recovered from a torn meniscus and appears poised to push RB Ronnie Hillman, who has the inside track for the No. 2 running back job.

Fantasy Tip: The backup role in Denver could be a fruitful one considering that C.J. Anderson had the job handed to him last year, and he didn't run with it. Booker is a big back that should be used in the red zone regardless and is an RB5 consideration. Hillman's asset is pass protection, which doesn't really translate into fantasy. He's an RB5 option, too.
