Eagles | Kenjon Barner the No. 2

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 06:46:21 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenjon Barner has made it clear that he is the No. 2 running back behind RB Ryan Mathews, according to beat writer Reuben Frank. He has rushed 13 times for 76 yards in the first two preseason games.

Fantasy Tip: Barner may be the No. 2, but Darren Sproles is the second back to own in fantasy - especially in PPR leagues. Mathews does have a decorated injury history, which could make Barner a factor. However, he doesn't have much upside beyond a RB5 handcuff for now.

Eagles | Kenjon Barner focused, working hard

Thu, 04 Aug 2016 14:04:57 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenjon Barner is in noticeably better shape and is having a solid training camp. Barner is focused on improving, not on the coaching change that occurred with head coach Doug Pederson now at the helm. "You can't worry about a situation that's no longer your situation," Barner said. "My situation right now is Doug Pederson and this offense." Barner has seen increased repetitions with RBs Ryan Mathews (ankle) and Wendell Smallwood (quadriceps) nursing injuries. He's trying to prove he has the durability to withstand a larger workload while his counterparts are sidelined.

Fantasy Tip: Barner is part of a fairly crowded backfield in Philadelphia with Mathews, Darren Sproles and Smallwood all likely ahead of him currently. Barner is a valuable return man, though, and may see more opportunities in the passing game considering his physique and agility. For now, view Barner as a late-round option with more upside in PPR leagues.

Eagles | Kenjon Barner on the bubble

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 23:10:57 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenjon Barner is on the bubble as RB Byron Marshall projects as a younger version of him.

Fantasy Tip: A caveat will be if the team trades Darren Sproles, which opens a spot for Barner. For now, Barner has no fantasy luster unless something changes. Marshall could be an RB5 flyer.

Eagles | Running back committee in Philly?

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 12:12:05 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews has taken most of the first-team repetitions out of the backfield this offseason, but RBs Kenjon Barner and Darren Sproles shared those reps with Mathews, too. Head coach Doug Pederson expects a committee with those three backs and RB Wendell Smallwood.

Fantasy Tip: Mathews should still be the first Philadelphia running back taken in fantasy drafts, at least for standard formats. Sproles is a PPR delight and is worth a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 spot in those formats.

Eagles | Kenjon Barner working with starters

Mon, 30 May 2016 02:51:57 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Kenjon Barner has been working with the starters during OTAs with RB Ryan Mathews (groin) slowed by injury and RB Darren Sproles not participating, and beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks believes Barner's edge over Mathews in speed and agility could earn him the starting job permanently.

Fantasy Tip: Mathews could still end up seeing a lot of the early-down work, but Barner is worth grabbing in the later rounds, especially in PPR leagues. He could end up being a sneaky flex option.

Eagles | Darren Sproles to be traded?

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 10:50:05 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles could be traded this offseason, in the opinion of NJ.com's Elliot Shorr-Parks. Shorr-Parks views Sproles as a logical and likely trade candidate, with Ryan Mathews and Kenjon Barner as the two running backs who will make the final roster.

Fantasy Tip: Sproles would be a valuable asset to any NFL backfield, and it would make sense for the Eagles to trade him if they want another draft pick after trading away so many for the No. 2 overall pick this year. Mathews figures to be the primary ball carrier for now, and he has RB2 upside if he can stay healthy.
