Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) enters training camp on the mend for the second time in three years. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Week 15 last year. He has surgery and is targeting a Week 1 return. He may not see any contact until then, and the team likely will be very careful with him to get the type of impact this season he had last season.

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu's contract talks have been put on hold, but that doesn't mean a deal won't be reached before training camp, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. If a deal is reached, it's expected to be worth around $11 million per season, which would make him the highest-paid safety and put him among the highest-paid defensive backs.

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) said he doesn't necessarily want to play if he's only at 90% health when the regular season begins. Mathieu's goal was to return by the regular season opener Sept. 11, but he doesn't want to make the mistake of coming back too early, which he said he did when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in 2013. Mathieu did say his rehabilitation is going as planned so far, though, but he wants to come back properly.

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu's contract extension is complicated by the fact that he plays free safety, strong safety and cornerback and would have a different franchise tender depending on his listed position. "I truly believe deep down in my heart that something will get done," Mathieu said. "It's not one of those things that's easy. It's going to take a little bit of time. I don't necessarily have a true position, so there's different things that go into it."
