Buccaneers | Doug Martin back with team

Mon, 17 Apr 2017 06:27:18 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has completed rehab and re-joined the team for offseason conditioning.

Fantasy Tip: Martin's status with the team is dicey, and he still has three games to serve in his suspension. He'll be an RB3 with bounce-back potential at best in fantasy drafts.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to work out with team next week

Sun, 09 Apr 2017 12:56:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is expected to be with the team for the start of offseason workouts Monday, April 17, according to Florida Football Insiders' Roy Cummings.

Fantasy Tip: According to Cummings, Martin has been to and apparently completed a drug rehabilitation program, and the team is apparently "all good" with the situation at the moment. While Buccaneers may still very well add a running back in the draft later this month, they didn't do so in free agency, signaling they have at least a little bit of faith Martin can recapture his old form. With that said, Martin remains a question mark to make the roster this summer and must sit out the first three games of the season if he does.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to be featured?

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 17:52:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head Dirk Koetter said it is hard to feature two running backs in an offense, and offensive coordinator Todd Monken said he is looking forward to having RB Doug Martin back. "It will be great getting a guy like Doug back to where he was that will add to that explosion, because we just didn't have that in the run game last year, with all the injuries," Monken said. "We had six different guys carry the ball last year."

Fantasy Tip: Despite Monken's optimism, there is no guarantee Martin will even be back with the team, let alone be an effective starter. He will also be suspended for the first three games, so his fantasy value is up in the air at this point.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin out of rehab

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 10:03:50 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin completed his stay at an undisclosed rehab center in February, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud. He will still miss the first three games of the 2017 season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy in December.

Fantasy Tip: There's been much speculation that Martin won't even make it to training camp based on his injury history and the fact there is no guaranteed money left on his contract. If Tampa Bay uses an early pick on a runner next month, it's a good bet he'll need to find another job, as the Bucs like Jacquizz Rodgers and value Charles Sims as a weapon in the passing game.

Buccaneers | No quick decision coming on Doug Martin

Wed, 01 Mar 2017 18:31:40 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is unlikely to find out his fate regarding his status with the team anytime in the near future, according to head coach Dirk Koetter. "Doug's under contract right now and no decision has to be made on that right now, so we don't have to rush it. … But one of the things high on our list is what's going to happen with our running back situation? But we don't have to make a decision on that right now," Koetter said.

Fantasy Tip: Martin signed a five-year deal worth $35.75 million last offseason, but his late-season PED drug suspension allows the team to void the rest of his guaranteed money ($7 million) and cut him without much incident. The Bucs are high on Jacquizz Rodgers and should be considered one of the favorites to add a running back in one of the first three rounds of the NFL Draft next month. If they do, expect Martin to be released shortly thereafter.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin still in Bucs' plans?

Thu, 16 Feb 2017 10:23:54 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin was expected to be released or traded before the 2017 NFL season, but the front office may be willing to keep Martin around and "play the situation out," according to Roy Cummings, of Martin is suspended the first three games of 2017 and will not cost the team any money if he is indeed released.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is coming off his worst season as a pro and has a lengthy injury history. Unless the draft or free agency bears a better option, he may stick around. Tampa could look to restructure his deal with incentives, as well. For fantasy purposes, assuming he is retained, Martin is a shaky RB3 in most setups.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin on his way out?

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 09:41:17 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is not part of the short- or long-term plans of the Buccaneers, in the opinion of Rick Stroud, of the Tampa Bay Times. Martin signed a five-year, $33.75 million contract, with $15 million guaranteed, in March of 2016, but that guaranteed money is voided because of his four-game suspension after testing positive for Adderall.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is an injury waiting to happen, and at age 28, prospective teams have to consider him to be little more than a risky stopgap or committee component. His fantasy value should not exceed midrange RB2 on draft day in any setting.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin's guarantee will be void

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 13:44:04 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin's four-game suspension will make void his $7 million in guaranteed money next year, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This stipulation certainly puts Martin's future with the Bucs in jeopardy. He'll focus on his personal issues before trying to get his mind back on football, no doubt, but Jacquizz Rodgers and Charles Sims could take over Tampa Bay's backfield next year.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin suspended

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 13:26:23 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's drug policy. Martin will begin the suspension immediately and enter a treatment facility.

Fantasy Tip: This gives a little more clarity to Martin's situation. He'll serve his suspension and return to the Buccaneers early on next season. As stated earlier, Jacquizz Rodgers is not a bad starting option in PPR formats this week with Martin and Charles Sims both out.
