Thu, 30 Oct 2014 11:13:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (ankle) is not participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 30.

Fantasy Tip: It does not look like Martin will be able to play in Week 9. Bobby Rainey probably would receive the start, but Charles Sims could also receive some work during the game. Rainey costs $3,900 on FantasyScore and could be a flex option.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin and Vincent Jackson stay

Tue, 28 Oct 2014 13:10:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin and WR Vincent Jackson were not traded as the NFL trade deadline passed Tuesday, Oct. 28, despite several rumors leading up to the deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Martin's value will take a hit when Charles Sims returns from Reserve/Injured. Jackson is still the team's best receiver but is losing targets to rookie Mike Evans. Either one might be worth trading for the right price in your fantasy league.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin expects big game soon

Sat, 11 Oct 2014 08:22:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin said he believes the team's running attack is close to having a breakout game. "Yeah, there's been times where it's definitely been close," Martin said. "These guys work hard. They work their butts off in practice. Everyone [holds] each other accountable for this. We're going to get it going and I can't wait until it happens. [I'll] Just continue what I do just run the ball hard, follow my keys and just keep going hard like I do."

Fantasy Tip: Martin should receive most of the work at running back in Week 6. Martin costs $4,600 on FantasyScore and could be a solid flex option for owners.

Buccaneers | Bucs have faith in Doug Martin

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 13:30:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is averaging just 2.5 yards per carry this year, but quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo, who is acting as the interim play-caller, is happy with the play of Martin. "I like the things Doug has done," Arroyo said. "Our run game has to improve, obviously, overall. We believe that as a staff that starts with us. I think wholeheartedly we need to continue to find out what exactly it takes to get us back on track in the run game. There's going to be some finer points, detail and those things execution-wise." Arroyo doesn't mind giving RB Bobby Rainey carries, but he believes that Martin is still the team's leading running back.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is cheap this week at FantasyScore ($4,700; 9.4% of cap). He's worth consideration against the Baltimore Ravens if you're looking for an under-the-radar option.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin carries load

Sun, 28 Sep 2014 15:32:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) was active in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he led the team with 14 carries, 40 yards and a touchdown. He also hauled in two passes for 16 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Martin looked fine, although it was tough sledding against a decent rush defense. It appears he is ready to resume his status as No. 1 tailback in Tampa, and he is once again a solid RB2 or flex play in most fantasy leagues.

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 12:45:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) fully practiced Friday, Sept. 26, and is probable for Week 4.

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 15:07:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 25.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin expects to play

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 11:17:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) said he expects to return in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "The knee's coming along just fine," Martin said. "Full go in practice, and I expect to play in this upcoming game." RB Bobby Rainey started in the backfield for the two games that Martin missed.

Fantasy Tip: Martin could be a bargain at $5,900 (11.8% of cap) in his first game back at FantasyScore, but he remains a risk. How much will he split with Bobby Rainey if he's not back to full strength?

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 10:57:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) said he back to full strength and he is anxious to get back on the football field and prove he is an impact player.

Fantasy Tip: Martin will cost you $5,600 (11.80% of cap) in FantasyScore this week. While the price is affordable, it may take some time for Martin to get back into game shape. Also, Bobby Rainey will likely continue to get a lot of work. Look elsewhere this week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: While it is good news that Martin is practicing in full, he may be a risky play in FantasyScore this week because of the injury and the potential of splitting carries with Bobby Rainey. Look elsewhere this week.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin inactive

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 16:01:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) is officially inactive Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Bobby Rainey will get the majority of the workload out of the backfield and is seemingly a steal at $4,700 on FantasyScore against a weak Atlanta Falcons defense.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin not expected to be involved

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 13:34:49 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) may not be active in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Sept. 18. If he is active, he's not expected to be involved much in the game plan.

Fantasy Tip: If you needed something else to persuade you not to put Martin in your lineup, this is it. Bobby Rainey should see a heavy workload, and his price at FantasyScore ($4,700) is worth considering.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin unlikely to play

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 09:43:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) is unlikely to play in the team's Week 3 game due to a knee injury, according to a league source. Martin will test the knee out pregame to be sure.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Martin should not be considered in FantasyScore. Bobby Rainey was scheduled to get the start anyway, and may see even more work if Martin is indeed ruled out. With a FantasyScore price of $4,700 (9.4% of cap), Rainey is a great option.

Buccaneers | Bobby Rainey to start

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 07:33:34 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey will start in Week 3. The decision is not primarily because of RB Doug Martin's (knee) injury, but also because the team really likes Rainey.

Fantasy Tip: Martin will still be involved, but his stock in the near term has fallen considerably. Rainey ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap) is a better play on FantasyScore than Martin ($5,900; 11.8%) right now.

Buccaneers | Tampa to use RB committee

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 06:20:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) and RB Bobby Rainey are expected to split carries in Week 3 and in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has more upside than Rainey, but Rainey has the hot hand. Martin ($5,900; 11.8% of your cap) and Rainey ($4,700; 9.4%) are good flex options this week on FantasyScore. Rainey might be the better play of the two with Martin coming off of an injury.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin questionable

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 11:09:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has a good chance to play in Week 3 but could be limited because of the injury. Martin costs $5,900 on FantasyScore this week, but may be too expensive for owners since he could share reps with Bobby Rainey during the game. At $4,700 on FantasyScore, Rainey could be a better option to use.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin limited at practice

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 14:10:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) was limited at practice for the second straight day Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: All signs are pointing to Martin playing in Week 3 Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, but how many touches he'll see remains to be seen, especially after Bobby Rainey performed well in his absence in Week 2. It seems foolish to play Martin for $5,900 at FantasyScore when you could go with the much safer play in Rainey for $4,700.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin should play in Week 3

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 07:41:01 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) has a good chance to play in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football. The team held him out of the Week 2 game to ensure that he would be ready for Week 3 at Atlanta. RB Bobby Rainey, who had 22 carries for 144 yards in Week 2, could be heavily involved as well.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned this week for further details on how much of a timeshare we can expect moving forward.

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 09:52:07 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) will be inactive for the team's Week 2 game.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin could miss Week 2

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 09:44:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) will test his injured knee during pregame warmups, but he appears to be a longshot to play at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Bobby Rainey likely would see most of the time at running back if Martin is not able to play. Rainey would be a solid option on FantasyScore, because he would only cost $3,700. Rainey would also be useful in point-per-reception leagues.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin iffy to play

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 09:35:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) is unlikely to play Sunday, Sept. 14, in the opinion of beat writer Tom Krasniqi. RB Bobby Rainey is expected to see more action in Week 2, regardless of Martin's status.

Fantasy Tip: Martin might be too risky to play ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap on FantasyScore) at this point. Rainey is a solid bargain buy ($3,700; 7.4%) as a flex option for Week 2.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin endorsed by coach

Sat, 13 Sep 2014 20:23:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) is still the team's lead back, head coach Lovie Smith said Friday, Sept. 12. Smith also refuted reports that Martin was benched in Week 1 because he missed an assignment in pass protection.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is expected to play in Week 2 despite a knee injury, and it looks like he will at least have another shot to prove he can be the workhorse in the backfield. As long as he suits up, Martin should earn enough touches to put together a solid stat line, and he is a very affordable option at the running back position on FantasyScore with a salary of $4,700 (9.4% of cap).

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 13:18:44 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 12, and is questionable for Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has an attractive FantasyScore price of $4,700 (9.40% of cap), but he could be a risky play if he is not at full strength. It may be smart to look elsewhere this week.

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 11:10:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) returned to practice Thursday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Tip: It is great news that Martin is back on the practice field as the team gets ready for Week 2, but it may be hard to justify Martin's FantasyScore price of $4,700 (9.40% of cap), especially if he is limited.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin fine physically

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 14:38:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin's (leg) leg injury in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers wasn't the reason why he wasn't on the field during crunch time late in the game, according to head coach Lovie Smith. "Bobby Rainey had come and had given us a little bit of life, and as I've mentioned we want to play more than one running back throughout. So it was just a perfect time to keep both of them involved," Smith said. Martin is physically fine, despite having nine carries for just nine yards in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Rainey is worth considering for a waiver wire addition in standard leagues, as he may see more work moving forward, especially if Martin is ineffective. Martin's FantasyScore salary against the St. Louis Rams in Week 2 is affordable ($4,700; 9.4% of cap), but you have to wonder if he presents you with the best bang for your buck in what could become more of a committee approach.

Buccaneers | No update on Doug Martin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (leg) was not in the team's open locker room Tuesday, Sept. 9, and there was no update from the team on his status after suffering a leg injury in the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: We probably will not get an update until the first practice report of the week is issued on Wednesday. With a FantasyScore price of $4,700 (9.40% of cap), it is probably smart to look elsewhere until we know more about his Week 2 status.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (leg) had his lower left leg wrapped after the Week 1 game against the Carolina Panthers. He said Sunday, Sept. 7, that someone rolled his leg. He will wait to see on the severity of his injury.

Fantasy Tip: If Martin is forced to miss time, FantasyScore players will want to check out Bobby Rainey in Week 2. He would be the best bet to carry the mail if Martin is inactive.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin leaves game

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 14:52:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) left the game in the third quarter of the Week 1 game against the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Sept. 7, due to an apparent knee injury. He was being checked on the trainer's table on the sideline before eventually walking on his own power to the locker room for further evaluation.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners hope this isn't it for Martin in Week 1, as he has just nine rushes for nine yards and one grab for seven yards. It has been a disappointing day against Carolina's sturdy rush defense.

Wed, 03 Sep 2014 09:19:03 -0700

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed RB Charles Sims (ankle) on the Active/Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Sims will miss at least half of the season and may not have much value in fantasy this season. Doug Martin likely will get most of the work at running back while Sims is sidelined.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims to short-term IR

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 08:26:08 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaners RB Charles Sims (ankle) is expected to be placed on the Active/Reserve/Injured list. The club liked what they saw in the offseason and believe he could be back in midseason.

Fantasy Tip: Until Sims comes back, Doug Martin should dominate passing-down work and be at minimum a high-end fantasy RB2. Sims could be worth a fantasy roster spot when he does return because of his explosiveness.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin the bell cow

Thu, 21 Aug 2014 21:49:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaners RB Doug Martin was called the team's "bell cow" running back by head coach Lovie Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Smith continues to make it clear that Martin is his main back despite wanting to rotate in other backs more often this season. Meanwhile, a shoulder injury to Mike James and ankle surgery for Charles Sims should further ensure that Martin continues to receive a heavy workload and remains a potential RB1.

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 13:15:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Bobby Rainey, Mike James, Charles Sims and Jeff Demps will be vying for carries behind RB Doug Martin in training camp. Martin is the team's starting running back, but the team wants to use a rotation in the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Martin clearly is the starter and should be drafted as an RB1. However, they'll look to spell him when they can. Stay tuned for who stands out as his primary backup during training camp and the preseason.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin will not have lesser role

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 10:38:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith said RB Doug Martin will not have a lesser role on offense this upcoming season but did say the team will be using more than one running back in order to keep players healthy.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Martin likely will get most of the work at running back at 2014 but will be coming off the field at times. Martin should be considered a starting running back in all leagues and likely will be drafted in one of the first few rounds.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: Tampa Bay Times - Greg Auman

Buccaneers | Charles Sims' likely role

Fri, 30 May 2014 06:22:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is the most likely among the backups to have a weekly role behind starter Doug Martin, in the opinion of Scott Smith, because of Sims' ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Martin will probably cede a few carries and third-down work to Sims.

Fantasy Tip: Mike James and Bobby Rainey profile more closely to handcuff status because of the underrated power in their games. One of them may be a cut candidate. Sims is a decent late-rounds PPR gamble but is unlikely to be considered top dog if Martin were to struggle or suffer an injury. As for Martin's fantasy value, he should still get the lion's share on his way to low-end RB1 numbers; he has plenty of rebound potential.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (shoulder) said he has been medically cleared to participate in football activities.

Fantasy Tip: Martin likely will be the team's starting running back in 2014 as long as he can stay healthy. Owners should consider him as a starting running back in all fantasy leagues.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to be bell cow

Mon, 31 Mar 2014 09:22:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith expects RB Doug Martin to be the team's leading rusher again this season. "I think you have to have a bell cow," Smith said. "(Martin) is ours. At the running back position, there's enough reps to go around. We want three guys we feel comfortable with. Two will play, but it's not a rotation that where every series we're going to have a different guy in there. We'll have a starter, then we'll have a backup that will give him quality backup minutes."

Fantasy Tip: Mike James and Bobby Rainey filled in nicely for Martin when he was out last year, but they aren't your prototypical lead backs. Martin is, and this news should have been expected if he was fully healthy. He'll likely come at a cheaper price this year as your RB1.
