Chargers | SD counting on more from Ladarius Green

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 16:41:14 -0700

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green will be asked to do more in 2015, especially with TE Antonio Gates suspended for the first four games of the season. Green impressed in the team's preseason game over the weekend, moving the chains on third down and even looking like Gates during one play in which he used his size against a backup safety. He also had a key block later in the game to spring RB Branden Oliver for an 11-yard gain. Green will receive more snaps this year if he can continue to improve on his blocking, something that was a weakness last season.

Fantasy Tip: Green was a big disappointment last year for fantasy owners that expected him to leapfrog Gates as Philip Rivers' go-to pass-catching tight end. Green has a real chance to bounce back and earn more playing time to kick off the season, but he still remains nothing more than a sleeper pick as your backup tight end in 2015.

Chargers | Ladarius Green ready to play

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 09:10:24 -0700

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green said he is ready to fill in for TE Antonio Gates while he serves his four-game suspension. "I'm always ready to make plays because you never know when it's your time to go out and make them for the team," Green said.

Fantasy Tip: Green could be a sleeper option in the first four weeks for fantasy owners since he probably will see a good amount of targets. Owners could consider Green as a late-round option in drafts but should have another tight end on the roster that they can use for the entire season.

Chargers | Philip Rivers talks Ladarius Green

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 15:28:17 -0700

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green is expected to take on an increased role in 2015, especially with the four-game suspension of fellow TE Antonio Gates. "[Green has] looked really good and he needs to be a bigger part [of the offense]," Rivers said. "We need to have him be a weapon for us because he could be a heck of a matchup for us against some defenses."

Fantasy Tip: Green certainly has the size (6-6, 240 pounds) to create those mismatches. Green will start the first four games for the Chargers this season due to Gates' suspension. Those are the games in which Green could put himself past the hump he's been trying to get over throughout his three-year career. Overall, Green should be considered a low-end TE2.

Chargers | Ladarius Green playing faster

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 14:52:34 -0700

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green has looked faster than he's ever been, according to QB Philip Rivers. Rivers said he believes the main reason Green is playing faster is because he's more confident and feels more comfortable with the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Green will be starting in place of Antonio Gates for the first four games of the season. He hasn't done much in his three-year career so far, but the size and talent are there. He may be worth starting while Gates is suspended and could end up as a TE2 at season's end.

Chargers | Ladarius Green likely will start

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 12:22:43 -0700

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green likely will be the starting tight end with TE Antonio Gates being suspended for the first four games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Green has shown promise in previous years but did not put up great stats last season. Owners could consider Green as a short-term starter in fantasy leagues but should not count on him as a weekly starting option.

Chargers | Ladarius Green to see more touches?

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 14:51:51 -0700

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green may be more involved in the offense this year, according to QB Philip Rivers. "I hope and I think we all agree that he needs to be a bigger part of [the offense] as we move forward this year," Rivers said. "We need to have him be a weapon for us because he'll be a heck of a matchup for us on some defenses."

Fantasy Tip: Green was one of the bigger, if not the biggest, fantasy disappointments at tight end last year. He was supposed to take the baton from Antonio Gates, but Gates is the one that produced. Gates will still be the San Diego tight end to own in 2015, but Green is a great handcuff and has the potential to break out.

Chargers | Ladarius Green a work in progress

Fri, 02 Jan 2015 14:20:26 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green had just two more catches this year (19) than he did last year, but he also failed to find the end zone in 2014 after catching three touchdown passes in 2013. Green missed two games this year due to various ailments, which limited his role in the offense. He played in just 274 snaps (27% of the team's offensive snaps) this year compared to 350 offensive snaps last season. "I've got a lot to work on, from route-running, to blocking and catching -- everything," Green said, when asked about his offseason plays. "It could have been a lot better. I was hurt. I've got to try and stay healthy. And I've got to try and do what I can for the team. I've still got a lot to improve on."

Fantasy Tip: As long as Antonio Gates continues to be an offensive force like he was this year, Green's opportunities and fantasy value will be inconsistent. Heading into the 2015 season, consider Green nothing more than a midrange backup tight end with upside.
