Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts likely to play Sunday

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 12:12:25 -0700

Updating a previous story, Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) will likely return to the lineup for the series finale against the Houston Astros on Sunday, April 24, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Owners already know Bogaerts isn't in the lineup Saturday, so he shouldn't be considered an option in fantasy for this afternoon's game. Although he is far from a lock to start Sunday night, the fact Farrell appears optimistic bodes well for an early-week return next week, even if he sits through the weekend.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts won't hit Saturday

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 10:47:05 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) will not hit Saturday, April 23, but he will throw in order to see if he can be used as an emergency option on defense. He has strength in his wrist after being hit by a pitch Friday, April 22, although he lacks flexibility and mobility.

Fantasy Tip: It is probably safe to say that Bogaerts won't be able to start Sunday, April 24, if he hasn't been cleared to resume hitting yet. INF/OF Brock Holt is expected to see most of the playing time at shortstop while he is sidelined.

Red Sox | Brock Holt starting at shortstop

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 10:06:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox INF/OF Brock Holt is batting sixth and starting at shortstop against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers Saturday, April 23. SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) is out of the lineup after he was hit in the wrist area by a pitch Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: The versatile Holt has been serving primarily as Boston's left fielder but has also seen action at shortstop in 2016. He would likely remain at the position if Bogaerts is forced to miss an extended period of time. Holt is batting .286 with two home runs and 10 RBI through his first 42 at-bats and makes a decent option in daily fantasy games this afternoon.

Red Sox | Brock Holt appears at SS again

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:49:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt finished up at shortstop Friday, April 22, against the Houston Astros after SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) checked out early.

Fantasy Tip: Holt saw a few games at shortstop last season, and might be available there in fantasy leagues with lax eligibility requirements. For most others, he has two games there this season and might become eligible there soon, adding to his fantasy appeal.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts leaves game

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:47:50 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) left the game Friday, April 22, against the Houston Astros after being hit in the wrist area by a pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a double and 2-out RBI before departing. Avoid him in fantasy leagues which allow daily moves and DFS play until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks. Brock Holt shifted from left field to shortstop for the second time this week with Bogaerts departing early.

Red Sox | Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts with big games

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 16:29:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-6 with a run scored, double, home run and two RBI in the loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, April 21. Pedroia was a triple shy of the cycle. SS Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a run scored, walk and two doubles.

Fantasy Tip: Pedroia has a hit in all but two of the games he's played this year. Despite an increased ground-ball percentage, he has looked fine. Pedroia remains a fantasy starter at second, but his power numbers could be down considerably. Bogaerts injured himself last night but looked just fine today to ease any concerns his owners may have.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts back in there

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 08:03:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (quadriceps) is back in the lineup Thursday, April 21, after he was lifted the previous day with a quadriceps issue.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts is just 4-for-23 (.174) the last seven days, but he's a daily option at the position against Jake Odorizzi.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts day-to-day

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 18:47:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (quadriceps) left the game against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, April 20, due to tightness in his left quadriceps. He is listed as day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts is off to a slow start at the plate this year, batting .228 with one home run and eight RBI through his first 14 games, although he was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's contest. Brock Holt replaced him at shortstop and he could see the bulk of the action at the position if Bogaerts is sidelined for a while.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts could hit cleanup

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 16:49:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is an option to hit cleanup after 1B David Ortiz, according to manager John Farrell. Bogaerts went 0-for-3 from the cleanup spot Monday, March 14, and is 4-for-17 in seven spring games. "He's a smart kid," said hitting coach Chili Davis. "He's not there to be a different hitter; he's there because he's earned it. We don't want him to change a thing, just keep learning."

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts' breakout in 2015 will raise his price this year, so be wary. He has good speed and makes good contact, but too many ground balls caps his power upside. Don't pay for a lock of double-digit home runs this season. Some regression should be expected.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts adjusts workouts

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 15:12:11 -0800

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts adjusted his workouts to focus on sprints and movement as opposed to adding bulk.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts had just seven home runs last year, and he is only 23 years old, so the feeling is the power may eventually come. He should be considered in the middle of AL drafts and the later rounds of mixed drafts while his power is down.
