Wed, 06 Aug 2014 11:16:23 -0700

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum has a small lead over QB Tom Savage for the No. 2 quarterback job, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. "Right now I'd still say Case is a little bit ahead of Tom," O'Brien said. "I'd say Tom's improving. I think Tom's definitely improving. It's a battle, it's definitely a competitive battle, but Case is still slightly ahead of Tom." O'Brien said he believes the backup quarterback for the team is currently on the roster.

Texans | Case Keenum looking to work with Andre Johnson

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 10:20:03 -0700

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum will spend the next month learning the new offensive system and reviewing his mistakes from 2013 action. Texans | Still no official starting quarterback

Fri, 13 Jun 2014 12:00:04 -0700

The Houston Texans finished organized team activities Friday, June 13, without a starting quarterback. QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, T.J. Yates and rookie Tom Savage are competing for three roster spots. Fitzpatrick, who is expected to start Week 1, had a "decent offseason" and has done well picking up a new offense, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. Savage hasn't been ruled out for the No. 2 position.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever ends up being the starter in Houston won't be worthy of starter status on your fantasy team. He'll be a bye-week replacement at best.

Texans | Case Keenum, T.J. Yates could be on bubble

Mon, 09 Jun 2014 11:05:25 -0700

The Houston Texans likely would release QB Case Keenum or QB T.J. Yates if they decide to take only three quarterbacks to training camp, because QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tom Savage appear to be locks for the roster.

Texans | QB competition wide open

Tue, 27 May 2014 14:37:25 -0700

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is saying that right now, after the first day of organized team activities Tuesday, May 27, the quarterback competition is wide open between QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, T.J. Yates and Tom Savage. The team will look to make sure all of the quarterback repetitions are equal for all four quarterbacks, but they'll look to narrow the focus as the season approaches.

Fantasy Tip: Realistically, this job will come down to Fitzpatrick and Keenum, or whoever performs better this summer and in training camp. Neither QB would be more than a matchup play as a weak QB2, though.

Wed, 11 Dec 2013 23:29:08 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has a 57.2 completion percentage that ranks only ahead of New York Jets QB Geno Smith (55.4 percent), Houston Texans QB Case Keenum (54.3) and Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden (52.8). However, Kaepernick is not worried because of the team's 9-4 record. "We won, and that's all that matters," Kaepernick said following his team's win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Texans | Case Keenum practices in full

Wed, 11 Dec 2013 14:55:57 -0800

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum (shoulder) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Keenum took the league by storm when he initially replaced Matt Schaub as the starter in Houston but since then, the rest of the league has adjusted to his strengths. Wade Phillips as the head coach will likely hurt his development, too. Keep him on your bench during the fantasy playoffs.

Texans | Case Keenum named starter

Fri, 06 Dec 2013 10:12:37 -0800

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum will be the starter for the rest of the 2013 season, according to team owner Bob McNair. The team wants to use the final three games of the season to evaluate Keenum.

Fantasy Tip: The league has adjusted quickly to Keenum, who has failed to reach 200 yards passing in three of his last four games. He's a backup option at best but does present you with low-end QB1 value if the matchup is right.

Texans | Not committing to Case Keenum

Wed, 13 Nov 2013 12:26:26 -0800

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he isn't committed to QB Case Keenum starting the rest of the team's regular season games. "He has to continue to play well to stay in there," Kubiak said.

Fantasy Tip: The Texans are in the midst of a lost season, so we doubt Matt Schaub will get another chance unless Keenum tanks in a few games or is injured. Keenum isn't a bad midrange QB1 if you're starter is injured or on bye.

Texans | Case Keenum impresses

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 10:52:44 -0800

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum impressed in the team's disappointing Week 9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He showed his willingness to attack the defense deep and displayed a nice connection with WR Andre Johnson, tossing him three touchdown passes. Keenum made the right reads, had nice pocket presence and showed a quick release.

Fantasy Tip: Keenum went 20-for-34 for 350 yards and three touchdowns against the Colts. He has shown a very strong arm and is extremely athletic moving around and outside the pocket. He's a decent bye-week filler or second quarterback in two-QB leagues.

Texans | Matt Schaub returns to practice

Mon, 28 Oct 2013 10:44:31 -0700

Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Oct. 28, but will be the backup quarterback to QB Case Keenum in Week 9 versus the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub should be left to the waiver wire for now. He could win the starting job back if Keenum struggles, but with his ankle likely not being 100 percent for the rest of the year, we wonder how effective he'd be if he's at the helm of the offense again.

Texans | Case Keenum shows well in first NFL action

Sun, 20 Oct 2013 20:10:39 -0700

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum not only made his first NFL start in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, it was his first regular season game action. He completed 15 of his 25 pass attempts for 271 yards, one touchdown and, perhaps most importantly, no interceptions. He did fumble twice, losing one to the Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Keenum certainly looked good in his first start, and might be a solid QB2 in fantasy leagues going forward as long as he continues to start.

Texans | Case Keenum could play more than one week

Sun, 20 Oct 2013 07:28:41 -0700

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak "loves" QB Case Keenum and the team could stick with him for more than one week. "Gary loves him," said one source close to Kubiak. "He's extremely cerebral. He doesn't have that big arm but he fits their mold -- he can extend plays and get out of the way. He understands the system. That's going to be a tough environment but he shows a pulse and moves the team some, I bet he sticks with him after the (Week 8) bye."

Texans | Case Keenum to start

Thu, 17 Oct 2013 11:44:35 -0700

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum will start in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Keenum put up big numbers in college, but the spread offense he ran back then isn't employed in Houston, so he isn't likely to see success immediately. This doesn't mean that Matt Schaub (ankle) is benched, however; he's dealing with an ankle injury and hasn't practiced this week. Keenum should not be started anywhere.

Texans | Matt Schaub very sore

Wed, 16 Oct 2013 13:44:13 -0700

Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle) is very sore and his leg remains swollen Wednesday, Oct. 16. He hasn't been ruled out for Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and the team may wait until game day to announce a starter. QBs T.J. Yates and Case Keenum took first-team repetitions Wednesday. Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said Keenum has come a long way since his rookie year, and he seems to be in line to start against KC.

Fantasy Tip: Although Houston won't acknowledge it yet, it seems Schaub is a long shot to play this weekend. Yates and Keenum aren't worthy of consideration for your fantasy squad.

Texans | Matt Schaub heard ankle pop

Tue, 15 Oct 2013 09:46:42 -0700

Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle) said he heard his ankle pop when he was injured during the team's Week 6 game. "It popped and must've come out and come back in place. … It could have been drastically worse," said Schaub, who was forced to leave the game and was replaced by backup QB T.J. Yates. Schaub said his ailment affects his ankle and foot, and he's still hoping to play against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. If he can't go, either Yates or QB Case Keenum will suit up.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound promising right now that Schaub will be able to return in time to take on one of the better defenses in the NFL. That tough task will likely fall to Yates, instead. If you own the Chiefs defense, you're sitting pretty.
