Buccaneers | Bobby Rainey to start

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 07:33:34 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey will start in Week 3. The decision is not primarily because of RB Doug Martin's (knee) injury, but also because the team really likes Rainey.

Fantasy Tip: Martin will still be involved, but his stock in the near term has fallen considerably. Rainey ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap) is a better play on FantasyScore than Martin ($5,900; 11.8%) right now.

Buccaneers | Tampa to use RB committee

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 06:20:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) and RB Bobby Rainey are expected to split carries in Week 3 and in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has more upside than Rainey, but Rainey has the hot hand. Martin ($5,900; 11.8% of your cap) and Rainey ($4,700; 9.4%) are good flex options this week on FantasyScore. Rainey might be the better play of the two with Martin coming off of an injury.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin should play in Week 3

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 07:41:01 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) has a good chance to play in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football. The team held him out of the Week 2 game to ensure that he would be ready for Week 3 at Atlanta. RB Bobby Rainey, who had 22 carries for 144 yards in Week 2, could be heavily involved as well.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned this week for further details on how much of a timeshare we can expect moving forward.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin iffy to play

Sun, 14 Sep 2014 09:35:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) is unlikely to play Sunday, Sept. 14, in the opinion of beat writer Tom Krasniqi. RB Bobby Rainey is expected to see more action in Week 2, regardless of Martin's status.

Fantasy Tip: Martin might be too risky to play ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap on FantasyScore) at this point. Rainey is a solid bargain buy ($3,700; 7.4%) as a flex option for Week 2.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin fine physically

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 14:38:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin's (leg) leg injury in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers wasn't the reason why he wasn't on the field during crunch time late in the game, according to head coach Lovie Smith. "Bobby Rainey had come and had given us a little bit of life, and as I've mentioned we want to play more than one running back throughout. So it was just a perfect time to keep both of them involved," Smith said. Martin is physically fine, despite having nine carries for just nine yards in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Rainey is worth considering for a waiver wire addition in standard leagues, as he may see more work moving forward, especially if Martin is ineffective. Martin's FantasyScore salary against the St. Louis Rams in Week 2 is affordable ($4,700; 9.4% of cap), but you have to wonder if he presents you with the best bang for your buck in what could become more of a committee approach.

Fri, 15 Aug 2014 13:15:15 -0700

Buccaneers | Mike James running with twos

Sat, 26 Jul 2014 14:36:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James is working with the second-team offense Saturday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: It's still early, and Bobby Rainey could still figure into the mix at the No. 2 RB. Whichever player wins that role will likely have RB4 or RB5 value.

Buccaneers | Several players may be on bubble

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 23:31:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey, OG Carl Nicks and DE Da'Quan Bowers may be fighting for roster spots once training camp begins, due to increased competition for their jobs. TE Luke Stocker and S Kelcie McCray were also mentioned.

Buccaneers | Want to use rotation at RB

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 13:15:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Bobby Rainey, Mike James, Charles Sims and Jeff Demps will be vying for carries behind RB Doug Martin in training camp. Martin is the team's starting running back, but the team wants to use a rotation in the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Martin clearly is the starter and should be drafted as an RB1. However, they'll look to spell him when they can. Stay tuned for who stands out as his primary backup during training camp and the preseason.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims' likely role

Fri, 30 May 2014 06:22:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is the most likely among the backups to have a weekly role behind starter Doug Martin, in the opinion of Scott Smith, because of Sims' ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Martin will probably cede a few carries and third-down work to Sims.

Fantasy Tip: Mike James and Bobby Rainey profile more closely to handcuff status because of the underrated power in their games. One of them may be a cut candidate. Sims is a decent late-rounds PPR gamble but is unlikely to be considered top dog if Martin were to struggle or suffer an injury. As for Martin's fantasy value, he should still get the lion's share on his way to low-end RB1 numbers; he has plenty of rebound potential.
