Giants | Orleans Darkwa playing catch-up

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 19:21:53 -0700

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa (leg) missed the entire spring practice sessions due to a lower leg injury, and that set him back in the pecking order among the team's tailbacks. He is expected to battle RB Andre Williams for the No. 3 job, while RB Bobby Rainey is also in the mix. The team invested a fifth round pick on RB Paul Perkins, so he is expected to make the team, too.

Fantasy Tip: The winner of the No. 3 job will be behind Rashad Jennings and Shane Vereen on the depth chart, so they can mostly be avoided in all fantasy leagues initially.

Giants | Bobby Rainey to sign with NYG

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 17:43:37 -0700

Free-agent RB Bobby Rainey (Buccaneers) announced Sunday, April 10, that he has agreed to sign with the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Rainey's main contributions will likely come on special teams, and he would need a few injuries to backs ahead of him before he would have any fantasy value.

Dolphins | Bobby Rainey visits Miami

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 14:10:14 -0700

Free-agent RB Bobby Rainey (Buccaneers) visited the Miami Dolphins Thursday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Well, so much for the Dolphins possibly being done at the running back position. They already signed Isaiah Pead today, and right now he would likely back up Jay Ajayi. Miami doesn't seem to be comfortable with their depth at running back yet after losing Lamar Miller and missing out on C.J. Anderson. As it stands, Ajayi is in RB2 territory but will take a little bit of a hit if/when more running backs are signed.

Buccaneers | Bobby Rainey signs tender

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 15:42:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers restricted free-agent RB Bobby Rainey signed his one-year tender offer Friday, April 24. Rainey will make $1.542 million in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Rainey receive some playing time this past season and rushed for 406 yards and one touchdown in 15 games. Rainey may be given the chance to compete for the starting running back job during training camp but likely is not more than a late-round pick in fantasy drafts at this point.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin has backer in Lovie

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 17:18:01 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has a supporter in head coach Lovie Smith. Smith said the team hasn't "seen the true Doug Martin yet." Smith also said RB Bobby Rainey is the current starting punt returner.

Fantasy Tip: Rainey hasn't done much since his outstanding rookie year in 2012 (1,454 yards, 11 touchdowns), mainly because of injuries. He'll have to contend with Rainey and Charles Sims in the backfield in 2015, too, which means it'll be tough to rely on him yet again.

Buccaneers | Bobby Rainey receivers tender

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 18:56:07 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers restricted free-agent RB Bobby Rainey received a $1.54 million tender Tuesday, March 10. The team now has the right to match any offer from another organization.

Fantasy Tip: Rainey has actually led the team with 938 rushing yards over the past two seasons while adding 315 receiving yards in 2014. If he finds his way into a prominent role he can be useful to fantasy owners, but it will take an injury or two to make that happen.
