Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is averaging just 2.5 yards per carry this year, but quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo, who is acting as the interim play-caller, is happy with the play of Martin. "I like the things Doug has done," Arroyo said. "Our run game has to improve, obviously, overall. We believe that as a staff that starts with us. I think wholeheartedly we need to continue to find out what exactly it takes to get us back on track in the run game. There's going to be some finer points, detail and those things execution-wise." Arroyo doesn't mind giving RB Bobby Rainey carries, but he believes that Martin is still the team's leading running back.
Fantasy Tip: Martin is cheap this week at FantasyScore ($4,700; 9.4% of cap). He's worth consideration against the Baltimore Ravens if you're looking for an under-the-radar option.
Sun, 05 Oct 2014 20:09:02 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey carried six times for 21 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints, and he added three receptions for 21 yards.
Fantasy Tip: Rainey's role in the offense has shrunk since the return of Doug Martin from injury last week. However, if Rainey continues to produce, and Martin continues to stumble, Rainey could possibly play his way into a more favorable timeshare. He is worth keeping around on most fantasy rosters, but should only be started in the deepest of leagues.
Sun, 28 Sep 2014 15:57:33 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey had just four rushes for two yards in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he added one catch for 16 yards.
Fantasy Tip: With Doug Martin active and apparently at full strength, Rainey is a reserve again. Fantasy owners will not want Rainey in the active lineup unless Martin suffers some sort of injury again.
Thu, 25 Sep 2014 11:17:33 -0700
Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) said he expects to return in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "The knee's coming along just fine," Martin said. "Full go in practice, and I expect to play in this upcoming game." RB Bobby Rainey started in the backfield for the two games that Martin missed.
Fantasy Tip: Martin could be a bargain at $5,900 (11.8% of cap) in his first game back at FantasyScore, but he remains a risk. How much will he split with Bobby Rainey if he's not back to full strength?
Fri, 19 Sep 2014 00:15:20 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith said it is too soon to tell how long QB Josh McCown (thumb) may be out following his thumb injury suffered Thursday, Sept. 18, in a 56-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Smith also didn't address whether or not QB Mike Glennon might get a chance to start at quarterback even if McCown is healthy.
Fantasy Tip: Neither quarterback warrants much fantasy consideration, but the loss of the veteran McCown could hurt Vincent Jackson and Bobby Rainey's fantasy potential.
Thu, 18 Sep 2014 23:54:18 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey, starting in place of injured RB Doug Martin (knee), led the team with seven catches for 64 yards Thursday, Sept. 18, against the Atlanta Falcons. He rushed 11 times for 41 yards in a lopsided loss.
Fantasy Tip: Rainey was a solid play in PPR leagues and well worth his $4,700 price tag on FantasyScore. Martin should soon return to the fold and take away some of his touches, however.
Thu, 18 Sep 2014 07:33:34 -0700
Updating an earlier report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey will start in Week 3. The decision is not primarily because of RB Doug Martin's (knee) injury, but also because the team really likes Rainey.
Fantasy Tip: Martin will still be involved, but his stock in the near term has fallen considerably. Rainey ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap) is a better play on FantasyScore than Martin ($5,900; 11.8%) right now.
Thu, 18 Sep 2014 06:20:35 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) and RB Bobby Rainey are expected to split carries in Week 3 and in the near future.
Fantasy Tip: Martin has more upside than Rainey, but Rainey has the hot hand. Martin ($5,900; 11.8% of your cap) and Rainey ($4,700; 9.4%) are good flex options this week on FantasyScore. Rainey might be the better play of the two with Martin coming off of an injury.
Mon, 15 Sep 2014 07:41:01 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) has a good chance to play in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football. The team held him out of the Week 2 game to ensure that he would be ready for Week 3 at Atlanta. RB Bobby Rainey, who had 22 carries for 144 yards in Week 2, could be heavily involved as well.
Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned this week for further details on how much of a timeshare we can expect moving forward.
Sun, 14 Sep 2014 09:35:11 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (knee) is unlikely to play Sunday, Sept. 14, in the opinion of beat writer Tom Krasniqi. RB Bobby Rainey is expected to see more action in Week 2, regardless of Martin's status.
Fantasy Tip: Martin might be too risky to play ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap on FantasyScore) at this point. Rainey is a solid bargain buy ($3,700; 7.4%) as a flex option for Week 2.
Tue, 09 Sep 2014 14:38:59 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin's (leg) leg injury in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers wasn't the reason why he wasn't on the field during crunch time late in the game, according to head coach Lovie Smith. "Bobby Rainey had come and had given us a little bit of life, and as I've mentioned we want to play more than one running back throughout. So it was just a perfect time to keep both of them involved," Smith said. Martin is physically fine, despite having nine carries for just nine yards in Week 1.
Fantasy Tip: Rainey is worth considering for a waiver wire addition in standard leagues, as he may see more work moving forward, especially if Martin is ineffective. Martin's FantasyScore salary against the St. Louis Rams in Week 2 is affordable ($4,700; 9.4% of cap), but you have to wonder if he presents you with the best bang for your buck in what could become more of a committee approach.
Fri, 15 Aug 2014 13:15:15 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey and RB Mike James are likely to compete for the back up running back job behind Doug Martin. RB Jeff Demps may also be in the mix as a situational player.
Sat, 26 Jul 2014 14:36:15 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James is working with the second-team offense Saturday, July 26.
Fantasy Tip: It's still early, and Bobby Rainey could still figure into the mix at the No. 2 RB. Whichever player wins that role will likely have RB4 or RB5 value.
Tue, 22 Jul 2014 23:31:02 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey, OG Carl Nicks and DE Da'Quan Bowers may be fighting for roster spots once training camp begins, due to increased competition for their jobs. TE Luke Stocker and S Kelcie McCray were also mentioned.
Fri, 20 Jun 2014 13:15:45 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Bobby Rainey, Mike James, Charles Sims and Jeff Demps will be vying for carries behind RB Doug Martin in training camp. Martin is the team's starting running back, but the team wants to use a rotation in the backfield.
Fantasy Tip: Martin clearly is the starter and should be drafted as an RB1. However, they'll look to spell him when they can. Stay tuned for who stands out as his primary backup during training camp and the preseason.
Fri, 30 May 2014 06:22:37 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is the most likely among the backups to have a weekly role behind starter Doug Martin, in the opinion of Scott Smith, because of Sims' ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Martin will probably cede a few carries and third-down work to Sims.
Fantasy Tip: Mike James and Bobby Rainey profile more closely to handcuff status because of the underrated power in their games. One of them may be a cut candidate. Sims is a decent late-rounds PPR gamble but is unlikely to be considered top dog if Martin were to struggle or suffer an injury. As for Martin's fantasy value, he should still get the lion's share on his way to low-end RB1 numbers; he has plenty of rebound potential.

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey's one-year deal is worth $570,000.
Wed, 05 Mar 2014 18:12:02 -0800

Mon, 18 Nov 2013 05:52:41 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bobby Rainey had 30 carries for 163 yards and two touchdowns and had a receiving touchdown in Week 11.
Fantasy Tip: Rainey torched the Atlanta Falcons' porous defense. It remains to be seen if he can continue to be a viable fantasy contributor on a weekly basis, but he needs to be owned in nearly all leagues.
Tue, 12 Nov 2013 12:35:09 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said RB Mike James (ankle) will miss the rest of the year with a broken left ankle.
Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't be a huge surprised after it was announced last night that he had fractured his ankle. Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey will combine to split the backfield duties. Both are worth a waiver wire claim as RB depth for your roster.
Tue, 12 Nov 2013 09:59:03 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Brian Leonard will take over as the primary running back after RB Mike James (ankle) fractured his ankle in Week 10. RB Bobby Rainey will back up Leonard.
Fantasy Tip: Leonard should be owned if you are in dire need at the RB position, but mainly just for the increase in workload he'll receive. Don't expect RB2 production all of a sudden, especially since the Bucs will likely mix in Rainey often.

Wed, 18 Sep 2013 15:27:51 -0700
The Cleveland Browns will sign free-agent RB Willis McGahee (Broncos) to an undisclosed deal if he passes a physical.
Fantasy Tip: McGahee obviously is no Trent Richardson, but assuming he's healthy, he should have some fantasy value, albeit very limited. With T-Rich gone, McGahee should become the main back, possibly alongside Chris Ogbonnaya or Bobby Rainey.
Wed, 11 Sep 2013 23:47:57 -0700
The Cleveland Browns will stick with RB Bobby Rainey at kick returner, as he averaged 25.8 yards per return in four kicks returned out of the end zone. However, he only took one return past the 20-yard line. "We do have some other guys and other options. We have some flexibility there," Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said.

"Bobby Rainey is a big part of our plans," Harbaugh said. "I texted Bobby before the game. He is, right so, upset about it. Bobby is a guy that I cherish. We just did it for special teams reasons, pure and simple. (RB Anthony Allen) has done a great job on special teams, and we made a strategic roster move we hope works for us."
Mon, 10 Sep 2012 15:03:24 -0700
The Baltimore Ravens have signed practice squad RB Anthony Allen to their active roster. In a corresponding move, the team waived RB Bobby Rainey.
Wed, 08 Aug 2012 08:01:21 -0700
Baltimore Ravens RBs Anthony Allen, Bernard Pierce and Damien Berry have not made nearly as much noise in training camp as RB Bobby Rainey, an undrafted free agent from Western Kentucky. However, Rainey is a clone of RB Ray Rice and the team might need a change-of-pace runner. As a result, the Ravens could add a free agent near the end of camp.
Tue, 07 Aug 2012 14:53:06 -0700
The battle for the No. 2 role behind Ray Rice in the Baltimore Ravens' backfield isn't clear right now. While RB Bernard Pierce (hamstring) appears to be the most suited for an every-down role if called upon, a hamstring injury has prevented him from being on the field much. RB Damien Berry bulked up and has had a solid camp while RB Anthony Allen hasn't shown much in moves to go along with his power-running style. Undrafted rookie RB Bobby Rainey has turned heads. The diminutive back has shown the ability to catch well out of the backfield and no longer appears to be a long shot to make the team's final roster.
Fri, 20 Jul 2012 21:03:47 -0700
Baltimore Ravens RB Anthony Allen is likely to open training camp July 26 as the primary backup to starting RB Ray Rice. Allen will be trying to hold off RBs Damien Berry, Bernard Pierce and Bobby Rainey.
