Cowboys | Joseph Randle part of committee?

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 19:06:11 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will share reps with RB Darren McFadden and RB Lance Dunbar because the Cowboys "intend to take a committee approach," according to Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Fantasy Tip: With Randle unable to separate himself as the lead back, he should be considered a low-end RB2. However, he has plenty of upside if he can eventually earn a bulk of the carries.

Cowboys | None of Dallas RBs standing out

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 18:10:54 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle had seven carries for 30 yards in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 23, against the San Francisco 49ers, while RB Darren McFadden had three totes for just four yards. RB Lance Dunbar didn't have a run from scrimmage, and managed just two grabs for three yards. "We didn't run the ball very well," head coach Jason Garrett said. "Obviously we were trying to control the line of scrimmage and didn't do a very good job of that." The team was also playing without three starters along the offensive line, so that needs to be taken into account.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Jerry Jones and the Dallas braintrust are re-thinking their decision to let DeMarco Murray walk in the offseason. Randle appears to be the frontrunner for the starting, and all indications are he has had the best camp, but it could be a three-headed monster with a 50-30-20 sort of split until one emerges as the clear-cut bellcow. That's just an estimate and not based on any reports, but it is something to keep in mind, especially for FantasyScore players early in the season.

Cowboys | Dallas expected to have top RBs Sunday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 14:33:07 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RBs Joseph Randle (oblique), Darren McFadden (hamstring) and Lance Dunbar (ankle) are all expected to receive some playing time during the second preseason game Sunday, Aug. 23, according to owner/general manager Jerry Jones.

Fantasy Tip: All three running backs have dealt with minor injuries during training camp, but they appear ready to play. Randle should see most of the work this season and could be a middle-round draft pick. McFadden should see limited work during games and could be a late-round option or a handcuff to Randle. Dunbar should serve as the team's third-down back and could have value in point-per-reception leagues.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar will play Sunday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 05:21:34 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (ankle) will play in the second preseason game Sunday, Aug. 23, but he won't play a lot.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar is a watch list player right now until he establishes a niche in the offense.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar plagued by fumbles

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 22:59:51 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar was replaced in practice Tuesday, Aug. 18, after he fumbled. He has had trouble with fumbling during training camp and the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar is trying to push into a meaningful role, but he won't supplant Darren McFadden or Joseph Randle if he can't stay on the field.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar to take part in some drills

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 13:00:51 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (ankle) is expected to participate in individual and 7-on-7 drills during practice Monday, Aug. 17, but likely will sit out of the team drills.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar probably will not see regular playing time this season but could be used as a receiver out of the backfield. Dunbar should have more value in point-per-reception leagues and could be a late-round option in most leagues.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar may return to the field

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 07:17:36 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (ankle) is expected to participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar is not a factor in the competition for the starting job, but he could see some playing time on third downs in 2015. Dunbar may have more value in point-per-reception leagues but could be a late-round option in deeper leagues as depth at the position.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar rehabbing

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 16:57:20 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (ankle) is going through rehab in a practice jersey and shoulder pads Thursday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: It is unlikely Dunbar moves higher than third on the Cowboys' running back depth chart, but he does need to prove he's still worthy of a spot in the backfield rotation.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar misses another practice

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 17:26:20 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (ankle) missed his fifth straight practice Monday, Aug. 10, but went through his most exhaustive rehab session yet.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar is likely to be the team's third running back behind Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden this year, injuries aside. He's mainly a pass-catching option out of the backfield on third downs, too, so he carries minimal value in point-per-reception leagues.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle has impressed

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 17:01:24 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle has impressed the team during training camp, and the starting running back job is his to lose with both RBs Darren McFadden (hamstring) and Lance Dunbar (ankle) dealing with injuries.

Fantasy Tip: Running behind arguably the best offensive line in the entire league, Randle has tons of upside as the front-runner for the starting running back job in Dallas. He has RB2 upside as an early-round fantasy pick.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar not on field

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 10:53:05 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (ankle) was not on the practice field Saturday, Aug. 8. Dunbar has been dealing with a sprained ankle, but head coach Jason Garrett has already said he doesn't think the injury is serious.

Fantasy Tip: is serious. Dunbar should be the Cowboys' third running back option behind Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle, unless they decide to sign someone else before the season starts. Dunbar is more of a receiving threat and could see the majority of his work on third downs and in passing situations. He's somewhat of a PPR sleeper, but should be viewed as a RB5.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar undergoes MRI

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 12:20:36 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (ankle) recently underwent an MRI on his injured ankle, but head coach Jason Garrett does not think it is a serious injury.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar could have a role on third downs this season if he does well during training camp and the preseason. Owners provably could pass on Dunbar during drafts since he will not see regular playing time.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar injures ankle

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 18:24:47 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar suffered an ankle injury Wednesday, Aug. 5. Executive vice president Stephen Jones didn't think the injury was serious, but the team will check it out further.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar is considered third behind Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle on the Cowboys' unofficial depth chart, and a training camp injury won't help his case to move up the ranks.

Cowboys | Dallas still not interested in veterans

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:50:51 -0700

The Dallas Cowboys are still not interested in veteran RBs Chris Johnson and Ray Rice, following the release of RB Ryan Williams Tuesday, July 28. The Cowboys remain confident in RBs Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar.

Fantasy Tip: While Randle and McFadden are thought to have separated themselves from Dunbar, neither one has an upper hand over the other at this point. This will be one of the most closely watched position battles all preseason.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar to have receiving role?

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:36:17 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar is expected to have the biggest impact of any of the running backs in the passing game, according to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News.

Fantasy Tip: It is still anticipated that Dunbar will see less playing time between Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and himself, but he could be used most of the three in the passing game. In point-per-reception leagues, he should be drafted as a RB5 with RB4 upside if McFadden gets hurt.

Cowboys | No lead candidate at RB in Dallas?

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:07:48 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RBs Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar are still battling each other for the starting running back position, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. "I can't say who is going to be the lead dog right now, but those guys are going to compete and we're going to do what's necessary to win games," Brown said.

Fantasy Tip: Brown can say what he wants, but Randle and McFadden are probably the likely candidates to receive the most touches, with Randle having a slight edge for being named the starter. Randle should be taken as a RB3, or low-end RB2 in deeper leagues, while McFadden is more of a low-end RB3 to high-end RB4, especially taking his injury history into consideration.

Cowboys | Ryan Williams not a fit in Big D?

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 20:30:52 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ryan Williams is unlikely to make the 53-man roster projected by beat writer Todd Archer. The team's running backs would be RBs Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and FB Tyler Clutts.

Fantasy Tip: Williams could still very well make the team, as this is just one man's opinion, but the former Cardinals tailback needs to prove he can stay healthy and be effective first.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar not a lock to make team?

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 17:30:57 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar has been working as the primary back during two-minute drills in OTAs, but Bob Sturm of the Dallas Morning News believes RB Ryan Williams could end up taking Dunbar's spot on the roster because of Dunbar's lack of size and limited skill set.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar may be third-down back

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 12:42:42 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar has been working as the primary back in the two-minute drills during organized team activities and could be the team's third-down back this season.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar probably will not receive regular carries during the regular season but could be used as a receiver out of the backfield. Dunbar would have more value in point-per-reception leagues if he wins the job and could be a late-round option.

Cowboys | Jerry Jones confident in run game

Thu, 14 May 2015 16:41:17 -0700

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones expressed confidence in the team's overall run game Thursday, May 14. "You say the entire running game, and that would be including our tight ends, including our fullback the entire game we're better," Jones said. The Cowboys have yet to determine roles for their running backs. As it stands, RB Darren McFadden is at the top of the depth chart, with RBs Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: With McFadden's extensive injury history he'll represent too much uncertainty come draft time. If Joseph Randle remains buried on the depth chart, he'll make for an excellent source of value after he rushed for 6.7 yards per carry on 51 attempts last season.

Cowboys | Dallas to continue to pound on ground

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 07:15:43 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RBs Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle figure to see a good amount of work in 2015. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team would like to continue their emphasis on inside running after losing RB DeMarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles. "Absolutely," Garrett said. "It has to be replaced. It was a good style of football for us to play. We will try to continue to do that."

Fantasy Tip: Run DMC is listed as the team's No. 1 running back on their depth chart with Dunbar and Randle as the secondary backs. Dunbar is a change-of-pace back and is more of a PPR RB5 flyer. McFadden and Randle are pretty similar, but McFadden has a lengthy history of futility and injuries. It's possible the younger Randle overtakes him in camp. For now, though, McFadden should be viewed as a high-end RB3 and Randle as a RB4.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray to be game-time decision?

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 14:42:03 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) will likely be a game-time decision against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16, according to owner Jerry Jones. Jones said the team is still evaluating Murray's status for this weekend. "I think we just want to take a look at it. We don't know," Jones said. "I'm not so sure, when they say the definition of healing, how much can heal between now and Sunday." RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will prepare for increased workloads if Murray can't play, and RB Ryan Williams could be activated off the practice squad.

Fantasy Tip: With Dallas playing an afternoon game Sunday, that makes Murray ($8,200) even more risky at FantasyScore in Week 16. Randle ($5,900) and Dunbar ($3,000) are both more than acceptable plays against a weak Colts run D if Murray sits out. Dunbar is probably the better value play at FantasyScore, though, since it's a PPR league.

Cowboys | Owner optimistic on DeMarco Murray

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 10:14:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts despite having surgery on a broken left hand, according to owner Jerry Jones. However, Jones thinks RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar can carry the load efficiently if Murray has to sit. Jones also added that Murray won't need to practice this week in order to play.

Fantasy Tip: As of right now, Murray's $8,200 FantasyScore salary seems much too risky against the Indianapolis Colts, who have been run on mostly all year. You'll need to keep track of Murray's status throughout the week, and the fact that they play an afternoon game makes him all the more risky. However, having either Randle ($5,900) or Dunbar ($3,000) to fall back on is nice.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle to see bigger role

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 14:10:43 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will be the primary running back in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts if RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is forced to miss the game. RB Lance Dunbar would likely step into a bigger role, as well. "I have a lot of confidence that Joseph Randle would step up and play big for us," owner Stephen Jones said. "Anytime that he's had a chance to run the ball this year -- which maybe hasn't been enough -- he's been very successful."

Fantasy Tip: Randle should be your first priority on the waiver wire this week, especially if you own Murray. Dunbar could be a nice consolation price, though, especially in PPR leagues such as FantasyScore. Both could be nice sleeper picks in daily leagues against the Colts this weekend if Murray is inactive.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's workload to decrease?

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 14:38:58 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is likely to have his workload lessened by head coach Jason Garrett to preserve him for the long season. Murray is currently on pace to tie Larry Johnson's single-season record for carries with 416. Murray has run the ball 130 times for 670 yards in the team's first five games of the season. He carried a career-high 31 times for 136 yards in Week 5. Murray has had at least 22 carries in the five games, which is the most he's had in any five-game span in his career.

"DeMarco was out there and we think that's probably too many carries in the game, week in and week out," Garrett said. "He ended up with 31 so we'd like to get that number lower. We'd really just like to get the other guys an opportunity. I don't see any wear and tear in DeMarco but having said that, we want to make sure we create a rotation and we'll focus on doing that in the next few weeks." Murray has never had more than 217 carries in a season. RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar have combined for 22 carries and 88 yards.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't discourage you from using Murray in your daily lineups at FantasyScore. He has been the most productive back in fantasy football, and that shouldn't change drastically with fewer touches.

Cowboys | Bigger role for Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar?

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 18:56:40 -0700

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Friday, Oct. 3, that RB Joseph Randle can be effective, and he could be in line for a few more snaps going forward. "The biggest threat to (RB DeMarco Murray's) stats is Joseph Randle," Jones said. "Frankly, I don't want to leave (RB Lance Dunbar) out of this equation, either. If we can, it would be good to have Dunbar with a few more touches. But make no mistake about it, Joseph Randle can be effective out there, too. Should we? We probably should have at least Randle get a few more snaps."

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar healthy, set for third-down duty

Sat, 12 Jul 2014 20:34:52 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (knee) hasn't missed a snap this offseason and should fill the third-down back role for the team this year, according to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com. Archer also believes that Dunbar would likely remain the third-down back even if something happens to RB DeMarco Murray with either RB Joseph Randle or RB Ryan Williams taking over as the every-down back, depending on which player wins the job as the team's third back.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar's involvement in the passing game could make him worth a flier in PPR leagues this year. However, his value is going to be capped if he is limited to mainly passing downs.

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar fully recovered, eyes expanded role

Mon, 23 Jun 2014 17:36:34 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (knee) said he feels 100 percent after missing the end of last season with a knee injury, and running backs coach Gary Brown plans to use the healthy Dunbar in variety of ways this season. "Well, he's a guy that's going to be a complete weapon," Brown said. "We can line him up anywhere on the team-tailback spot, at the wide receiver spot, in the slot. He has tremendous hands and he's just not a specialty guy."

Fantasy Tip: DeMarco Murray is the No. 1 guy in Dallas, but if he were to miss any time, Dunbar is a name to keep in mind. In the meantime, he could have some value in PPR leagues if the Cowboys decide to take advantage of his receiving skills.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's role to expand

Tue, 03 Dec 2013 18:21:03 -0800

The Dallas Cowboys plan to ride RB DeMarco Murray as much as they can after losing RB Lance Dunbar (knee). "DeMarco Murray is our lead back, has been our lead back all year long, has done an excellent job for us, did a really good job in the game the other day again," head coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday, Dec. 3. "He'll be the lead dog. The other guys, (RBs Joseph Randle and Phillip Tanner) will have to step up if they have an opportunity if DeMarco can't go."

Fantasy Tip: If you're a Murray fantasy owner, this is music to your ears. Randle and Tanner are not real threats to push their way into a timeshare with Murray, so he will see a bulk of the carries in a league where in this day and age teams are using a two-back system. Over his past three games, Murray has 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and he has eight receptions for 79 yards over his past two outings.

Murray missed Week 7 with a sprained knee. "He's got a real shot," executive vice president Stephen Jones said of Murray. "Wouldn't say for sure. I think it's still questionable but we'll kind of see how he feels after today's practice and we'll see how it feels on Sunday and we'll make a decision …. We want to do right for DeMarco for the season not just one game." RB Joseph Randle would start again if Murray isn't able to suit up. RB Lance Dunbar (hamstring) will also be back in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Basically, Murray will be a game-time decision this weekend. Check back Sunday morning to find out if he's playing. If he's in there, he should probably be in your starting lineup, depending on your other options.
