Chargers | Just one grab for Travis Benjamin

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 21:21:56 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) was active for the Week 12 game against the Houston Texans, but he was limited to one grab for eight yards on two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin didn't do much, and perhaps he was dealing with ill-effects of his injury. He could factor in more prominently in Week 14 with Tyrell Williams leaving the game early.

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) will play in Week 12's game against the Houston Texans, according to a source.

Chargers | Questionable tag for Travis Benjamin

Fri, 25 Nov 2016 16:16:28 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 25, and is listed as questionable for Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin was a full participant during practice this week and should be ready to play against the Houston Texans. He has been held to under five catches in each of the last four games and has less than 55 yards in each of those games. Benjamin could be considered a flex option in deeper leagues because he should see be involved in the passing game.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin fully practices

Thu, 24 Nov 2016 15:18:20 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: The warning signs are legitimate for Benjamin this week. He's missed the last two weeks with his knee injury and faces a really tough test in the Houston Texans. Don't consider Benjamin as more than a flex start.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin has full practice

Wed, 23 Nov 2016 13:21:40 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) was a full participant in practice Wednesday Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for Benjamin he'll return against one of the better pass defenses in the NFL this year in the Houston Texans. If there aren't better options then start him, but he has risk written all over him this week between the matchup and the return from injury.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin returns to practice

Tue, 22 Nov 2016 16:32:03 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) returned to practice Monday, Nov. 21.

Fantasy Tip: This is excellent news for Benjamin, after the former Cleveland Brown missed the club's last contest in Week 10, but it appears the bye week really did wonders for his sprained PCL. As long as he's able to keep trending in the right direction throughout the week, Benjamin should return to action Sunday, and he'll be a strongly recommended pickup for any leagues where he might be available. Benjamin is San Diego's best receiver with Keenan Allen (knee) out for the year, and was leading the club in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns prior to going down with injury. He still might be a little hobbled, though, which makes him a risky WR3 play for Week 12.

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 15:54:44 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) did not practice Friday, Nov. 11, and he is listed as doubtful for the Week 10 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin unlikely to play Week 10

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 13:48:42 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) did not participate in practice all week and has been listed as doubtful for Week 10 against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Tyrell Williams is also questionable with a knee injury, setting the stage for an increased role from Dontrelle Inman and likely Hunter Henry. Antonio Gates has reestablished himself as Philip Rivers' top target in recent weeks, but there should be more than enough to go around to make all the aforementioned Chargers worth starting in fantasy this week.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin sits again

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 13:31:15 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: That's two days in a row Benjamin has not practiced. If he doesn't practice tomorrow then he could be doubtful for Week 10. Even if he practices and eventually plays he could be on a snap count. The risk in starting Benjamin may just be too high.

Chargers | No practice for Travis Benjamin

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 14:29:25 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Don't look now, but Benjamin has only scored once in his last seven games and has not even reached 60 yards in his last four games. He has dealt with injuries and could be limited again this week if he plays, as he was last week. The timing just doesn't seem right for a Benjamin rebound, even in a good matchup with the Miami Dolphins.

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 16:20:35 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) left the Week 9 game against the Tennessee Titans in the fourth quarter and he is not wearing or holding a helmet. He entered the game with a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 12:14:14 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) is officially active for the team's Week 9 game.

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 14:44:49 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has been dealing with his knee injury for several weeks but has been able to play. Chargers | Travis Benjamin also limited

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 14:52:08 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin may be a little deeper in the woods than his counterpart Tyrell Williams. Benjamin is dealing with a PCL sprain, so he'll really need to be monitored before this weekend's game. Even if he's active, he could be limited. But if he is active, he should be started. He would still arguably be the Chargers' best option in the passing game.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin has PCL injury

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 17:35:34 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 posterior cruciate ligament injury but will not need surgery. His status for Week 9 is uncertain at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has been bothered by his knee injury over the past few weeks but has been able to play. Owners will need to check on his status later in the week to see if he will play in Week 9. He can be a No. 3 receiver in most leagues if he is active.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin does not practice

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 14:41:19 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has been able to play despite the knee injury but was scheduled to receive a second opinion on his knee earlier in the week. Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if he will play in Week 9. Benjamin is a decent No. 3 receiver when healthy, but owners will need others available in case he is ruled out.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin seeking second opinion

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 13:37:11 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) will receive a second opinion on his posterior cruciate ligament sprain, according to a source. Benjamin has been dealing with the injury for weeks and its discomfort has continued.

Fantasy Tip: An injury-plagued season for the Chargers gets worse by the week. It's unclear how bad Benjamin's injury is, but his status requires monitoring. Tyrell Williams and Dontrelle Inman would become San Diego's top receivers if Benjamin is forced to miss time, but Williams is the better bet if they're both available on waivers.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin scores on nice grab

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 20:39:20 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin posted three receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos. He was targeted a team-high nine times.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin's stat line wasn't terribly impressive, but his touchdown catch certainly was very pretty. He remains more of a WR4 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans.

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 11:44:44 -0700

Chargers | Encouraging practice for two Charger WRs

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 14:59:31 -0700

San Diego Chargers WRs Travis Benjamin (knee) and Tyrell Williams (knee) were both limited participants at practice Thursday, Oct. 27, after sitting out practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: This is encouraging news for both, as it means each wide-out is on track to suit up in Sunday's divisional clash with the Broncos. At the same time, it also figures to be a difficult matchup, as Denver has one of the true elite defenses in all of football. When these two teams met a few weeks ago on Thursday Night Football, both Benjamin (three catches, 17 yards) and Williams (three catches, 28 yards) produced season lows in receiving yards.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin looks on in practice

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 20:20:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) was listed on the injury report for practice Wednesday, Oct. 26, due to a knee injury, but beat writer Michael Gehlken said it appears Benjamin was just being rested.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos have the league's top ranked pass defense allowing just 175.0 yards per game with four touchdowns through seven games, so even if Benjamin can play he isn't a recommended fantasy option in most formats.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin doesn't practice

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 14:43:11 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin only caught three passes for 17 yards in San Diego against the Broncos. If Benjamin does play, he could put up similar numbers in Denver, too. Benjamin shouldn't be completely disregarded, but don't view him as more than a WR4 against the elite Denver pass defense.

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 22:54:04 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) managed four receptions for 54 yards in the Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He was targeted five times.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin showed no ill-effects of the knee injury which had him listed as questionable. He has four or more grabs in six of his seven games, but faces a Denver defense in Week 8 which limited him to season lows of three grabs and 17 yards.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin questionable for Week 7

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 13:03:11 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) will be listed as questionable for Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: While the expectation is that he will play, Benjamin's pace has slowed considerably since Week 2, when it appeared he was going to take over the Keenan Allen role in San Diego's offense. The Falcons present yet another get-well spot for Benjamin's fantasy stock, so owners should feel reasonably good about starting him as a WR3/flex in what should be a shootout.

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 20. As reported earlier, he is expected to play if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: To be safe, Benjamin's status should be monitored heading into the weekend. He has a great matchup against the Oakland Raiders, though, and is a viable WR3 play at worst if he's good to go.

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) is participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 20. He is expected to play in the team's Week 7 game as long as he does not suffer a setback.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin should be able to play this week, but owners should check the inactive list just to make sure. He has recorded two 100-yard games this season and has been targeted at least seven times in four of the six games. Benjamin can be a No. 3 receiver in most leagues if he plays.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin does not practice

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 13:42:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Benjamin's knee injury will keep him out of the team's Week 7 game, but owners should know more about his status later in the week. He has been a bit inconsistent in terms of his weekly receiving yards but has been targeted at least seven times in three of the last four games. He should be a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver if he is active this week.

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (leg) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 19. Benjamin was wearing a sleeve on his right leg Monday, Oct. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Benjamin is in danger of missing the team's Week 7 game. Benjamin has played well over the first six weeks of the season and should be a starting candidate for owners if he plays.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin could set career mark

Tue, 11 Oct 2016 17:36:43 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin is on pace for 1,261 receiving yards, which would be a career-high. This season is his first with the Chargers. Benjamin's current career-high in receiving yards is 966, set last year with the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has been a great addition to the San Diego offense. His opportunities have increased with the losses of Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead, and he has become QB Phillip Rivers' favorite target. That being said, he faces one of his tougher tests of the season in the Denver Broncos this week. View him as a WR3 for Thursday night.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin adds new element

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 21:34:23 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin's ability to stretch the field should open up space for intermediate passing routes, and QB Philip Rivers said it took him a while to adjust to Benjamin's speed and realize he couldn't overthrow him on deep routes.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin won't be as consistent as Keenan Allen or Antonio Gates, but he should deliver his share of big plays and have an occasional big game. He is an all-or-nothing play in standard leagues and daily formats.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin has quiet debut

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 05:37:31 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin caught one pass for 11 yards in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals Friday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin missed some time during training camp because of an injury but should be more involved in the offense moving forward. He likely will be one of the starting receivers this season and can be a No. 4 wide receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin building trust with Rivers

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 23:32:02 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin was singled out by QB Philip Rivers for his work during a joint practice against the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, Aug. 16, specifically for their timing on a comeback route that Rivers deemed his "favorite play" of the evening.

Fantasy Tip: Consider what Benjamin did in Cleveland with no viable QB, and what Rivers did in San Diego with a patchwork line and receiving corps. If the two can get on the same page early they could do some damage over a 16-game slate. Benjamin is best suited as a No. 4 fantasy wideout, but there's sneaky upside there.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin practicing

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 16:24:07 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (undisclosed) is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin missed a little over a week because of the injury and probably will be eased back into practice. He likely will be a starter this season and should receive a solid amount of targets in the passing game. Benjamin probably can be a decent No. 4 receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin to be returner

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 16:30:47 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin will be the team's punt returner in 2016. Benjamin may not be used as a returner as often if he receives significant snaps at wide receiver.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin should have a solid role in the passing game this season and likely will be on the field most of the time. He should be a middle- to late-round pick in most drafts this season. Owners in leagues that count return stats should have interest in Benjamin.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin absent Wednesday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:08:29 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (undisclosed) did not participate in any drills at minicamp Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin's absence is probably nothing to be overly concerned about. He'll enter the 2016 season as the Chargers' No. 2 wide receiver and should be a WR4 option in standard fantasy drafts.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin contract details

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 12:56:25 -0800

Updating a previous report, the San Diego Chargers agreed with WR Travis Benjamin on a four-year, $24 million deal Wednesday, March 9. The deal includes $13 million guaranteed and $18 million in the first three years.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin provides the Bolts with a valuable deep threat now that Malcom Floyd is retired. He'll help Philip Rivers stretch the field and could be a really nice WR3 for fantasy owners, but he has more value in traditional fantasy leagues because of his boom-or-bust personality as a deep threat.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin headed to San Diego

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 06:37:33 -0800

Free-agent WR Travis Benjamin (Browns) has agreed to a deal with the San Diego Chargers Wednesday, March 9. Benjamin's deal is expected to eclipse $6 million per year.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has teased us with a few big games, and the speedster will have a ton of protection with Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates running patterns with him. He'll be in the WR3 mix with room for more.

Falcons | Atlanta eyeing Travis Benjamin

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 15:08:45 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin has drawn interest from the Atlanta Falcons, according to a source. Benjamin played for current Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Cleveland in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: This year's free-agent market for wide receivers is a relatively weak one, making Benjamin one of the better free-agent receivers this year. The Falcons may have to pay up if they really want Benjamin. He would be the No. 2 wide receiver in Atlanta if signed, but he shouldn't be considered more than a low-end WR2 in the fantasy realm.

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:24:20 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin's talks with the Browns have broken down and he will enter the free-agent market, according to his agent.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin will be one of the bigger names among free-agent wide receivers this offseason. He was the No. 1 wide receiver on the Browns last season and added extra fantasy value with his punt returning. He'll remain a deep threat wherever he goes, but it's still too early to gauge what his value will be in 2016.

Browns | Travis Benjamin, Cleveland near deal

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 19:06:31 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin is nearing a deal with the team, beat writer Tony Grossi said Monday, Feb. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin had a breakout season with 68 grabs for 966 yards and five touchdowns, although he cooled off down the stretch with just one touchdown in his final 13 games after four scores in the first three. He could be a solid No. 3 or 4 fantasy wide receiver in 2016, especially if Josh Gordon returns to the team and the organization upgrades its quarterback situation as expected.

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 17:40:34 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin could be re-signed to a new contract shortly, according to ESPNCleveland.com's Tony Grossi.

Fantasy Tip: It's important for the Browns to bring back Benjamin as he was undoubtedly their best wide receiver last season. He also gives Cleveland one of the better punt returners in the NFL, which gives him added fantasy value, too. He's in WR3 territory.

Browns | Travis Benjamin likely staying

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 13:17:54 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin said he could get a deal done with the Browns before March. Furthermore, he spoke with new head coach Hue Jackson, who said he loves Benjamin's skill set and that 2016 will hopefully be a great season for the Browns.

Fantasy Tip: The writing seems to be on the wall for Benjamin to stay in Cleveland. They'll need him, too, as he was far and away their most productive wide receiver last season. He also gives them one of the league's best punt returners. The quarterback situation isn't ideal, though. Consider Benjamin a WR3.

Browns | Travis Benjamin deal done soon?

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 13:34:52 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin may receive a new deal in the near future, according to his agent.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin is certainly worth of a new contract following last season. He was by far Cleveland's No. 1 wide receiver and a big threat as a punt returner. He may not be the most reliable starter in the fantasy football realm, partly due to inconsistent quarterback play, but view him as a WR3 for 2016.
