Saints | So-so day for Coby Fleener

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 22:19:11 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener posted three grabs for 42 yards on six targets in the Week 9 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener has nine grabs for 120 yards over his past three games on 12 targets. He has struggled in his first season in New Orleans, and should only be trusted as a bye-week replacement at this point until he starts to show more consistency.

Saints | Coby Fleener limited to four targets

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 17:54:19 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener had four catches for 36 yards in the Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener has been limited to six grabs for 80 yards on six targets over the past two games. That simply will not due for fantasy owners. He'll look to rebound in Week 9 against San Francisco, but it's probably best to go another way for fantasy purposes until Fleener becomes more involved in the offense again.

Saints | Just two grabs for Coby Fleener

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 20:35:08 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener had a pair of catches for 44 yards in the Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs on just two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener has been rather erratic for his fantasy owners this season, posting solid yardage and a total in just two of his games, while disappearing in the other four outings. He has low-end TE1 ability, but he needs to be more consistent. He has another tough matchup in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks, so you might want to go another way.

Saints | Coby Fleener keeps up good word

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 17:23:27 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener managed six receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers. He was targeted seven times.

Fantasy Tip: After a bit of a slow start in the Crescent City, Fleener has found the end zone in two of his past three games while totaling 202 yards on 16 grabs over the past three games. He has re-emerged as a TE1 in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Saints | Coby Fleener figuring out offense

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 21:20:24 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener's catch rate has climbed from 25 percent in the first two games to 62 percent in the last two games, and tight ends coach Dan Campbell said Fleener is starting to understand what QB Drew Brees is looking for.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener has had one big game and three duds thus far, and he remains a boom-or-bust TE1 option heading into Week 5.

Saints | Coby Fleener finally breaks out

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 21:47:13 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener posted seven receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown in the Week 3 game against the Atlanta Falcons Monday, Sept. 26. He was targeted 11 times, tied for most in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener went to New Orleans with high expectations from fantasy owners, but he fell on his face in the first two games. For those who gave up on him, there will be a mass waiver wire add in the upcoming week after this performance.

Saints | Drew Brees still confident in Coby Fleener

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 10:34:00 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener is off to a disappointing start in his new home and still building a rapport with QB Drew Brees. However, Brees believes as the two players begin to get more comfortable with each other and the team learns what Fleener does best versus man and zone coverage, the results will come. "We're able to get more specific every day. That's the thing during the offseason; everything is kind of general. It's the general form of the offense and concepts and that kind of thing. It's not until you get down to real game-planning that you get down to some of the nitty gritty and specific," Brees said.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener has three catches (for 35 yards) on 12 targets thus far, which speaks to his lack of comfort in the offense. With that said, he represents a solid buy-low. It should be noted that Ben Watson had five catches for 31 yards at this point last season on nine targets before finishing the year with 74 catches for 825 yards. Fleener will have another soft matchup in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons, who have yielded 15 catches for 138 yards and three touchdowns on 16 targets to tight ends thus far.

Saints | Coby Fleener off to slow start

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 21:40:52 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener caught two passes for 29 yards on eight targets in Week 2, giving him three catches for 35 yards through two games. He blamed himself in post-game comments, saying he made "three or four" mistakes and singling out a dropped pass on the team's opening drive.

Fantasy Tip: Clearly this isn't the start anyone envisioned when Fleener signed a $36 million deal in free agency, but that investment tells you they're going to give him every chance to work through these issues. Still, in the short run, Fleener is probably better left on your bench until he shows more chemistry with Drew Brees

Saints | Coby Fleener may see more time

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 16:29:53 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener is expected to receive more snaps in Week 2 because of the injury to TE Josh Hill (ankle). Fleener may be asked to block more during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener was limited to six yards in Week 1 but should receive more targets this week against the New York Giants. Fleener could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in most leagues.

Saints | Coby Fleener nearly invisible

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 19:27:17 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener did not get in on the track meet in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders, posting just one reception for six yards on four targets.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Fleener was just uncomfortable in a new offense, but he did not give fantasy owners a very good show in a 35-34 shootout loss where others had giant stat lines. He has TE1 ability in most fantasy formats, but if he struggles again in Week 2 at N.Y. Giants it isn't a bad idea to look for a replacement. Give him at least one more game, however.

Saints | Coby Fleener struggling with playbook

Sun, 04 Sep 2016 14:57:12 -0700

New Orleans TE Coby Fleener reportedly admitted recently he is still adjusting to his new playbook, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

Fantasy Tip: It partially explains why Fleener had a slow preseason. While the Saints' prized free-agent signing may start out slow as a result of not having the playbook down pat, New Orleans needs him too much for that to remain the case for too long. He should remain firmly on the midrange TE1 radar.

Saints | Coby Fleener not reliable enough

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 07:16:39 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener hasn't been reliable enough catching passes and isn't on the same page with QB Drew Brees on some routes, according to beat writer Larry Holder. TE Josh Hill has been more involved in the passing game in recent practices.

Fantasy Tip: That breakout season for Fleener to thrust him into the fantasy spotlight is in question now. He has a lot of tools, and the offense has a history of making fantasy stars. Fleener will need to pick it up to rekindle some of the upside he had entering camp. He's a low-end TE1 for now, and Hill is a TE2 that could become a deep sleeper.

Saints | Coby Fleener still work in progress

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 19:53:46 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener is still getting situation in his team's offense, and he continues to make adjustments. "I'd say it's an ongoing progression," head coach Sean Payton said Monday, Aug. 22. "I think, man, there's some plays that are real good, and then there's some plays where we've got to be a little bit more detailed and that's something that I know he's got to work on."

Fantasy Tip: No matter what the depth charts have been saying, Fleener will be well ahead of Josh Hill and Michael Hoomanwanui, and should be a the second or third option in the pass game once the regular season gets rolling. He is being drafted as a TE1 in most fantasy leagues, and is a good consolation prize for those who miss out on the likes of Rob Gronkowski, Greg Olsen, Jordan Reed, etc.

Saints | Coby Fleener works with starters

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 16:37:14 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener lined up with the first-team offense at practice Wednesday, August 17.

Fantasy Tip: There was a little concern recently when Fleener was listed as a backup tight end on the team's depth chart, but this news should put owners at ease. Fleener will head into the new campaign as the starting tight end in New Orleans, and considering what Jimmy Graham did there in the past, the former Indianapolis Colt will have potential to be one of the most valuable players at this position in 2016. He should be on the radar in all formats.

Saints | Coby Fleener building chemistry with QB

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 11:40:23 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener said he has been working on building a chemistry with QB Drew Brees during the early part of training camp. Brees said he believes Fleener could catch a lot of passes in 2016 because he will have favorable matchups.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener likely will be one of the top options in the passing game this season and should continue to improve his chemistry with Brees during the preseason. Owners should be considered as a No. 1 tight end in most fantasy leagues.

Saints | Coby Fleener could be second option

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 10:32:03 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener could be the second option in the passing game behind WR Brandin Cooks.

Fantasy Tip: It could boil down to how many snaps Willie Sneed loses to Michael Thomas in two-receiver sets. Either way, Fleener figures to be spotlighted on offense. Fleener is two years removed from an eight-touchdown season before his numbers drastically fell off as the Indianapolis Colts struggled altogether. Fleener is a low-end TE1 that could have a breakthrough.

Saints | Drew Brees likes Coby Fleener

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 12:47:04 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener has an uncanny ability to separate and get open, according to QB Drew Brees. "There's always a place to throw the ball where he can get it," Brees said. Fleener was targeted eight times during 7-on-7 drills and 11-on-11 drills this week -- the same number of targets as WRs Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener is one of the more intriguing options at tight end this season with his new team. In one of the most pass-happy offenses in the NFL, he's a mid- to low-end TE1, even if he still has some things to learn.

Saints | Coby Fleener could help in red zone

Mon, 30 May 2016 12:58:57 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener will be used as a receiver first and will hopefully help in third-down and red-zone situations, according to head coach Sean Payton, much like the way Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham was used when he played for the Saints.

Fantasy Tip: The price may be high for Fleener this offseason as the excitement builds with him in one of the most pass-happy offenses in the NFL. Fleener is definitely in the TE1 conversation heading into next season, but don't draft him too early.

Colts | Indy's No. 2 TE job Jack Doyle's to lose

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 18:51:21 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Jack Doyle will have the first shot at being the No. 2 tight end in 2016 with TE Coby Fleener signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Even in an expanded role, Doyle is unlikely to make a worthwhile impact for fantasy owners unless Dwayne Allen misses time for some reason.

Saints | Coby Fleener moving to Saints

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 15:56:21 -0800

Free-agent TE Coby Fleener (Colts) agreed to sign a five-year deal worth roughly $36 million with the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 9, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener didn't do a whole lot with Indy alongside Dwayne Allen, as the former Stanford product caught 54 passes for 491 yards and three touchdowns in 2015. His move to New Orleans should do wonders for his fantasy value in a high-flying passing offense with Drew Brees still around. Fleener will likely be an undervalued low-end TE1.

Saints | Coby Fleener a target of Saints

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 13:13:40 -0800

Free-agent TE Coby Fleener (Colts) is drawing interest from the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener is looking for a new home following the re-signing of Dwayne Allen in Indianapolis. He has solid touchdown potential, but his hands have been unreliable for the most part so far in his career. He'll have better fantasy value if he signs with a potent Saints offense, but he still wouldn't be a TE1.

Colts | Coby Fleener not close to re-signing

Sat, 27 Feb 2016 06:25:53 -0800

Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent TE Coby Fleener has not made a lot of progress in contract talks with the Colts at this point, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener probably will receive some interest if he hits the free-agent market and could find a starting job. Fleener posted decent numbers this season but probably would not be more than a No. 2 tight end in most drafts next season.

Colts | Unlikely to use franchise tag

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 09:14:05 -0800

The Indianapolis Colts are highly unlikely to use the franchise tag this year because they don't have any marquee players in line for free agency. PK Adam Vinatieri, TE Coby Fleener and LB Jerrell Freeman are their main free agents, and they are all replaceable.

Colts | Coby Fleener's possible deal

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 13:28:31 -0800

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener will likely require a multi-year deal worth around $4 million per season in order to stay with the Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener is expected to stay with Indianaplois; he seems to be favored over fellow TE Dwayne Allen. There is an outside chance that Fleener signs elsewhere, but that looks highly unlikely at this point. Consider Fleener a TE2.

Colts | Coby Fleener to return?

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 16:27:13 -0800

Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent Coby Fleener is expected to be retained by the Colts this offseason. Fleener should be the favorite to be re-signed ahead of fellow impending free-agent TE Dwayne Allen, in the opinion of Zak Keefer of The Indianapolis Star.

Fantasy Tip: Re-signing one free-agent tight end could push the other free-agent tight end out the door in Indianapolis. It looks like Fleener has the upper hand, but neither one is a viable starting tight end option right now, however.

Colts | Jack Doyle could have bigger role

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 14:46:41 -0800

Indianapolis Colts TE Jack Doyle may see an increase in usage in 2016 and could assume the backup tight end position if one of impending free-agent TEs Coby Fleener or Dwayne Allen don't re-sign.

Fantasy Tip: If Fleener or Allen doesn't return, then Doyle will indubitably see more snaps next season, but still probably not enough to warrant starter consideration.

Colts | Coby Fleener looking at free agency

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 13:55:05 -0800

Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent TE Coby Fleener will be entering free agency as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Fleener nor Dwayne Allen carried much fantasy value throughout the 2015 season, although Fleener played and produced more because of Allen dealing with injuries. Both will be unrestricted free agents, and Allen has already expressed his desire to return to the Colts. Indy may want them both back, if not just to have one for when the other is injured.

Colts | Coby Fleener finishes strong

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 15:07:43 -0800

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener caught seven passes for 88 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown, in a 30-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener has had an up-and-down season, but hopefully this is a move in the right direction. He led the team in receiving, and if Colts coach Chuck Pagano returns (or someone else takes over) hopefully the tight end spot can be utilized very well.

Colts | Coby Fleener finds end zone

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 22:37:56 -0800

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener had a game-high seven catches for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Carolina Panthers Monday, Nov. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) had 11 targets to just three for Dwayne Allen ($3,800, 7.6% of cap). Fleener has clearly become a better FantasyScore option.

Colts | Coby Fleener not involved

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 18:18:49 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener played 46 snaps in Week 2 but was not targeted once, and he has one catch for five yards through two games this season.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener ($4,500, 9.0%) and fellow tight end Dwayne Allen ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) have combined for just four catches through two games, and even with Allen possibly missing a Week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Titans, Fleener isnít worth taking a chance on at FantasyScore until the Indianapolis offense returns to form.

Colts | Coby Fleener to finish up

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 19:17:39 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener will be the top tight end for the second half of the Week 2 game against the New York Jets Monday, Sept. 21, with TE Dwayne Allen (ankle) out for the rest of the game.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) proved he is more than capable last season when Allen was sidelined, and he could be a good FantasyScore option if Allen is forced to miss any addition time.

Colts | Coby Fleener could return soon

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 17:24:07 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener (knee) will hopefully return to practice at some point next week, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on Fleener's status over the next week or so to see if he will be ready for the start of the regular season. Fleener should have a solid role in the passing game and could be a low-end No. 1 tight end or a No. 2 tight end in most leagues.

Colts | Coby Fleener wants to improve play

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 14:45:30 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener said he wants to be a more consistent player and is looking to limit his mistakes on the field. "Your flubs are aired in front of the whole world. Whether you're sitting at a desk all day or whether you're playing football, nobody wants to make the 'Not Top 10.' Unfortunately I've been there and I'm trying to limit that as much as possible."

Fantasy Tip: Fleener is coming off a solid 2014 season with 774 receiving yards and eight touchdowns but will have to share targets with several other options in the passing game. Fleener could be a low-end No. 1 tight end or a No. 2 tight end in most fantasy leagues.

Colts | Coby Fleener enters last year of deal

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 22:33:55 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener is entering the final season of his rookie deal, and he is scheduled to become a free agent in spring 2016. He has established himself as one of the most criticial components of the Indy passing offense.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener has emerged as a Top 10 fantasy option at his position, perhaps Top 5 if he takes another step forward in 2015. Playing with his college quarterback Andrew Luck has done wonders for him, and moving away from Indy would likely be a bad career move. Look for Fleener and the Colts to figure out a way to get a deal done for the long term.

Colts | Dwayne Allen sees more snaps

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 15:25:06 -0800

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen played 53 of the team's 68 offensive snaps in Week 15 against the Houston Texans, and TE Coby Fleener played in 40 of the snaps. It was necessary to have Allen on the field for much of the day in order to help block DE J.J. Watt. Allen also had a touchdown in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Allen ($5,500) clearly is back close to full health, which will push Fleener's FantasyScore value down significantly to end the season. Allen should be a pretty solid play this week in daily games, too, as the Dallas Cowboys have been vulnerable to tight ends in 2014.

Colts | Coby Fleener earning bigger role?

Mon, 17 Nov 2014 11:17:11 -0800

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener had a breakout game in the team's Week 11 loss to the New England Patriots, and he may be earning a bigger role in the offense, even if TE Dwayne Allen (ankle) is in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener had a season-high seven catches (seven targets) for 144 yards while the Patriots seondary was focusing on shutting down the Colts receivers. It helped that Allen was hobbled in this one, but Fleener could see more consistent targets down the stretch now.

Colts | Coby Fleener defends Trent Richardson trade

Fri, 31 Jan 2014 11:58:31 -0800

Indianapolis Colts TE Coby Fleener defended the trade that sent RB Trent Richardson to the team. "I still think it was a great trade for us," Fleener said. "Our front office has done an awesome job putting together teams from Day One. I think that acquisition is going to be huge for us and pay dividends in the future." Fleener dismissed the idea that Richardson's play was a dissapointment. "Let me stop you right there," he said. "I think part of it is you're coming into an offense that's probably one of the most complex in the NFL. And so for him to play a week after being there was impressive because it took me a year and a half to learn the offense. I think this camp will do him a lot of good, and then you guys can judge him after that."

Titans | George Wilson likely to start

Tue, 26 Nov 2013 10:41:07 -0800

Tennessee Titans SS George Wilson will likely start in place of the suspended FS Michael Griffin in Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts. Wilson is usually tasked with shadowing the opposing tight end, although that was not the strategy last time these two teams met. Wilson played just one snap against TE Coby Fleener, who caught eight passes and a game-high 107 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener could be a sleeper tight end option for this reason. Don't forget about him.

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 09:35:24 -0800

Indianapolis Colts WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (head) was being evaluated for a concussion after the team's Week 9 game, but head coach Chuck Pagano said Heyward-Bey was cleared.

Fantasy Tip: This is something to keep an eye on during the week. If he can't play in Week 10, Griff Whalen and Coby Fleener will become more important options in the passing game.

Colts | Coby Fleener expected to step up

Fri, 01 Nov 2013 20:16:21 -0700

One NFL personnel executive said Friday, Nov. 1, that he "would expect a heightened feature (role) of (TE Coby Fleener)" with WR Reggie Wayne (knee) out for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener is still only considered a Top 20 fantasy option at his position until he steps up and does a little more. The Colts will be facing the No. 1 defense of the Houston Texans in Week 9, so it will be a tall order for Fleener to step up his production Sunday.

Colts | Dwayne Allen to miss rest of season

Wed, 18 Sep 2013 09:12:36 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen (hip) will miss the rest of the season because he is scheduled to undergo hip surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Coby Fleener will become the Colts' starting tight end with the loss of Allen. Fleener has had a solid start to the season and should become more involved in the passing game. He should be considered a borderline starter most weeks that could be a flex option as well.

Colts | Dwayne Allen to miss Week 2

Sun, 15 Sep 2013 08:52:34 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen (hip) is inactive for the team's Week 2 game.

Colts | Dwayne Allen not expected to play

Fri, 13 Sep 2013 14:03:50 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen (hip) is listed as questionable for Week 2, but it's not looking good for his chances to play.

Fantasy Tip: Coby Fleener's value will shoot up if Allen doesn't play, as expected. The Miami Dolphins have a stout pass rush, so Fleener could be used as an extra blocker on occasion. Keep that in mind.

Indianapolis Colts TEs Dwayne Allen (foot) and Coby Fleener (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 6, and are listed as probable for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Allen likely will be the more valuable tight end entering Week 1. Allen should be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end or a flex option. Fleener likely will not be an option for the starting lineup this week.
