Astros | Evan Gattis back in cleanup spot

Thu, 05 May 2016 13:29:29 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis is batting cleanup Thursday, May 5, opposite Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis normally bats fifth when he's in the lineup, but with Colby Rasmus getting the night off, he gets bumped up into cleanup duty. While he's been a big disappointment thus far in 2016, Gattis has been fine when he stands in the box opposite a left-handed pitcher. In fact, he has more hits against lefties than he does righties, despite having registered nearly half as many at-bats versus southpaws. As a result, he could be a sneaky option for this evening.

Astros | Evan Gattis, Tyler White sitting

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:23:20 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis (rest) and 1B Tyler White (rest) are not starting Wednesday, May 4, against Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes. SS Marwin Gonzalez and OF Preston Tucker are in their place, with Gonzalez playing first base and batting seventh, while Tucker is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: White will be on the bench for the second time in three nights, though it's hard to argue that decision considering he's a putrid 2-for-35 over his last 10 ballgames. Gattis is also slumping, having not recorded a hit in his last 11 at-bats. Daily owners can do better than Gonzalez and Tucker from Wednesday's full 15-game slate.

Astros | Evan Gattis takes a seat

Tue, 03 May 2016 15:05:29 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 3. OF Preston Tucker is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth against Minnesota Twins SP Alex Meyer.

Fantasy Tip: Assuming the rest of the roster is healthy, Tucker and Gattis are basically platooning at DH for Houston. Both feature plenty of power, with Gattis having more of it. Tucker hit his third homer of the year last night but has a .200 average on the year. Most won't be looking to him in daily games, so he could make for a sleeper contrarian pick tonight.

Astros | Evan Gattis productive at plate

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 05:10:55 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI against the Oakland Athletics Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis has been on a bit of a hot streak recently with seven hits and six RBI over the last four games. Gattis could be a solid option in daily fantasy leagues and some mixed leagues while he is producing at the plate.

Astros | Preston Tucker, Tyler White sitting

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 16:20:53 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker and 1B Tyler White are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. OF Evan Gattis is serving as the designated hitter and is batting fifth, while INF Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and batting seventh against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is off to a slow start (.222, 8-for-36, no homers) after hernia surgery in the spring, and he's a boom-or-bust candidate for daily lineups. Gonzalez has moderate power, but his fantasy upside is limited Wednesday hitting down in the order in a pitcher's park.

Astros | Preston Tucker the DH Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:56:23 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker is serving as the designated hitter and is batting fifth against Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns Tuesday, April 26. OF Evan Gattis will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: All 15 of Tucker's career home runs have come against right-handed pitchers, so this matchup should catch your attention Tuesday. Consider Tucker a nice buy as a potential daily value pick.

Astros | Preston Tucker, Jason Castro out

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:44:52 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup Monday, April 25. OF Evan Gattis is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth, while C Erik Kratz is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is starting to see more of the starts as the DH over Tucker, which limits Tucker's value to cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Gattis is hitting only .212 in the early going and hasn't gone deep yet in 32 at-bats, so he's a risky play against the strong Walker Monday night. Kratz should be ignored everywhere.

Astros | Evan Gattis to start catching

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 14:16:19 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis will start catching games this season when the game itself is not on the line, according to manager A.J. Hinch.

Fantasy Tip: Hinch indicated Gattis would catch earlier this season, and the plan appears to be ntroducing Gattis to catching slowly and deliberately. No word yet on how this plan will impact Jason Castro owners, although Gattis definitely has the better bat and Castro would likely lose playing time. Be prepared to earn extra lineup flexibility with Gattis as well.

Astros | Evan Gattis out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 10:27:52 -0700

Houston Astros DH/OF Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz Saturday, April 23. OF Preston Tucker is batting fifth and serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Tucker is batting .242 with two home runs and three RBI through 33 at-bats. View him as an inexpensive flier option in the outfield for daily fantasy leagues.

Astros | Evan Gattis in lineup against a righty

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 14:53:44 -0700

Houston Astros DH Evan Gattis is batting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: This is only the third start for Gattis against a right-handed hurler, as Preston Tucker has also been utilized as the designated hitter of late. Gattis is off to a 4-for-21 start with just a single extra-base hit, but he has topped 20 home runs in each of his first three seasons of the league, so remain patient with the slugger. He could reward on a speculative flier in daily contests Friday, too.
