Astros | Evan Gattis recovering quickly

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 18:42:49 -0800

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis (hernia), who recently underwent hernia surgery, indicated Wednesday, Feb. 10, that he might resume baseball activities soon. "(I) will start doing very light baseball activities shortly as long as pain permits," Gattis said.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is apparently making good progress, but early indications are that he would miss spring training. He is always a solid fantasy selection for his power, but beware of his marginal batting average and high strikeout totals.

Astros | Evan Gattis files for arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 18:05:40 -0800

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking $3.85 million next season and the team has countered with a $3 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: In 153 regular-season games last season, Gattis hit .246 with 20 doubles, 11 triples, 27 home runs and 88 RBIs, along with 119 strikeouts in 566 at-bats. His fantasy value is somewhat diminished because he no longer qualifies as a catcher but he should be selected in the early rounds of AL-only leagues and the middle rounds of mixed leagues due to his power.

Astros | No Evan Gattis in NL park

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 16:27:15 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: The Astros are finishing up the regular season on the road in a National League park, so they'll lose the designated hitter. It's unknown how much Gattis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) will play as a result. Make sure he's starting before choosing him on FantasyScore over the weekend.

Angels | Jered Weaver falls to defeat

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 04:38:54 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver lasted 5 2-3 innings against the Houston Astros, giving up five runs and nine hits. Weaver also surrendered homers to C Evan Gattis and SS Carlos Correa in the 6-3 loss Monday, Sept. 21. Weaver struck out five and walked two.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) had been 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA at home against the Astros, so chalk this start up to facing Astros SP Dallas Keuchel and his unbeaten home record.

Astros | Evan Gattis resting Friday

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 16:41:05 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 11. 3B Luis Valbuena is serving as the designated hitter and is batting seventh against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is a true lotto ticket every time you take him on FantasyScore. He has 22 long balls on the year but is hitting only .210 (83-for-395) with 97 strikeouts. It's encouraging that 17 of his home runs have come off right-handers, though, if you're feeling bold tonight.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 19:49:55 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis swatted two more solo home runs Wednesday, Aug. 26, against the New York Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is a tremendous source of power in FantasyScore at a cut-rate price. He has three homers and six RBIs over the past two days, and five homers with nine RBIs over the past 10 games. He also has three straight multi-hit games, so ride the wave until he cools off a bit.

Astros | Evan Gattis gets a day off

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 16:25:06 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis is getting a routine day off Thursday, July 30, against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker. 1B Chris Carter will fill in as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) picks up his DH duties, although he's not a recommended play this evening. The lumbering slugger has struggled mightily as of late, having only five hits in the month of July in 44 at-bats -- good for a putrid .114 average. Shoemaker is allowing 1.6 homers per nine innings this year, but he's been much better of late. Carter is still more of a dice roll in daily formats on the chance he connects and goes deep.
