Yankees | Chase Whitley done for the year

Mon, 18 May 2015 11:49:04 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery on his elbow Tuesday, May 19, and it'll be performed by team Dr. Chris Ahmad.

Fantasy Tip: Drop Whitley in all single-year fantasy formats. Chris Capuano ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) returned from the DL and had a shaky start against the Kansas City Royals Sunday. He figures to remain in the rotation for the time being but really is only an option for owners in deep AL-only leagues. At FantasyScore, Capuano is merely a desperation sleeper play in the right matchup.

Yankees | Chase Whitley may need surgery

Fri, 15 May 2015 17:08:13 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley (elbow) has a torn tendon in his pitching elbow. Whitley is scheduled to meet with the team doctor Monday, May 18, and a decision on possible surgery will be made after the visit.

Fantasy Tip: Whitley ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) likely will miss a significant period of time if he needs to undergo surgery. Chris Capuano ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) will take his place in the starting rotation but is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Chase Whitley placed on disabled list

Fri, 15 May 2015 13:26:16 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Whitley ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is only worth stashing is cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. Chris Capuano ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is expected to replace Whitley in the rotation. Even at his low cap hit, Capuano should be viewed as a high-risk FantasyScore option, especially for his first start of the season.

Yankees | Chris Capuano to enter rotation

Thu, 14 May 2015 20:38:28 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chris Capuano will replace SP Chase Whitley (elbow) in the rotation, manager Joe Girardi said Thursday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Capuano ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is coming back from a quadriceps injury, and after posting a 4.35 ERA in 12 starts with the Yankees last year, there is no reason to take a chance on him at FantasyScore whenever he makes his first start of 2015.

Yankees | Chase Whitley to have MRI

Thu, 14 May 2015 18:53:42 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley (elbow) suffered an injury to his pitching elbow Thursday, May 14, and will undergo an MRI Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: If you own Whitley ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) in a seasonal league, it doesn't hurt to hold on to him until the results of the MRI come back. However, there is a real possibility that he has a significant elbow injury.

Yankees | Chase Whitley has apparent arm injury

Thu, 14 May 2015 17:47:03 -0700

Updating a previous story, New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley appeared to suffer an arm injury Thursday, May 14, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Whitley left the game after issuing back-to-back walks with two outs in the second inning.

Fantasy Tip: Whitley ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) lasted just one and two-third innings in his fourth start of the season. It was a rough showing, with Whitley needing 43 pitches in the abbreviated outing. There's reason to believe something went wrong early on in the game, and owners will need to continue checking back for an official explanation on the injury.

Yankees | Chase Whitley left game

Thu, 14 May 2015 17:17:55 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley (undisclosed) left the game Thursday, May 14, against the Tampa Bay Rays, due to an unspecified injury.

Fantasy Tip: Whitley ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) had issued two hits, two walks and three runs (two earned) in one and two-thirds innings pitched prior to his departure. With a relatively solid grasp on a spot in the Yankees' rotation, owners will need to check back for more on Whitley.

Yankees | Chase Whitley to stick around

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 18:19:26 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley started Tuesday, April 28, against the Tampa Bay Rays, and he is expected to remain in the rotation while SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) is sidelined.

Fantasy Tip: Whitley has struggled going deep into games at the big league level and the minors, so FantasyScore owners shouldn't expect him to suddenly start ripping off quality starts. Avoid him unless he somehow puts it together and starts pitching effectively.

Yankees | Chase Whitley has short outings

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 17:41:29 -0700

New York Yankees SP Chase Whitley averaged less than five innings pitched per start in 2014, and was averaging 5 2/3 innings per outing this season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Fantasy Tip: Whitley was filling in for the injured Masahiro Tanaka Tuesday, and he is likely to stick around for the next two weeks. However, FantasyScore players should be really careful with using Whitley who obviously hasn't been going very deep into games at either the big league level or the minors lately.

Yankees | Chase Whitley to start Tuesday

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 22:55:09 -0700

The New York Yankees will recall SP Chase Whitley from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Tuesday, April 28, against the Tampa Bay Rays, as they want to give SP Masahiro Tanaka a full five days of rest before his next outing.

Fantasy Tip: Whitley posted a 2-0 record with a 2.12 ERA in three starts for SWB, but he isn't a recommended fantasy option in any format since he'll likely be headed right back to Pennsylvania after his outing is over.
