Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun was in the starting lineup Monday, July 7, against the Toronto Blue Jays despite a left-handed pitcher on the mound. It was his first start against a lefty since May 31. Calhoun is a left-handed hitter who has been in a platoon situation with Collin Cowgill, but Calhoun's recent hot streak pushed him into the starting lineup. Entering Monday, Calhoun was hitting .481 over his past eight games. "I don't know if there's a player hotter in our league than Kole Calhoun right now," manager Mike Scioscia said.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun had been 1-for-19 in seven games since returning from his sprained right ankle, but he had two hits, two walks, three runs scored and saw 29 pitches in five plate appearances from the leadoff spot Thursday, May 29. Calhoun had been impatient and was swinging at bad pitches at the bottom of the order. "I've been swinging at a lot of their pitches," Calhoun said. "The name of the game is to pick your own pitch, to do damage with something in the middle of the plate. I hit a couple of good pitches, had some knocks, got on base, scored some runs. If I'm going to be in that one-spot, that's got to be my game."
Fantasy Tip: It'll be interesting to see if skipper Mike Scioscia leaves Calhoun in the leadoff spot moving forward. If Calhoun continues to perform like he did last night, he might move away from platoon duty in the outfield.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun will need to get going offensively against lefties in order to be penciled into the lineup every day. He's just 1-for-15 against left-handers since returning from the disabled list, and he said his timing is "getting there." Manager Mike Scioscia will continue to platoon with OFs Grant Green and Collin Cowgill until Calhoun returns to full health.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Collin Cowgill will go back to a bench role now that OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) is back from the disabled list and OF Josh Hamilton (thumb) is set to return next week. Cowgill hit .287 (25-for-87) with a .395 on-base percentage, three doubles, 16 runs and 13 walks in 25 games.
Fantasy Tip: Cowgill will strictly be an AL-only commodity once Hamilton returns next week.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) batted sixth Wednesday, May 21, but he will probably return to the leadoff spot when OF Josh Hamilton (thumb) returns from the 15-day disabled list, perhaps Monday, May 26.
Fantasy Tip: Calhoun might see fewer RBI chances at the top of the lineup, but he will see more runs scored and he should get plenty of at-bats. He remains a solid No. 4 or 5 fantasy OF in most AL-only leagues.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim activated OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) from the disabled list Wednesday, May 21, and optioned SP Hector Santiago to Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Put Calhoun back in your starting lineups everywhere. The demotion to the minors will allow Santiago to get back on a starting schedule.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim general manager Jerry Dipoto indicated that DH Raul Ibanez is likely to stick around on the roster because they like his veteran presence and expect him to turn things around after a slow start. OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) and 3B David Freese (finger) are expected to return from the disabled list this week, and next week, OF Josh Hamilton (thumb) and 3B Ian Stewart (hand) could return.
