Angels | Kole Calhoun out 4-6 weeks

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 16:29:00 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) is dealing with a serious ligament sprain and will be out four to six weeks, according to manager Mike Scioscia.

Fantasy Tip: It couldn't be a worse time for the Angels, who just lost Josh Hamilton (thumb) for a similar timetable. Collin Cowgill is the main beneficiary in right field, and he should now be owned in all AL leagues. Brennan Boesch could wind up in a platoon with Cowgill, too.

MLB | Kole Calhoun to DL, Brennan Boesch brought up

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 15:31:12 -0700

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 16, and recalled OF Brennan Boesch from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Boesch presents the Angels with outfield depth. Collin Cowgill should be expected to receive the majority of starts in right field, but Boesch can be used to spell him occasionally.

Angels | Kole Calhoun headed to DL

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 05:13:11 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) is headed to the 15-day disabled list with an ankle injury. The team could look to acquire OF Sam Fuld from the Oakland Athletics to replace him.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds as if he suffered a sprained ankle, which could keep him out two or three weeks. If it's of the high-ankle variety, he could be out longer. If he is dropped in your league, and you have the space, pick him up. OF Collin Cowgill and OF/DH Raul Ibanez could be options to fill in during his absence. Neither are worth fantasy consideration in mixed leagues. OF Brennan Boesch could also be an option, but he's not exactly tearing it up at Triple-A Salt Lake.

"We're gonna have guys step up," OF Mike Trout said. "Shuck will be playing. Cowgill. Raul Ibanez could play some left. Angels | Kole Calhoun will be patient

Thu, 13 Mar 2014 12:31:09 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun will be the team's leadoff hitter this year, and he has no problems with being patient. "I'm not scared to take a walk, to work a count, so I really don't see any advantage of going out hacking," Calhoun said. "I want to let those guys see how a guy's working early in a game and set the table for the guys behind me." In 20 of his 222 plate appearances last year, Calhoun swung at the first pitch.

Angels | Won't change Kole Calhoun's approach

Thu, 06 Mar 2014 14:45:35 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said he won't change OF Kole Calhoun's approach this spring. Calhoun has started every game this spring in the leadoff position. "He's really become a tough out at the plate, I think he runs well enough to run around the bases, and he's hit left-handed pitchers. Hopefully, he's going to be the guy that can help set the table for the middle of the order," Scioscia said.

Angels | Kole Calhoun to be full-time player

Fri, 22 Nov 2013 20:01:22 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun will be a full-time player in 2014 following the trade of OF Peter Bourjos to the St. Louis Cardinals. "He's a good baseball player. He does a lot of things well. He defends, he throws accurately, he's a good baserunner, he has patience, he gets on base, he has power. Last year he was able to show that those skills translate to the major league level," general manager Jerry Dipoto said Friday, Nov. 22.
