Indians | Yan Gomes will miss 6-8 weeks

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:22:12 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks with his injury.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes has been in the midst of a really tough season, so perhaps this is a blessing in disguise for his owners. However, Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez -- who will be splitting time with Gomes out -- are not the answer, as both swing very limited bats and each carries limited potential. It's too bad game-calling abilities don't factor into fantasy, as both would be worth a pickup in that case.

Indians | Yan Gomes won't have surgery

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 14:21:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) was diagnosed with an AC joint separation of his right shoulder, but will not require surgery, the organization announced Monday, July 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes is expected to miss four to eight weeks, so given his .165 batting average, he should be replaced in all fantasy settings. Look for Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez to split starts behind the dish, but neither are anything more than low-end options in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Indians | Yan Gomes placed on disabled list

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 13:44:17 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a separated right shoulder Monday, July 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes should be replaced in all fantasy formats. Expect Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez to see close to an even timeshare behind the plate going forward, but at this point, neither are anything more than low-end options in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Indians | Yan Gomes headed to DL

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 06:33:43 -0700

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder, knee) will go on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right shoulder. Gomes also jammed his left knee, which he said was fine. C Roberto Perez (thumb) will be recalled from his rehab assignment and be activated Monday, July 18. The team said Perez will be their catcher, and the thought of pursuing another one outside of the organization was downplayed. Gomes' season could be over.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes has had a rough year with a .165 average, and those waiting for that to turn around can drop him. Perez had a .228-7-21 line last season and doesn't have a lot of upside outside of two-catcher leagues. You have to wonder, while they downplayed the possibility, if All-Star Jonathan Lucroy comes into play now.

Indians | Yan Gomes shoulder update

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 14:13:23 -0700

Updating a previous item, Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) will meet with Dr. Mark Schickendantz on Monday, July 18, to get an opinion on his injured right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: As a previous tip suggested, Gomes might be out a few games, if not longer. Chris Gimenez could be the direct beneficiary for the time being, but don't be surprised if the Indians trade for a catcher if Gomes' injury is serious enough. Roberto Perez (thumb) could be a factor once he finishes injury rehab and returns to the lineup.

Indians | Yan Gomes injured

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 13:22:09 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) was removed from the game Sunday, July 17, after he suffered a shoulder injury while falling. Gomes hit first base with his left foot and fell on his right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: An update will likely come after the game, but smart money says Gomes will miss some time due to this injury. Gomes was not likely in your lineup anyway due to his average below .200. Chris Gimenez will likely see more playing time as a result of Gomes' injury. Carlos Santana will not see any time at catcher, as he is now strictly DH and first base.

Indians | Yan Gomes not in danger

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 05:08:26 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes is not in danger of losing his job despite a .163 batting average entering this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: The team likes Gomes' defense and it is still in the top five in the American League in runs scored. Translation: The Indians will put up with his bat, but you shouldn't, at least for the time being. This slump can't last forever unless it is a sign his hitting is completely shot.

Indians | Two Indians sit

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 14:30:02 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes and OF Rajai Davis are out of the lineup Saturday, July 16, with OF Tyler Naquin hitting eighth and C Chris Gimenez hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Naquin is pretty much a regular at this point as he has a .309-9-22 line. His lineup placement isn't great, but he's still a low-end grab against Tyler Duffey. Gimenez has no fantasy value.

Indians | Yan Gomes resting Thursday

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 12:42:43 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 7. C Chris Gimenez is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova.

Fantasy Tip: Gimenez shouldn't attract much attention at all in any fantasy format. He's batting only .190 with two home runs and four RBI and is a desperation source of salary cap relief in DFS.

Indians | Two Indians sitting out

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 06:54:19 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Rajai Davis and C Yan Gomes are out of the lineup Wednesday, July 6, with OF Tyler Naquin hitting eighth and C Chris Gimenez hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Naquin has a .313-7-19 line in 144 at-bats, which is superb. His upside is pretty minimal at the bottom of this lineup, but he's worth a low-end start against Michael Fulmer. Gimenez is hitting just .187 and isn't worth consideration in DFS.
