Indians | Yan Gomes will miss 6-8 weeks

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:22:12 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks with his injury.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes has been in the midst of a really tough season, so perhaps this is a blessing in disguise for his owners. However, Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez -- who will be splitting time with Gomes out -- are not the answer, as both swing very limited bats and each carries limited potential. It's too bad game-calling abilities don't factor into fantasy, as both would be worth a pickup in that case.

Indians | Yan Gomes won't have surgery

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 14:21:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) was diagnosed with an AC joint separation of his right shoulder, but will not require surgery, the organization announced Monday, July 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes is expected to miss four to eight weeks, so given his .165 batting average, he should be replaced in all fantasy settings. Look for Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez to split starts behind the dish, but neither are anything more than low-end options in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a separated right shoulder Monday, July 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes should be replaced in all fantasy formats. Expect Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez to see close to an even timeshare behind the plate going forward, but at this point, neither are anything more than low-end options in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues.
