Seattle Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane is the favorite to start opposite CB Richard Sherman in place of injured CB DeShawn Shead (knee), according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. Head coach Pete Carroll and defensive coordinator Kris Richards have given votes of confidence to Lane. CBs Shaquill Griffin and Neiko Thorpe are also in the mix at the position, with Griffin being Lane's main competition.

Seattle Seahawks CB Shaquill Griffin has proven he's capable of starting in place of injured CB DeShawn Shead (knee). Shead is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to miss a good portion of the regular season. CBs Jeremy Lane and Neiko Thorpe will also compete for playing time while Shead is out, primarily at the nickel corner position.

Seattle Seahawks CBs Richard Sherman, Jeremy Lane and DeShawn Shead likely will be moved around during games so the team can produce favorable matchups against opposing receivers. Sherman lined up against the No. 1 receiver more often last season and could do that again in 2016. Lane plays better against smaller, speedy receivers, while Shead is more effective against bigger, physical receivers.
