Twins | Byron Buxton progressing

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 14:45:56 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) said he plans on taking batting practice again in the next few days. Manager Paul Molitor said Buxton will head to Fort Myers, Fla., for a rehab assignment this weekend or early next week.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is still likely several weeks away from returning to action for the Twins, and they don't need to rush him back with Aaron Hicks heating up. Buxton was hitting only .189 (7-for-37) after being called up to the major leagues, but his raw abilities and upside are reasons for keeping him stashed in most leagues.

Twins | Byron Buxton takes BP

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 06:53:01 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) took batting practice Tuesday, July 28, and is expected to spend the rest of the week taking swings. He could join the team on the field for pre-game drills. If he has no setbacks, he could head to Fort Myers, Fla., to continue his rehab.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton will be brought along slowly, but he should be back by the time rosters expand Sept. 1. Hold onto him if you have the DL spot.

Twins | Byron Buxton will not be rushed

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 10:25:30 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) is working his way back from his thumb injury but will not be rushed back. Buxton has been taking part in resistance drills underwater and was scheduled to hit off a tee and soft toss this past weekend. He may take batting practice later in the week to see how his thumb responds. Buxton would then go to the team's spring training facility to take batting practice before starting a rehab assignment. The team is hoping Buxton will be able to return before the start of September.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Buxton ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is still several weeks away from returning from the team and will take his time in returning. Owners should pay more attention to Buxton when he starts his rehab assignment since that would be a signal that he would be close to returning.

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 16:25:47 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) could begin baseball activities by Sunday, July 26. Buxton will be reevaluated in the next few days, according to manager Paul Molitor Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hasn't played since June 24, but he was just starting to find his stride at the plate before landing on the DL. He should be added in all leagues of 12 or more teams.

Twins | Byron Buxton still limited

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 16:50:08 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) continues to be limited to running, throwing and squeezing a training ball with his left hand.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton won't be back until at least sometime in August, so stay patient. His upside, even though he hasn't delivered at the big league level yet, makes him worth stashing everywhere. In the meantime, Aaron Hicks ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has played considerably better after coming off the DL, and he deserves to be owned in deeper mixed leagues until Buxton comes back.

Twins | Byron Buxton out one more month

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 22:44:36 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) was on the field for batting practice before the game Tuesday, July 7, against the Baltimore Orioles, but he was just an observer. He is expected to be out at least one month.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($3,300; or 6.6% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in back-to-back games without any setbacks.

Twins | Byron Buxton could be out a while

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 14:42:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) could be out for four to six weeks, according to manager Paul Molitor.

Fantasy Tip: You'll need to hold onto Buxton in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, but he's worth dropping in shallow mixed formats after he hadn't made much of an impact in his first call-up. Shane Peterson ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is likely to be the everyday starting center fielder in the meantime until Aaron Hicks returns from his injury. Peterson is a low-end outfield play on FantasyScore.

Twins | Byron Buxton out a month

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 07:58:29 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) will miss at least a month with his thumb injury, according to manager Paul Molitor.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton has a bright future, but that may not be this season. He was hitting .189 but showed signs of coming around. A thumb injury could plague him the rest of the season. Stash him if you have the space, but we can see dumping him in extreme situations.

Twins | Byron Buxton to DL

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 07:32:29 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left thumb sprain Friday, June 26. SS/OF Danny Santana was recalled from Class AAA Rochester.

Fantasy Tip: Santana could platoon with Shane Robinson ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) in center, but neither are good options on FantasyScore right now. Stash Buxton on the DL universally.

Twins | Byron Buxton with day to forget

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 15:22:35 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton had four strikeouts in a start against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Wednesday, June 24. Buxton was hitting leadoff for just the second time in his young career. Sale entered the game having fanned at least 12 hitters in his last five starts, but he ended with 10 Wednesday. "I just need to be a little bit more aggressive to the fastball," Buxton said. "He was spotting it up pretty well early in the game, and the slider had a good bite to it. So I just need to stay on those pitches and drive them to right field."

Fantasy Tip: Despite being the major league's top prospect coming into the season, Buxton ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will have a learning curve in 2015. He's hitting .212 (7-for-33) in a small sample size since being recalled. Buxton could see leadoff at-bats against left-handed pitchers moving forward, but most of his time will be spent near the bottom of the order. His price is attractive, though, but you'll have to pick and choose your spots wisely to use him on FantasyScore.
