The Kansas City Royals aren't expecting SP Kyle Zimmer to make an impact at the major league level early this season. "The goal would be to have him peaking in the minor leagues in late May, June, going into July," assistant general manager J.J. Picollo said. "And then really ramping it up and taking the handcuffs off him, hopefully in a playoff run, and he pitches in September and hopefully October." Zimmer has an invite to spring training, but he may not stay long as a competitor for the fifth rotation spot. The Royals' plan is to groom him to become a full-time member of the starting rotation for 2015. Picollo said 150 innings is a goal for Zimmer this year. Zimmer's development "is going to be a slow thing" this year, and Picollo said he'll likely start in Class AA or Class AAA.
