Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman could rejoin rotation

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 17:16:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) could step into the starting rotation after he is finished with his minor league rehab assignment, according to manager John Gibbons. "The way it's going now, he might come up and start for us," he said.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman threw a simulated game Friday, Aug. 28, and is scheduled to make a rehab start for Class A Lansing Wednesday, Sept. 2. He has not pitched at all this year after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during spring training. Owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues will want to monitor Stroman's progress but should temper their expectations due to the severity of the injury he is recovering from.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman ready for the next step

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 12:22:55 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) said he "crushed it" during his 51-pitch sim game Friday, Aug. 28. He is expected to throw approximately 65 to 70 pitches for low-A Lansing Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman is determined to work his way back into the Toronto rotation, but fantasy owners should be cautious pinning their hopes to the youngster. There is a chance he makes a start or two in the final weeks of the season, but he may also pitch out of the bullpen. The Blue Jays will be cautious with the youngster, and it remains a situation to monitor.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman set for rehab stint

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 16:33:32 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) is tentatively scheduled to join low-A Lansing Wednesday, Sept. 2, and move up to Class AAA Buffalo Monday, Sept. 7, according to general manager Alex Anthopoulos.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman will first spin a simulated game Friday, Aug. 28, as he hopes to work his way back into the starting rotation. It may be a long shot, though, as the Blue Jays will be cautious with their prized young arm. It is a situation to monitor, but don't be surprised if Stroman pitches out of the bullpen.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman feeling good

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 09:54:19 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) said he felt "great" after throwing a simulated game Monday, Aug. 24. He will throw another one Friday, Aug. 28, and then head to Class AAA Buffalo for some rehab starts.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman could return in September to make a handful of starts, but it's not set in stone. Keep an eye on his progress and consider adding him in deeper leagues if it looks like he'll re-enter the rotation down the stretch. He'll be a risky commodity on FantasyScore.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman being stretched out

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 16:21:41 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) will be stretched out as a starter as he rehabs from a left knee injury. Stroman threw off a mound for the first time Tuesday, Aug. 11, and manager John Gibbons said Stroman looked great. He'll throw another bullpen session Friday, Aug. 14, and his pace of progress will determine when he'll throw a simulated game and go on a rehab assignment, which is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman could make it back at the tail end of this year and make several starts, but it seems unlikely, and the Blue Jays won't want to rush him back in the middle of a pennant chase. You can stash him in deeper leagues, but don't expect much in return to close out 2015.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman cleared to throw

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 18:15:09 -0700

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Stroman will be able to return, but if he begins a rehab assignment Aug. 21, it is possible he could appear in a game in late September for the big club, especially since they're in contention and he could help.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman throws off mound

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 13:34:52 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) threw off a mound Wednesday, Aug. 5, for the first time since suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during spring training. Stroman is tentatively scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday, Aug. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman was expected to miss the entire season, and there is a chance that proves to be the case. But the youngster is eager to rejoin his team, and he could make a few starts late in the season if all goes right. He is a desperation stash at this point, but he has nice upside, especially with that high-end offense supporting him. Continue to check back for updates.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman has successful surgery

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 16:10:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman's (knee) reconstructive surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament by Dr. James Andrews was a success, the team announced Thursday, March 19.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman holds no seasonal value for 2015, but he remains a viable stash in dynasty/keeper formats, depending on your league's settings. Aaron Sanchez appears to have an edge on joining the starting rotation and Daniel Norris has a shot, too. Both are late-round fliers with upside in mixed leagues. Their value increases if they're confirmed starters.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman has torn ACL

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 11:33:04 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the entire 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to cross Stroman's name of your fantasy baseball cheat sheets for drafts now. With the loss of Stroman, young prospect Aaron Sanchez could be a realistic option to start the year in the rotation now, with Daniel Norris being another option. Sanchez has the most upside, and he might even be worth a late-round pick in deeper mixed leagues if he wins a rotation spot.
