Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman baffles Rays again

Sun, 01 May 2016 13:20:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman allowed one run on three hits and a pair of walks while striking out a career-high nine over eight frames in a win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Two of Stroman's four victories during his undefeated start this season have come at the expense of the Rays, who he handled on Opening Day. The 25-year-old phenom has worked at least seven innings and yielded three or fewer runs in four of his six outings this season, so continue to trust him for fantasy purposes in his next scheduled start Friday at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman so-so in no-decision

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 20:14:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman allowed four earned runs, six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision Monday, April 25, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman is 7-0 in nine regular season start since returning from a long-term knee injury in September 2015. He remains a solid fantasy play in most formats and DFS play.

Blue Jays | Toronto could use six starters

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 17:03:52 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are entertaining the idea of temporarily using a six-man rotation, in order to limit the number of innings that SPs Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman will throw this season. SP Drew Hutchison, who is currently pitching for Class AAA Buffalo, is the most likely candidate to be used as a sixth starter, although RPs Gavin Floyd and Jesse Chavez (back) could also step into the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Toronto's starters lead the majors in innings pitched (95) and the team is in the midst of a stretch where they play 29 games in 30 days, hence the desire to add another starter. Hutchison is worthy of consideration for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues if he gets promoted. Manager John Gibbons views Floyd as a pitcher only capable of throwing one to three innings at this point and Chavez has been battling a sore back recently, so they appear less likely to be used in starting roles.

Blue Jays | Quality start for Marcus Stroman

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 21:35:48 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman allowed three earned runs, six hits and a walk over seven innings for a win against the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman improved to 3-0 despite a mediocre 4.13 ERA. That's because his team provides plenty of offensive support. That's the kind of thing fantasy owners love - wins, especially when a guy isn't bringing his best stuff.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman earns win Thursday

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 18:34:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman allowed two runs on three hits over eight innings in a victory over the New York Yankees Thursday, April 14, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: With the win, Stroman improved to 2-0 on the season. He will make his next start against the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, April 19, and he should be viewed as a decent starting option in all fantasy formats.

Rays | Corey Dickerson goes deep

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 16:35:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays DH Corey Dickerson went 1-for-4, slugging a ninth-inning solo home run off Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman in a loss on Sunday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson was expected to lose some of his fantasy luster following his offseason trade from the Colorado Rockies, so his owners have to be happy to see him show some power in the opener after struggling during the spring. Even if he fails to reach 20 homers in 2016, batting in the middle of the order of the Rays' order should give him plenty of RBI opportunities and allow him to be a high-end third outfielder in fantasy.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman silences Tampa Bay

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 16:08:16 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman made his first Opening Day start a memorable one, allowing two runs on six hits and striking five over eight-plus innings in a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman, who was limited to four September starts last season after making his way back from a knee injury, surrendered a ninth-inning solo shot to Corey Dickerson but little else. The 24-year-old was in late-season form in this one and is 7-0 with a 2.66 ERA - including the postseason - since suffering his last loss on Sept. 15, 2014. If healthy, Stroman seems like a good bet for at least 15 wins this season and worthy of being a second starting pitcher in fantasy.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman to start opener

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 08:16:04 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman will start the season opener against the Tampa Bay Rays April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman is being taken as an SP2, but let's not forget he has just 157 2/3 regular season innings under his belt. He's a risky option in that range, but he does have the potential to reward it.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman feels good

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 21:28:11 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman (knee) made his first Grapefruit League start against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, March 1 as he nears the anniversary date of his torn anterior cruciate ligament last spring. He allowed two runs and three hits with no walks and two strikeouts over two innings. "My body felt unreal, knee felt great," Stroman said.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman needs to knock off a little rust after being limited to just four starts last season, but he is a nice fantasy sleeper this season if he does not have any setbacks and pitches to his capabilities.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman to pitch March 1

Sat, 27 Feb 2016 20:30:44 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman is expected to pitch in the Grapefruit League opener Tuesday, March 1, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman was limited to four starts last season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, but he rebounds nicely to post a 4-0 record and 1.67 ERA in 27 innings with 18 strikeouts. He heads into 2016 as a guy with a ton of upside if he can stay healthy.
