Cubs | Addison Russell settling in with Cubs

Fri, 08 May 2015 12:26:23 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B/SS Addison Russell is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, which is the longest of any Chicago hitter this season. During the stretch, Russell has six runs, two home runs, six RBI and a .343/.378/.657 slash line.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($2,200, 4.4% of cap), just 21, is having quality at-bats, and while he is striking out 37.8% of the time, it is tough to ask for more at this stage of his career. He is worth a roster spot in the majority of fantasy leagues and projects to be a low-end starter at shortstop and second base going forward. FantasyScore players have a nice bargain on their hands given his recent surge, too.

Cubs | Addison Russell picking it up

Wed, 06 May 2015 12:49:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is batting .357 (10-for-28) with six extra-base hits and six RBI during his eight-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) would appeal more to FantasyScore users if he weren't hitting ninth for the Cubbies, but he shouldn't be ignored just because of that. The youngster has raised his average to .261 (12-for-46), and he has two home runs and seven RBI.

Cubs | Miguel Montero, Addison Russell hot

Tue, 05 May 2015 16:05:11 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is hitting .478 (11-for-23) with six RBI during a six-game hitting streak, and 2B Addison Russell is hitting .320 (8-for-25) with four extra-base hits and six RBI during his seven-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Montero ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and Russell ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) are both hot and worth running with at FantasyScore. However, Montero isn't in the starting lineup Tuesday.

Cubs | Addison Russell hits first homer

Fri, 01 May 2015 16:39:34 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell cracked his first career home run Friday, May 1, against the Milwaukee Brewers, and it was all of the offense in a 1-0 win. "It feels good and it made it even more special because I'm home at Wrigley. Fans jumping up and down and hearing the crowd roar like that is an awesome feeling," Russell said.

Fantasy Tip: Russell is still hitting just .194 overall, but at just $2,200 (or 4.4% of cap) he is a good value in FantasyScore. It won't take much to exceed DFS salary expectations.

Cubs | Addison Russell out of the lineup

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 13:10:37 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, April 29. SS Jonathan Herrera is starting at second base and batting ninth Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Russell ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) from your lineups Wednesday. FantasyScore players should view Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) as nothing more than a low-priced flier with emerging-star Gerrit Cole on the hill for the Pirates. Russell is likely just receiving a routine day off which will provide him two consecutive rest days, as the Cubs don't play Thursday, April 30. While Russell has struck out 14 times in 29 plate appearances, he is beginning to show life at the dish. He has three runs, three doubles and five RBI over his last five games.

Cubs | Addison Russell delivers big hit

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 17:55:13 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell went 1-for-4 with a three-run double in a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Russell's first week in the majors has been a rough one, and he is hitting .136 with 12 strikeouts in five games. The big hit could start a hot streak for the highly-touted prospect, but until he shows some more consistency at the plate, he can be avoided at FantasyScore when he is added to the player pool.

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 22:27:34 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell was hitless in five at-bats with three strikeouts in his major league debut Tuesday, April 21, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fantasy Tip: There will certainly be better days for Russell. FantasyScore owners simply need to be patient, as he will hit much sooner than later.

Cubs | Addison Russell batting ninth

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 13:09:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell will bat ninth in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 21, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fantasy Tip: Russell is too new a callup to have any official FantasyScore value yet, but it's clear they want to remove any pressure from him by batting Russell last in the lineup. Like with Kris Bryant, there will be some pressure on him to start so wait until he has had one or two games under his belt.

Cubs | Addison Russell to debut Tuesday

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 09:11:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is expected to make his major league debut while starting at second base against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, April 21. Russell was hitting .318 with Triple-A Iowa before his call-up.

Fantasy Tip: Russell came up as a shortstop, but he'll be even more valuable when he gains second base eligibility. He can do a little bit of everything, and he should be owned in all leagues immediately. Russel will be a cheap commodity at FantasyScore in the early going, and it'll be hard to argue better value for his upside, especially in an improved Cubs lineup.

Cubs | Addison Russell headed for north side

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 22:09:02 -0700

The Chicago Cubs plan to recall SS Addison Russell from Triple-A Iowa, sources said Monday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: Russell has been playing second base in the minors, and it might be a spot for him in the short term with Tommy La Stella on the 15-day disabled list and Starlin Castro entrenched at short. Itís an exciting time for fantasy owners in keeper leagues, as the Cubs first recalled Kris Bryant and now Russell. For FantasyScore purposes, let Russell get his feet wet before plugging him into your lineup.
