Cubs | Addison Russell resting

Fri, 20 May 2016 15:08:43 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. 2B/OF Javier Baez will receive the start at shortstop and is hitting eighth against San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy.

Fantasy Tip: The Cubs continue to find Baez ways to mix into the lineup at various positions. His .254/.293/.394 line doesn't look all that great, but the young slugger has an impressive power/speed combination that plays in most seasonal leagues. His daily upside is limited tonight hitting low in the order, but he could still return decent value against Peavy.

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Over the last 10 days, Russell has raised his batting average from .210 to .264, making him worthy of strong consideration for daily fantasy lineups. His 25 RBI rank him second among all MLB shortstops in that category.

Cubs | Addison Russell out for Game 2

Wed, 11 May 2016 15:16:13 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, May 11. SS Javier Baez will start at shortstop, while 3B Kris Bryant will start at third base. OF Jorge Soler will start in left field and is batting fifth against Padres SP Drew Pomeranz.

Fantasy Tip: Soler has only two hits in his 15 at-bats this season, so owners should be able to find a better player for their lineups. Baez is hitting .333 with one home run and four RBI this month and should be a decent option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Bryant is a must-start option in all leagues.

Cubs | Jorge Soler, Addison Russell back in lineup

Sat, 07 May 2016 10:46:41 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler and SS Addison Russell are back in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Saturday, May 7. In addition, C Tim Federowicz will start behind the plate and bat eighth in place of C David Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Soler (3-for-19) and Federowicz (2-for-12) have been ice-cold at the plate over the past two weeks and should be avoided in daily fantasy formats. Russell is not a recommended option this afternoon because he is hitless in 14 at-bats versus left-handed pitching this year.

Cubs | Addison Russell sits

Fri, 06 May 2016 09:16:40 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is out of the lineup Friday, May 6, with SS Javier Baez hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Baez has a tough matchup against Max Scherzer, but he is off to a fast start. His .341-1-4 start makes him a decent DFS option at the right price.

Cubs | Two Cubs sitting out

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 08:11:36 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell and OF Jorge Soler are out of the lineup Wednesday, April 20. OF Tommy La Stella is hitting sixth, and SS Javier Baez is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is 4-for-9 (.444) on the young season, and albeit a small sample size, he's 2-for-3 lifetime against Carlos Martinez. He's worth the low-end start today, while La Stella doesn't pack the punch for a spot start.

Cubs | Addison Russell resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:28:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood Sunday, April 17. INF Javier Baez will play shortstop and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Baez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in his return from the disabled list Saturday, April 17. Despite not having a regular position, the 23-year-old should be owned in most fantasy formats due to his positional versatility and upside stemming from his combination of power and speed.

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell had a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday, April 11, against the Cincinnati Reds and he also had a walk.

Fantasy Tip: Russell needed a big hit, as he is still hitting just .160 with five RBIs on the season. This could be the game which jump-starts his season after a brutal start.

Cubs | Addison Russell slugs sixth spring homer

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 14:58:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell went 1-for-2, including a solo homer, in an exhibition game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Sunday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Russell batted ninth Sunday in an order that could resemble a typical lineup for the Cubs this season, although he won't be hitting out of the nine-hole very long if he continues to show this kind of power. The 22-year-old is a popular breakout candidate this season after wrapping up a solid rookie season in 2015 with a .242 batting average, 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 475 at-bats.

Cubs | Addison Russell could move up in order

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 11:23:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell could move up the batting order this year because of his hitting development this spring. He could move up to seventh or eighth, according to manager Joe Maddon. "(Russell) is a different animal this year," Maddon said.

Fantasy Tip: Russell is a serious breakout candidate after slugging 13 home runs in 475 at-bats for the Cubbies in his rookie season. At a thin position, the potential for 25-plus home runs from a shortstop is very intriguing as you get into the middle rounds.
