Mets | Two Mets catchers to test other positions

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 10:40:03 -0800

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud and C Kevin Plawecki will play other positions to be determined in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud's power makes him a midrange catcher option in fantasy.

Mets | NYM could use catchers at first base

Sat, 12 Dec 2015 11:21:33 -0800

The New York Mets have recently discussed using Cs Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki at first base on days when they are not being used behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: With the retirement of 1B/OF Michael Cuddyer, the Mets do not currently have a backup first baseman on their roster besides INF Eric Campbell. There's a chance that d'Arnaud and Plawecki will platoon at catcher next season, which could result in both players falling to the middle rounds in NL-only drafts and the later rounds of drafts for deep mixed leagues.

Mets | NY not trying to trade catchers

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 17:16:22 -0800

New York Mets Cs Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki are not expected to be available on the trade market this offseason, according to assistant general manager John Ricco. "Catching, we've said many times, is a position we can't have enough depth. We have two guys we think are frontline catchers. I think there's ways for us, especially in the short-term, to make use of both of them. The short answer is I don't think we will be talking about either one of them because they're both going to help us win," Ricco said. The Mets also aren't seriously considering moving either catcher to another position.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud will likely see the majority of starts behind the dish for the Mets moving forward, but Plawecki is certainly a step up from a traditional backup catcher. d'Arnaud has more upside offensively and should be targeted in the late middle rounds. Plawecki makes for a great second catcher in leagues that start two backstops.

Mets | NYM may platoon catchers in 2016

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 14:05:50 -0800

New York Mets Cs Kevin Plawecki and Travis d'Arnaud may platoon next season.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki and d'Arnaud did a good job last year, so the team's solution will likely involve splitting the catchers up depending on matchups. This may depress their draft status to the mid to low rounds in mixed drafts.

Mets | Mets catchers to stay behind the plate

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:41:39 -0800

New York Mets Cs Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki will not be auditioned at another position any time soon, according to manager Terry Collins. General manager Sandy Alderson said, "We'll see how that sorts out over the course of the offseason. But I don't think we're anxious to run either one of them out of that catching position."

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki posted a .576 OPS with just three home runs and 21 RBI over 258 plate appearances last year, so he is nothing more than a desperation catcher option in NL-only, two-catcher and cavernous mixed leagues. d'Arnaud, on the other hand, hit 12 home runs with 41 RBI over 67 games and 268 plate appearances. d'Arnaud's only knock has been his inability to stay on the field, but he is in the heart of his offensive prime and has the upside for a huge return on draft day this spring.

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3, with C Kevin Plawecki hitting seventh.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud sitting

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 07:24:53 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud is out of the lineup Thursday, Oct. 1, with C Kevin Plawecki hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) isn't enough of an offensive weapon to use on FantasyScore against Jerad Eickhoff.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud not starting Tuesday

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 13:22:41 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 22, against the Atlanta Braves. C Kevin Plawecki is in the lineup and he will hit eighth against Braves SP Matt Wisler.

Fantasy Tip: It appears to be a normal off night for d'Arnaud ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), who is hitting .053 in the last week. Plawecki ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has two hits in two at-bats against Wisler. That's a small sample size, but it's worth the risk if you want to save some salary cap room.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud not starting

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 08:11:09 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Saturday, Sept. 19. C Kevin Plawecki will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has started several days in a row, so he is receiving a day off. Plawecki ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is hitting only .230 this season and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Mets | No Travis d'Arnaud vs. Braves

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 08:46:57 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 13. C Kevin Plawecki is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Ryan Weber Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has a .338/.422/.648 slash line over his past 20 games, and he stands to have a strong finish to the season. Just make sure to avoid him Sunday. While it is a strong matchup, Plawecki ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) doesn't have a lot going for him with a .590 OPS this season, and he is an ill-advised FantasyScore play Sunday.
