Rangers | Three Rangers sent down

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 09:44:01 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo, OF Nomar Mazara and 2B Jurickson Profar were all optioned to minor league camp Monday, March 21.

Fantasy Tip: All three could have significant roles on the team by season's end. Mazara is a notable prospect that could easily make an impact in left field with Josh Hamilton already hurt and if Ian Desmond doesn't pan out in left. Gallo's power is elite, and he made strides this spring with his plate patience. Profar's shoulder concerns have put him off the fantasy radar the last two years, but he's one to watch if he falls into playing time, too.

Rangers | Joey Gallo turning the corner?

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 16:06:30 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo hit a towering home run in spring action Tuesday, March 15, and he has three home runs in his last four games over 10 at-bats. The homer also came against a left-handed pitcher. He's reached base in 10 of his last 17 plate appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo's spring bears watching. He's always had immense power, but his inability to make consistent contact was what has been holding him back. An avenue for everyday playing time in Texas remains iffy, but if Gallo continues to make gains with his plate approach, he's certainly worth selecting in the later rounds of deep mixed leagues for his upside.

Rangers | Joey Gallo showing better eye

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 15:44:09 -0800

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo worked a walk in the game Tuesday, March 8, and his grasp of the strike zone seems to be improving. He has a team-leading four walks in 14 spring plate appearances.

Fantasy Tip: That's significant because Gallo has some pretty significant pop with the stick. His lack of contact and walks were setting his on-base percentage and average back. Remain patient, but Gallo could become valuable in mixed leagues if he finds an avenue to consistent at-bats in Texas.

Rangers | Joey Gallo to concentrate on 3B

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 19:28:27 -0800

The Texas Rangers want 3B Joey Gallo to concentrate primarily at third base during the spring, even though he can play in the outfield as well as first base.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo is an up-and-comer who showed what he can bring to the table in spurts last season. He has some nice power and will be a fantasy staple before too long.

Rangers | Several options behind Josh Hamilton

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 22:35:42 -0800

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) is seeking a second opinion on his sore left knee. He had surgery last season to clean out the cartilage in his left knee last season and experienced soreness in the winter. If he isn't ready the team has multiple options including OFs Lewis Brinson, Joey Gallo, James Jones, Nomar Mazara, Ryan Rua and Justin Ruggiano.

Fantasy Tip: Itís uncertain how much time, if any, Hamilton will be forced to miss. The remaining outfielders are a hodgepodge and none are worth using outside of a deeper AL-only fantasy league. The team is also looking at a bevy of free-agent outfielders. Stay tuned.

Rangers | Texas prospects not ready

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 16:08:21 -0800

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo and OFs Nomar Mazara and Lewis Brinson aren't expected to contribute until later this season.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo has intrigue late in deep mixed leagues for his power upside at the hot corner. Mazara is perhaps the most intriguing of the three and has the ability to hit for power and average at the next level. Mazara should be high up on your radar in AL-only and keeper leagues, but you'll need to remain patient.

Rangers | Texas has other options for LF

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:30:53 -0800

With Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) already feeling pain in his left knee this spring, the Rangers have alternatives in OFs Justin Ruggiano, Ryan Rua, Joey Gallo and James Jones. Another option is 1B Ike Davis, but he's played just two innings in the outfield in his career.

Fantasy Tip: As most everyone knows, Hamilton is a massive injury risk. Because of that, he's nothing more than a late-round stab in deep mixed leagues. The Rangers might have to get creative with all of their alternatives. Of that group, Gallo is the most attractive because of his monster power capabilities and third base eligibility.

Rangers | Will Venable draws into lineup

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 11:05:43 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Will Venable is starting in left field and is hitting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt Thursday, Sept. 24. 3B Joey Gallo will start on the bench against a righty.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has some daily upside because of his speed and a matchup against a pitcher coming off injury, but the fact remains he's a weaker outfield option on FantasyScore when he's hitting that low in the batting order.

Rangers | Mike Napoli starting vs. righty

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:29:12 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Mike Napoli is starting in left field and batting sixth against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Thursday, Sept. 17. 3B Joey Gallo is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Napoli ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and the Rangers are rolling, so him sticking in the lineup isn't surprising. He has been sitting against right-handed pitchers frequently, but his .939 OPS since joining Texas is intriguing for seasonal and FantasyScore players. View him as a potential value play in daily contests Thursday. Gallo ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is just 2-for-18 since rejoining the Rangers and doesn't project to see a lot of playing time with Texas chasing a playoff berth.

Rangers | Joey Gallo back in LF

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 13:48:14 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo is back in left field and is hitting eighth against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Tuesday, Sept. 15. 1B Mike Napoli will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) continues to struggle; he's 2-for-16 (.125) with a home run and 10 strikeouts since coming up when rosters expanded. He has world-class power, but his swing-and-miss ways make him an all-or-nothing fantasy commodity.
