Rangers | TEX won't part with top prospects

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 10:43:55 -0700

The Texas Rangers have intensified trade talks with the Philadelphia Phillies regarding SP Cole Hamels, according to a major league source. However, they are unlikely to part with top prospects such as 3B Joey Gallo and OF Nomar Mazara in any potential deal and want the Phillies to pick up a chunk of his contract.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) is appealing to the Rangers because he is under contract through the 2018 season, with a vesting option for 2019. He will start against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, July 25, but FantasyScore owners should avoid using him because he is 0-2 with a 19.89 ERA over his last two starts.

Rangers | Joey Gallo sent to minors

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 12:42:48 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo was optioned to Class AAA Round Rock on Tuesday, June 30, to make room for OF Josh Hamilton (hamstring).

Fantasy Tip: This isn't as big a surprise as you might think, as Gallo ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) cooled off after a hot start. Gallo had five homers and a .218 average. If you can stash Gallo on your bench in keeper leagues do it, as he will be back. Otherwise, drop him from FantasyScore consideration.

Rangers | Leonys Martin on the bench

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 08:31:55 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Matt Boyd Saturday, June 27. 3B Joey Gallo will start in center field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return in the next game or two. Gallo ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has four hits in his last eight games and is batting only .125 against left-handed pitchers, so owners on FantasyScore may want to look at other options.

Rangers | Joey Gallo sitting vs. lefty

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 13:49:15 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP Mark Buehrle Friday, June 26. OF Ryan Rua is starting in left field and hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Rua ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is in a favorable lineup spot for daily gamers, but he should still be avoided. He's hitting only .189 (7-for-37) on the year with one home run and an RBI.

Rangers | Joey Gallo sticking around

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 16:26:02 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo was not sent back to the minors when the team activated 3B Adrian Beltre (thumb) off the disabled list Tuesday, June 23, as was initially the plan when the team called Gallo up in early June. Gallo is in left field and hitting second Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics. "He's a younger player who needs at-bats and we're not going to have a young player in that situation up here unless he is getting regular at-bats," general manager Jon Daniels said. "Right now, he's getting regular at-bats and contributing."

Fantasy Tip: Gallo ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) won't do you any favors in the average department, but his five home runs in 63 at-bats have shown the kind of damage he can do with the long ball. As soon as Josh Hamilton returns from the DL, Gallo is likely to be sent back to the minors then. Until then, he's intriguing for his price in daily games because of his ability to clear fences.

Rangers | Joey Gallo in LF

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 16:10:18 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo is starting in left field and hitting second against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez Tuesday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: With Adrian Beltre (thumb) off the DL today, Gallo ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) will need to find most of his starts in left field now, but it looks like he'll stay in the big leagues for now. Gallo is hitting just .222 (14-for-63), but he does have five home runs and 10 RBI. Gallo has a tough matchup against the ground-ball heavy Chavez tonight. Chavez has allowed only four home runs in 11 starts in 2015.

Rangers | Joey Gallo out of the lineup

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 08:50:22 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Saturday, June 20. 2B Adam Rosales will start at third base and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) probably is sitting out since the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Rosales ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has only three hits in his last eight games and has not recorded an RBI since May 24. Owners on FantasyScore probably should look for other options to use.

Rangers | Joey Gallo's time likely ticking

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 09:40:18 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B/OF Joey Gallo is likely to be sent back down once 3B Adrian Beltre (thumb) and OF Josh Hamilton (hamstring) return.

Fantasy Tip: Jon Heyman notes that thought process could change, but Gallo is 3-for-22 the last week with all three hits leaving the yard. He has struck out 23 times in 54 at-bats. While he has light-tower power, he may need more seasoning. Gallo ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is probably too expensive for daily play on FantasyScore right now.

Rangers | Joey Gallo back to third in order

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 16:07:13 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo will start in left field and bat third in the order Wednesday, June 17, against the Los Angeles Dodgers and LHP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is a left-handed hitter so it's a very difficult matchup for the rookie. Gallo is hitting just .105 against lefties, and he'll now face the league's best for the first time. Gallo's price is too high for him to be considered as a flier, so he should be avoided by FantasyScore owners.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus hitting second

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 15:25:50 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus is starting Tuesday, June 16, and he will hit second in the order against the Los Angeles Dodgers and LHP Brett Anderson. 3B Joey Gallo has been dropped down to sixth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) hasn't hit second in the order since May 30, against the Boston Red Sox. The move is likely due solely to the matchup, as Andrus is hitting .308 against southpaws, with two home runs and five doubles. Andrus will be a relatively safe play on FantasyScore with some upside.
