Phillies | Nick Williams cuts down on K's

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 07:46:51 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Nick Williams has struck out nine times in his last 67 plate appearances, and he has 90 strikeouts in 395 plate appearances on the year at Class AAA Lehigh Valley. Over the last 70 games, he has hit .289 with 26 doubles and eight homers. Williams has played a lot of left field, where he's expected to play when he's called up.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is expected to be called up over the next few weeks and should be a regular in the lineup. He's worth stashing in NL-only leagues, but he doesn't do one thing great in terms of fantasy.

Phillies | Two Phillies to soon patrol outfield

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 08:34:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Aaron Altherr (wrist) and OF Nick Williams are expected to be called up in the next few weeks. Altherr has a couple of weeks left on a rehab assignment, and Williams has hit safely in 26 of 28 games at Class AAA Lehigh Valley. OF Peter Bourjos and OF Cody Asche have the potential to lose their spots.

Fantasy Tip: Altherr had a .232-5-22 line with six steals in 142 at-bats last season, but he's coming off of wrist surgery. Williams has a .289-8-44 line at Triple-A. Neither are projected to make huge impacts, but both are NL-only depth options if you're looking ahead for potential callups.

Phillies | Nick Williams getting time in LF

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:43:45 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Nick Williams, who is one of the club's top prospects, has seen all three outfield spots this season at Class AAA Lehigh Valley, but has recently been spending the most time in left field. He has started there in 12 of the last 17 ballgames, and he's been swinging a hot bat, too, recording at least one hit in 26 of his last 28 contests.

Fantasy Tip: With Cody Asche and Peter Bourjos currently serving as two of Philadelphia's regular outfielders, it wouldn't be a surprise to see one or both of them get traded, if not squeezed out of playing time as the Phillies look towards the future. Whenever a spot frees up, Williams will probably be the next man up, though Aaron Altherr is set to return soon from injury as well.

Phillies | Three Phillies prospects sent down

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 06:05:35 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SS J.P. Crawford, OF Nick Williams and OF Roman Quinn were reassigned to minor league camp Monday, March 14.

Fantasy Tip: All three could emerge in 2016 for the rebuilding Phils. They're NL-only options for now, with Crawford having the most potential in 2016.

Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.

Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.
