Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin needed 96 pitches to cover four innings against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, July 5. He allowed seven hits and three walks but limited Boston to just two runs.
Fantasy Tip: Efficiency and Griffin don't belong in the same sentence right now. In three starts since being activated from the DL, Griffin has worked just 13 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on 15 hits. Those aren't terrible numbers, but if he can't work deeper in games he'll continue to pile up the no-decisions (five straight). Griffin has modest appeal in deeper mixed leagues.

Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin put together a pretty good start Thursday, June 30, versus the New York Yankees. The right-hander went five innings, issuing only one run on two hits and two walks, including a solo homer. He also struck out eight.
Fantasy Tip: This was Griffin's second start back since coming off the disabled list, and he was actually a bit better than he was in his return outing, so that's certainly a positive takeaway from this assignment. Griffin has posted some solid numbers this year, and as long as he continues to pitch for one of the best teams in baseball, he might be able to sustain consistent value in a lot of fantasy leagues.

Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin (shoulder) is set to be activated from the 15-day DL and start against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, June 25.
Fantasy Tip: Griffin pitched well prior to hitting the disabled list with shoulder stiffness, but he couldn't have picked a tougher opponent to return against. Griffin has clear AL-only and some deeper mixed value, but it might be prudent to keep him in reserve for his first start back.

Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin (shoulder) is expected to make at least two more rehab starts in the minors before returning from the disabled list, according to manager Jon Daniels.
Fantasy Tip: Griffin pitched well enough (2.94 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 7.5 K/9) to be stashed in AL-only leagues and some deep mixed formats in his six starts. However, a very fortunate BABIP says regression is ahead, so temper your expectations a bit if Griffin returns and lands a rotation spot again. He could in in place of Yu Darvish (shoulder).

Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin (shoulder) gave up five hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out three in three innings of his latest minor league rehab start Tuesday, June 14. He threw 39 of his 63 pitches for strikes.
Fantasy Tip: Griffin had pitched very well for Texas before his injury with a 2.94 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings over six starts. However, he was a bit fortunate with a very low batting average on balls in play (.237), which means he probably won't be that good when he returns. He's worth a look in AL-only leagues, though, when he's back. He could wind up taking a rotation spot at least until Yu Darvish (shoulder) is back from the DL.

Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin (shoulder) allowed a run on four hits and struck out three in 2 1/3 innings in his first rehab start at Class AA Frisco Thursday, June 9.
Fantasy Tip: If Yu Darvish (shoulder) avoids the disabled list, Derek Holland could be on notice. Holland has struggled for much of the season, and Griffin was 3-0 with a 2.94 ERA and 28 K's in 33 2/3 innings. Griffin will probably need at least two more rehab starts before he returns. Keep an eye on this situation as he's a low-end mixed leaguer if he returns to the rotation.
