Browns | Josh Gordon vows to change

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 13:27:24 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon said he plans to "disassociate" himself from those that could be contributing to keeping him out of the NFL. Gordon has been suspended a year for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy, and he recently applied for reinstatement. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will make a decision within 60 days of Gordon's application.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard not to envision Cleveland's new management not being on board with Gordon shaping up to play for this football team. He's still only 25 and clearly has the tools to be an elite receiver if he can get his head straight. There's obviously risk involved, but if Gordon is reinstated for next season, he's likely to be a early-round draft pick.

Browns | Cleveland not rushing Manziel decision

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 10:24:07 -0800

The Cleveland Browns are in "no panic" to make a quick decision on the future of QB Johnny Manziel, according to new vice president of football operations Sashi Brown. The Browns will also assess the future of suspended WR Josh Gordon once they know if he'll be reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell.

Fantasy Tip: The overriding belief is that Manziel has no future in Cleveland, and new head coach Hue Jackson isn't believed to be high on him. Time will tell, but Manziel has the physical traits to be successful in the NFL. He could find more success with another organization, and the Dallas Cowboys are rumored to be a possible destination if he becomes available.

Browns | Josh Gordon applies for reinstatement

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 05:10:27 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has applied for reinstatement to the league, confirmed a source with knowledge of the process who requested anonymity because of the league's confidentiality rules. Gordon's fate will be known within 60 days of the receipt of his application, per rules of the reinstatement process. He is under the Browns' control for 2016. If reinstated, Gordon can become a restricted free-agent in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: It's somewhat hard to believe, but he just turns 25 in April. Gordon could be a WR1 in fantasy if reinstated, and it sounds like they're trying to shore up the locker room around him.

Browns | Josh Gordon doing well

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 19:28:39 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is eligible to apply for reinstatement Feb. 3, a year after his indefinite drug ban was announced by the National Football League. According to sources Gordon is doing "outstanding."

Fantasy Tip: All indications are the Browns will stick with the talented, yet troubled, wide receiver. If he can return and keep his head on straight he can be one of the biggest playmakers in the league. Fantasy owners will certainly want to tread lightly next summer based on his history, however, and not draft him terribly high in seasonal leagues.

Browns | Cleveland in contact with Josh Gordon

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 14:34:36 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has been in contact with an official from the team this offseason, according to a source. Gordon is serving a one-year suspension for multiple violations of the NFL's drug and alcohol policy but is allowed to be in contact with a front office member.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon will not play in the 2015 season because of the suspension, so owners should avoid him in all leagues. Gordon could be reinstated next season and may be a fantasy option at that point.

Browns | Josh Gordon's teammates didn't know rules

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 18:15:43 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon's latest suspension came as a surprise to his teammates, as they didn't know he couldn't drink alcohol, according to CB Joe Haden, Tuesday, April 21. "Everybody's 21. We're going to Vegas on a vacation. We know he can't do certain things, but we had no idea he couldn't have a drink. If I knew he couldn't have a drink, everybody would have tried to it wouldn't have been that. But Josh Gordon is a grown man and sometimes you have to know what decisions you make, but nobody was aware that he couldn't drink," Haden said. Gordon is suspended for a minimum of one full season.

Browns | NFLPA files grievance for Josh Gordon

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 07:34:06 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon's one-game suspension late last season prompted the NFLPA to file a non-injury grievance on his behalf Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is facing a one-year ban for testing positive for alcohol, and his fantasy status is dormant for the 2015 season. He still has dynasty league value due to his tremendous talent, but he's facing an uphill battle to return to the league.

Eagles | Philly rejected trade for Josh Gordon

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 15:27:42 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was offered to the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of the 2013 season, but the Eagles did not want to trade QB Nick Foles for Gordon, according to a source. The Eagles were concerned about Gordon's two-game suspension, while the Browns wanted Foles to be their starting quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon struggled in the five games he played in this past season after he served his suspension and is in danger of missing the entire 2015 season since he tested positive for alcohol. Owners should monitor Gordon's status during the offseason but should not count on him as a top fantasy receiver. Foles likely will have to compete for the starting job during training camp and should not be seen as a No. 1 fantasy quarterback even if he wins the job.

Browns | Jimmy Haslam supports Josh Gordon

Thu, 12 Feb 2015 11:35:09 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon received support from team owner Jimmy Haslam, in an interview with, Haslam was critical of Gordon's off-field behavior and hopes Gordon can get proper help during his suspension. When asked if the Browns would cut Gordon, Haslam said they have a year to decide, and the decision would be made "at the proper time."

Fantasy Tip: Provided Gordon is eligible to play in 2016, his physical talent alone keeps in the conversation. Way too much can happen between now and then to properly assess his fantasy value. He is the classic example of a risk-reward draft pick when that time comes.
