Orioles | Tyler Wilson, Mike Wright keep spots

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 19:09:30 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SPs Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright apparently will keep their spots in the rotation once SP Yovani Gallardo (shoulder) returns Saturday, June 18, as SP Ubaldo Jimenez was sent to the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson and Wright aren't great fantasy options for mixed leaguers, but they're decent AL-only plays and DFS options when the matchup is favorable.

Orioles | Rotation decision coming for O's

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 20:01:07 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles are set to welcome SP Yovani Gallardo (shoulder) back from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, June 18. The question is who comes out of the rotation. SPs Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright have minor-league options remaining. Meanwhile, SP Ubaldo Jimenez was horrible in his outing Sunday, June 12, recording just one out for the shortest outing of his career.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez isn't worth starting in most fantasy leagues right now, even if he is able to hang onto his job once Gallardo returns. You'll have a few days to see what the team elects to do with Wilson or Wright, so you won't be stuck with a zero heading into the next scoring period starting next Monday. If either of those pitchers are assigned to the minors, you can cut bait at that point.

Orioles | Darren O'Day placed on disabled list

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 14:05:51 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Darren O'Day (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain Friday, June 3. In a corresponding move, RP Mike Wright was recalled from Class AAA Norfolk.

Fantasy Tip: O'Day's been a little less effective this season with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP, but he does have two wins, two saves and 25 strikeouts through 20 innings. He remains a viable arm in deep mixed leagues because of his ability to chip in across all counting stats and typically stabilize your ratios. It likely isn't worth stashing him unless you have the luxury of open DL slots, though. At this point, Wright is a fantasy afterthought.

Orioles | Mike Wright sent to minors

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 15:17:57 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright was optioned to Class AAA Norfolk Thursday, June 2, and RP Brian Duensing was recalled in a corresponding move. Wright allowed six runs on seven hits (four home runs) in just 2 2/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, June 1. On the year, he's 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA in nine starts. Manager Buck Showalter said the O's still consider Wright a starter.

Fantasy Tip: Wright could rejoin the Baltimore rotation eventually if he shows improvement in the minors. However, his career 6.0 K/9 shows his fantasy upside is extremely limited, and he isn't best-suited to pitch in the AL East in a pitcher-friendly park. Wright is only attractive to those desperate in AL-only leagues if he resurfaces.

Orioles | Mike Wright serves up batting practice

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 21:38:19 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright served up a career-high four home runs Wednesday, June 1, against the Boston Red Sox. He ended up allowing six earned runs and seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts in just 2 2/3 innings in the no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: Wright has been failed to last longer than 5 1/3 innings in four of his past five assignments, and his ERA mushroomed to 5.88 as a result of the uneven outing. He is only worth a look in the very deepest of AL-only fantasy formats.

Orioles | Mike Wright used in relief

Wed, 04 May 2016 21:43:08 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright threw 13 pitches in relief in the ninth inning Wednesday, May 4, against the New York Yankees. However, he is still expected to start Saturday, May 7, against the Oakland Athletics. Wright's inning of relief amounts to a glorified side session.

Fantasy Tip: Wright is a solid play in some AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play when the matchup is favorable.

MLB | Baltimore vs. Texas rained out

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:33:31 -0700

The game between Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright and Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland has been rained out Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: The game has been rescheduled for June 20. Remember to remove all Baltimore and Texas players from your daily fantasy lineups.

Orioles | Pedro Alvarez resting on Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 13:56:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles DH Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly on Saturday, April 9. C Matt Wieters will move over to designated hitter and bat sixth while C Caleb Joseph will serve as SP Mike Wright's battery-mate behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez signed with the Orioles in mid-March and predictably struggled during the spring, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise the ex-Pittsburgh Pirate is 0-for-12 to begin his Baltimore career. Owners should know the drill with Alvarez by now; occasional outbursts of power accompanied by a low batting average. As long as your team can take the hit in average, he can be a boon to the HR and RBI categories.

Rays | Desmond Jennings not in lineup Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 13:15:05 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright on Saturday, April 9. DH/OF Corey Dickerson will take Jennings' place in the field while 1B Logan Morrison will fill Dickerson's role as the designated hitter and bat second.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings went hitless Friday for the first time this season but has yet to record an extra-base hit or RBI. The once-highly touted prospect remains an injury risk and, as a result, shouldn't be counted on too heavily in fantasy despite his five-tool skill set. With that said, Jennings has been batting out of the five-hole thus far and should be expected to start producing soon.

Orioles | Kevin Gausman won't be rushed back

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 15:08:08 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman (shoulder) won't be rushed back from right shoulder tendinitis, according to manager Buck Showalter, and the Orioles hope he can pitch on April 19. SPs Mike Wright and Tyler Wilson are believed to be the best bets for the fourth and fifth rotation spots, but SP Vance Worley is still in competition this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Gausman had shoulder issues last year, too, so the O's are being cautious with their rising star pitcher. His overall numbers last season don't really properly reflect his K/9 skills as a starter, and he could break out if fully healthy. Grab him as a late-round flier and stash him in deep mixed leagues.
